    Simplest scenario:
    [1] Get a pair of 1/4" terminated mono cables (1/4" at both ends)
    [2] Plug one end of each cable into L & R lineouts on back of keyboard/digital piano (I have a Korg) and plug the other end of each cable directly into Zoom H4n
    [3] Press buttons 1&2 on fascia of H4n
    Press Rec button to standby (flashing red light) and set audio input levels on H4n with side control button (about -12dB)
    [4] Press flashing standby button to record. Voila!!!

    Great intro on recording. Please keep adding. Wondered how to do that easily. Would love to see the 'edit out the mistake' way of doing things and what you need to do that.

    I have a Yamaha P125 and the aux outs are quarter inches (R & L/L+R). Would these, connected to the Zoom inputs, render good quality? The Yamaha P125 does not have the Red/White outputs. Thank you so much. Your tutorial here is excellent, BTW!

    Is it essential to record piano in stereo? Can I just record in mono? Would that come with any disadvantages? I have RME sound interface with separate instrument inputs. But i hesitate buying one or two instrument cables.
    upd. have found your video on this topic. watching :)

    You can also connect directly to your computer through USB (as an audio interface) instead of using memory card.

      Yes, but the quality will not be able to match the sound quality of the H4n.

    In another video, you explained how acoustic pianos are recorded in stereo by placing a separate mic on either side of the piano. Now, with this digi-recording device, you say it records in stereo, because it has two mics, but, given the placement of the mics in such close proximity, wouldn't the sound recorded basically be in 'mono' (even if there are technically two channels for the device?
    Also, I take it from this video that you can record (with this device) both the piano (through the line outs/ins, respectively -- from the piano to the recorder), _and_ your voice through the mics, at the same time? If I understand this correctly, then it brings up another question, do I take it that the sound is coming out of the piano as you're recording, or would the plugs being put into the line outs of the piano silence the sound? And if you _are_ still hearing the piano, would not the vocal mics pick up the sound of the piano as well?

    Kawai it it's infinite wisdom did not add a lineout on my Ca49 + $2k DP. So, I have to come out thru my headphone jack to my Zoom H1. I hope it works....

    It's too complicated for me with the PC. Can I also record it like this: 6.3mm L / R out puts in the piano and 3.5mm split cable in the zoom and the other 3.5mm in my cell phone

      Quality of the Recording.. That's basically the difference. Instead of using your computer's built-in "sound card" as mentioned in the other video, you're using an external one which has a greater quality.. Hence, the added cost.

    [solved] When I plug the headphone directly to the keyboard it sounds great, but when I plug it with the Zoom in the middle like you showed, it sounds noticeable worse, and the recording sounds bad too. What am I doing wrong?
    Edit: It was the stereo to mono mix that was making the piano sound so bad. Using two cables now and it's great!

      Conseguiu resolver, amigo?

    [Performance Only] Thanks for sharing your expertise. What if you want to just sing with your electric piano not for a recording. Is there a way to set up something like a Roland Cube so your voice has some amplification that will be able to punch out over the top of the piano sound. And alternatively also be able to use headphones to hear both vocals and piano sounds.

    You are amazing! But I'm just wondering if I could just make used the cord both male 1/4 to 1/4 jack direcly from my Kawai ES100 to Zoom H4n? Could you help me sir? Thank you.

      What exactly are you asking?

    • @riayang7392
      @riayang7392 4 роки тому

      I think he/she means connect the headphone jack from the Kawai Es100 to H4N only. I am also curious about that since recording Kawai es100 is tricky.
      I am kinda confuse either I should connect the headphone jack of ES 100 OR the midi in/out to H4N XLR in order to record the piano sound.

    This is extremely helpful, Thank you PIanoManChuck! Question: I'm used to using a boom mic, when playing piano and singing, just like you have it set up here. If I want to use the built in condensor mics, on the zoomh4n, to record vocals while playing, can I put it on a boom, so the microphones are over the keys while playing, or, what kind of setup would you suggest? You had mentioned a tripod in the video, but can't think where I would put the tripod so that the microphone was positioned in front of me while playing. Thanks again!!!! Apppreciate your knowledge and wisdom!!

    Hi, do you have any tips for recording electronic pianos to sound warm ? I use Sonar X3 as DAW and several plugins, but my recordings of solo piano are thin and looks plastic, looks lile mono sound. I´d like I could make it more like an acoustic piano, very warm, more wood, natual. Any ideas or plugins, compressors, exciters, any tips ?

    If I record using the minijack from phones into the H4n it sounds okay. Is the result using the XLR-cables much better?

    can I use a Focusrite Saffire 6 usb instead of the Zoom H4n ? is it the same effect ?

    • @Oleg__
      @Oleg__ 9 років тому +3

      I think you can, and approximately the same effect. But the big difference is with Zoom H4n you don't need computer, you don't need special software for audio recording etc. Furthermore Zoom H4n gives you very good mobility. For example. You are going to visit NAMM Show, which will be opened just after few days (Jan 22, 2015). And you want to try various keyboards, guitars etc. there. And not only to try, but also record. Because you want to come back home, and listen all your performances at quiet and cozy environment. Or maybe you want to share with your exclusive demos with other users on your UA-cam channel, like PianoManChuck.
      So, now you can imaging, how easy it will be with Zoom H4n and couple of wires. And how you imagine to make it with your own computer, soundcard, wires, setups, every time boot OS. Nobody will do that. So Zoom H4n gives excellent mobility, instant readiness, reliability and ease of use.

    • @FANNIX-
      @FANNIX- 9 років тому +1

      Thank you very much for the long response! Is there anything like the H4n that does the same recording quality but only with instruments? So without the microphones? Because I don't need them and if there is something like that out there I would spend unnecassary money.
