Ugh, I tried using cake lace paste in a few different silicone molds that came out horribly. I am an artist and love doing anything creative. I am also a perfectionist. That can be quite problematic when things don’t have the end result I was hoping for. Oh Alex, you gave me a great idea! My wedding anniversary is April 16! I am going to use the embroidery from my wedding dress, which is threads of the palest silk -white, purple, yellow and green. Since quarantine has changed everything, we won’t be able to have our friends and family to celebrate with. We went to St. Lucia and eloped there in 2019. We were supposed to have a party at our house over this past summer. My husband loves to cook and I love to bake. So we will be having our own celebration!
Hi, it's a wonderful video tutorial you posted! I am just curious about a few things. When I go to the video of the royal icing recipe you have linked the recipe calls for uncooked egg whites. You mention in this video that you allowed it to dry for over 24 hours. Was that refrigerated or room temperature? Also is that still safe to eat or not or just purely for decoration? thank you!
Is there a way how to use this method for a round cake? I need to pipe a design but I don’t trust myself to pipe it straight on the cake and this seems like an amazing idea!
I can tell you from experience from making this after this exact recipe that the pieces are very very fragile. And then if you peel them without breaking and you set them aside for a day they may for some unknown reason crack apart anyway I suppose from extended drying. However, I have an idea for your problem although it was months ago. First you will need to measure your cake's circumference after shaving them and extrapolate the thickness of the icing or plan to go up to the next size pans circumference and then using that next size up pan (preferably as tall or as close to the height as you want to make your cake if you can find a pan deep enough) and messure some wax paper around the exact circumference and cut it out. Then cut it in exactly 4 pieces. Then draw your design on each piece and tape them on the pan I would suggest one at a time and find a way to stabilize the pan to have the surface you taped the paper on to be up right as in parallel to the ground so you can work on it as if it was laying on a table but to have the curved surface. Or method #2 would be too get some thicker but maleable poster board and curve it and tape it to the exact circumference/curvature of 1/4 of a next size up pan to the table then tape the wax paper on 4 of those to work on. Either way you need the exact curved surface of your cake to be able to go on flush against your cake when applying them. But again Warning! These pieces are extremely fragile and hard to work with. You may just want to practice on your piping and pipe straight on the cake.
I want to do royal icing but everything I read says it's only good for 2 days at room temperature, and 4 in fridge, does anyone know if this is right or not ❤
Good day miss I just would like to say thank you for answering my questions about fondant and piping. It costs me about 30 UA-cam videos just from a simple answer. # CAN FONDANT BE USED AS PIPING? = Yes add a few drops of water till you get the desired thickness, or so,And walla you can pipe with fondant as if was cream in your bag. (pardon my way of saying things pls, an Afrikaanse person Engels in not as good as yours)
¡Excelentes pasteles...! Felicidades. Su trabajo es impecable, me quedé maravillada de ver lo hermosos que son. Gracias por enseñar las técnicas para crear tan hermosas flores. Muchas gracias. Paty Silva de Guadalajara, Mex.
I think the fact you mismeasured actually adds something, it gives it dimensionality - this would be a great effect over a contrasting colour cake as well.
So beautiful, I will love to try it for the first time I have not done royal icing before and I will be looking up to watch a video were you will post on how to make royal icing. Thanks
Great video. Thanks. Yes just want to confirm that when the panels are placed on the cake you put the flat bottom side of the total icing (nearest the wax paper) on the outside?
Hello. I really love your creations. I'm learning a lot. Thank you so much for sharing your skills.. Can i ask if i can use royal icing decors for whipped cream covered cake?
Thank you! I would not recommend adding royal icing to whipped cream as it will melt the royal icing. It works best on buttercream (italian meringue recipe on my channel) or fondant
Love your work. I’m so Happy I found your channel, I’m a beginner baking, baking is my happy place.. presently taking icing technique classes to start my own small cake business.. thank you for these videos and also Making it so details for person like Me😉👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾I wanna see lots more videos from you..
sometimes the best results are made from mistakes, the extra height adds a beauty to it...i love this design, i love piping especially when hand done. i have been wanting to do this for ages and i cant wait to try this out. the gaps add a shadow which gives an elegant look to the end result. so simple yet beautiful. thank you for another lovely video :) have a lovely day xx
Thank you so much for sharing your awesome talent. Do you place the panels with the wrong side facing outside. Also I would like to do royal icing on a cake covered with black fondant. I love to do cherry blossoms with leaves. Do you think the icing could get black. Please help me with the steps in doing this. Thank you so much.
