DON’T READ BIG BOOKS FOR PACES. You do not need to remember details of the individual conditions; that has been already tested in the theory exams.
Use these books only as a guide.
    1. Medical masterclass by RCP: This book is an underrated gem. Conversation illustrations for communication skill stations.
2.An aid to the MRCP PACES by Ryder: This book gives complete list of clinical cases that you can expect in the exam.
    3. Paces for the MRCP by Tim Hall: Classic, very detailed … read only if you have spare time .
4.Cases for PACES by Stephen Hoole : Smallest book of PACES, could be a good resource for a smart candidate.
    5. Pocketbook for MRCP PACES by Rupa Bessant: Strikes the right balance; covers all topics and the frequently asked questions.
    6. MRCP PACES manual by Phillip J Smith: This book has a very structured approach to each and every station.
    7. Clinical medicine by the MRCP PACES by Gautam Mehta : I have never read it but seems to be a popular book among PACES candidates.

      Hi Priyanka
The RCP recommends at least two years of clinical experience in medicine before PACES which might be difficult to achieve in preclinical branches. You have to work extra hard going into medicine and the superspeciality wards for good practice. It is achievable . I would try to make a video on it soon:)

Quick question, Generally speaking is it better to pick UK as a center or an international center (if one has a choice).I understand that having the understanding of the UK (nhs) methodology would be needed in both but are there any pros cons that come to your mind if one doesnt have (and cant get) NHS experience before taking paces.

Excellent advise. As I understand , you have very recently passed your PACES , with flying colours I must say. I've also completed MD Medicine in Mumbai ,India and looking for a chance to take the PACES . Unfortunately, the last 2 times I applied for India , I didn't get a slot . I wanted to ask - Did you work only in India and then take PACES in the UK , or did you have some UK experience ? How different is taking PACES in the UK from India ?
I assume that the cases and certian fine details may vary between the countries
If you did take PACES in the UK never having worked in their system before then please do let me know . It'll be a huge moral booster and I will do the same keeping in mind all your tips . Thank you

Many thanks for watching. Even I struggled to get a PACES seat in India and UK , so don't worry. Keep trying and you will reach your destination.
I worked in the UK for a few months before PACES and my NHS experience helped me a lot. These are my first hand experiences that I share in my channel so that candidates like me who are international graduates understand the fine aspects of the PACES exam.
Keep watching my videos and I promise you will get to know little secrets that will help you even if you have no NHS experience.

    • @AceurMRCP
      @AceurMRCP  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Karan
It is not at all true that the examiners are unfair. However, the way a patient is approached in NHS is very different from what we do in India. Here the doctor says hello, smiles at every step of examination, is very very gentle with patient examination, says sorry and thank you at every step.. as overseas doctors we often lack those skills.. So the British examiner often feels that the overseas doctor is not doing what is expected of him. If a candidate does it the right way no one can fail them...So yes it is tough.. as PACES is an exam designed for UK graduates.. but I assure you anyone can do it if they play by the rules of the game:)
