      Thank you Carolyn! And dear lord, was it hot. The return of the marine layer felt like an epic event in my life - I'm not cut out for that kind of heat!!!!

    I might cry if I can get a Britomart sampler kit. It is the most beautiful pattern I have ever seen!

      Thank you - and you can absolutely get a kit! Once it is released I will keep restocking as long as there is demand, everyone who wants a kit will be able to get one.

    Hi Katie. Loved the hem stitch finish. Yes please for the mother of pearl winders. Could you please give us an overview on how you create a beaded flower petal? Always enjoy your videos so much.

      Thank you! The beading is peyote stitch, but I'm self taught - mostly through experimenting, so I don't really have resources to recommend on the topic. There have to be tutorials on UA-cam though, peyote stitch is a very basic technique.

    The Britomart sampler looks fabulous. The shimmer of the silk threads, especially on the satin stitch areas is wonderful. Your casket panel looks great. And those beaded flowers, and cute pea pod, are beautiful.

      Thank you! The filament silk threads really do make the sampler, it's very special - a perfect example of how materials can truly elevate a design.

    The hemstitch on the Britomart sampler is the perfect finish. Gorgeous! I bought Thomas, unable to resist his mischievous sparkle prim. Thanks, Katie!

    ❤beautiful work! I received the “badger and unicorn” chart. Thank you. But the bonus stickers were amazing. I got a mini printer for Christmas last year (on my list). But am ashamed to say I haven’t used it yet. But seeing yours inspired me!
    I think I have a new name for your channel. Ornamentations, aspirations and inspirations!😘

    The hem stitch on Britomart is just perfect. The mitre corners are a great touch. Just got Thomas the Turkey. The recipe will be our different pie this year. We always make an apple, pumpkin, pecan and a surprise pie and it can’t be repeated so this will be perfect! Your beading is exquisite, my niece has me making bracelets and we are going to try earrings next. She watches Jill Wiseman and she is very good with tutorials. I missed the Mother of Pearls with Susan but I did get a Scottish Thistle from Sassy Jacks Stitchery. I think they are still available but she may have closed the shop right now due to the flooding in surrounding areas. She was fortunate but has no power. Thank you for sharing everything!

      Enjoy - I hope your family loves the pie, it has been a staple of our family Thanksgivings going all the way back to my great great grandmother. Our menu has evolved a lot over the years, but the one thing that never changes is the pie!!!

    Katie- another wonderful floss tube. I am absolutely mesmerized by the floral, dimensional beading that you are creating. I have purchased a book on French beading but it does not look as finely detailed as your beading pieces. Do you have recommendations on books that teach this craft? You continue to inspire us all!! Pamela

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Місяць тому

      Thank you! French beading usually refers to wire stringing and shaping, so that's a different kind of technique - this is beadweaving and it's called peyote stitch. I'm self taught and never really found a good book on the subject - you'll have to explore. However, on detail - some of what you're seeing there is the size of the beads. These are very small antique beads, and consequently you can get much more detailed shaping than with what's available today. Which doesn't mean it's not worth exploring, but something to keep in mind!

    Your sampler is amazing, congratulations. I am keen to join you in the project when you teach it. I have done a lot of hemstitching. Like you, I don’t like the drawn thread channels to show in the corners. There is an additional method for managing corner drawn threads in hemstitching. The linen threads are only drawn out as far as the corner channel and trimmed to about 10 cm. The tail is then tucked into the hem as the hem stitching is done. It’s quicker and very secure and avoids the appearance of the reweaving. There are instructions for this method in Inspirations issue 93 within a white work project by Deborah Love. Hope that helps. Kate

      Thank you! I more often do glued finishes than hemstitched ones myself, so it's been very interesting looking at all the variations on the process!

    The end of September was nice down here in SoCal but the heat this past week has been an unwelcome return to summer. It hit 100°F here a few days ago. Ugh.
    Wonderful job finishing the Britomart sampler!
    I love the colors on Jack's House. Katie adding greens? Who could have possibly predicted that? 🤣
    The beaded pea pod is so cute!
    I really like the blues on the flowers you're doing with the cupped petals.
    Casket progress! Yay! I agree that the eye should be swapped out.
    Those yellow-green beads are ridiculously small. What needle do you use for those? Even with 15/0 beads I sometimes struggle to get my usual beading needles through the smaller ones.
    That orange tulip! 😍
    Mouse in a House is cute! It's fun to see what your mom makes.

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you! There's a size 16 beading needle that's very tiny, but most beading suppliers don't carry them because they're so specialized. And you have to use super fine thread as well - that's as important as the needle for actually getting it through the bead since it folds in the eye and you've essentially doubled the width.

    Katie, if we want to start learning about the kind of beading you are doing with the bead basket can you suggest some places to start. A book, you tubes, teachers? Thanks

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Місяць тому

      Unfortunately I'm self taught and don't have resources to recommend, but the technique is called peyote stitch and I'm sure there are many tutorials here on UA-cam - enjoy!

    I just purchased Thomas and was wondering about a tutorial in the sequins as well! I can’t wait to do the Britomart sampler!! I am dying to do flag thief but I’m Canadian. Can you put your incredible thinking cap on for your neighbours to put in a 🇨🇦?

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Місяць тому

      Yes, you can find it under the tutorials playlist. And as to the Canadian flag - you've got a red and a white, so you just need to get out the graph paper, mark out the same area as charted, divide into vertical thirds, and then see what you can do for a maple leaf in the middle - backstitch, perhaps?

    Beautiful Britomart finish! Can you recommend any resources for learning how to do the dimensional bead work? I would love to make some small pieces.

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery  Місяць тому

      Thank you! But unfortunately no - the technique is called peyote stitch and I'm sure there are tons of tutorials on UA-cam, but I didn't really learn it from anything (book, tutorial, class, whatever), just by messing around and figuring out how I wanted things to look. Experimentation is a fun way to learn but means I don't have a handy list of resources to recommend!