Hi, yes it is the wrong side (bottom side when piping that faces outwards. I think you can add it on and the icing shouldn't be dyed black, just don't leave it in the fridge for too long otherwise it may begin to bleed from the humidity
Do make a detailed video on corneli lace on buttercream and fondant base Do give us the differences Also let us know what is suitable for lace piping directly on cake
Just wondering if you could make it for a round cake if I use the cake pan that the cake was cooked in lay the temple around it and trace it a bit at a time I may give it a go
You can do 1/4 of the circle at a time. Cut out wax paper to cover the circumference of the cake. Cut that in 4, pipe on the patterns, and let them dry on a circular mold like a cake dummy.
I tried this: it took forever to dry and the paper underneath warped as it dried so it looked super awkward when I tried to assemble. Help? I placed my template and paper directly on a flat sheet pan so my surface was flat… 😩
Oh no! Did you use wax paper? It will not work with parchment paper. You should also tape the paper down on the flat sheet pan. As for drying- it could be humid in the room you were working in? Or maybe your royal icing wasn't quite as stiff as mine? That's the only thing I can think of.
@@FinespunCakes Thank you for your reply! This was months back; right after you posted so I can’t remember but I’ll definitely make sure it’s wax paper moving forward! I used my royal recipe which normally dries really quick. (I guess I figured that any stiff royal would work?) but I’ll try a few different options next time. I just put in a heat pump in my space, which has a dehumidifier function so hopefully that will fix that one part! 🤪 Question: I really want to try this in black on a cake. Would you recommend coloring your royal black (could you get it stiff enough with that much food color??) or air brushing after?? I usually do all my royal decorations in pastels or whites but a client wants a super dramatic cake!! 🤣 Thanks!!

Beautiful! May I ask...is that a fondant covered cake or buttercream? Can you pipe royal icing onto buttercream? I’ve heard people say yes, and others say it slips right off
This is fondant. Yes you can pipe onto bc, I've never had problems with it. As long as the buttercream isn't moist (like from a humid fridge) it will be fine. I use IMBC and make sure it's very chilled.
I'm do glad I came across your video.. beautiful work.. Just wanted to find out if I could do this for a round cake and if so , how do I go about it? Thank you
Thank you! I would get a faux cake, measure the circumference of it and divide by 4. Make 4 panels of wax paper that you can pipe on. Then tape one piece onto the side of the faux cake, pipe, let it dry, then you can attach them all. Hope that makes sense!
I actually really like the mismeasured panels :) adds a lot more interest! :) gorgeous Do you have a favorite Software to Design your cakes or do you sketch free Hand?

I do really need to know if this is safe to eat. I'm making this for a wedding cake this weekend and just want to be cautious and let people know if it's just for decoration. thanks.
@@FinespunCakes Thanks. I made them and used them for a cake already. However, I peeled them in advance so I can see if I made enough extra or if too many would break so I'd have time to make more before I'd need them. But even though they peeled off nicely a couple days later they broke anyway without being touched as they lasted out on a flat surface. I don't understand why. But I was able to use them anyway, I didn't have much choice. The presentation, therefore, is not what I hoped for but I think it's alright. I still need to pipe more icing to decorate around and hide edges, so hopefully that will fix things.
@@laurarojas9758 I'm not sure why they broke, that's never happened to me before. Could be the environment- if it's too humid. Or if the outer border wasn't quite thick enough to support them?
@@FinespunCakes they broke without being touched. Just as they lay flat. I prepeeled them and left them flat undisturbed on the parchment paper for a day. When i went to use them i noticed most were broken and i know they weren't moved or anything. Not too sure what happened either.
