You missed one benefit of synthetic insulation: when you tear or melt the fabric, the insulation stays put - and one disadvantage: if you dry synthetics on high heat for a long period of time, the crimp in the individual fibers which provides the bulk, and, therefore, loft, relaxes, reducing the overall warmth of the garment. For me, it's always been down for extreme cold and synthetics for "a bit of a chill". I prefer fleece for summer use, because you can choose whether to use it with or without a wind shell, giving yourself a very wide comfort range.
Oh, and Tim, I just want to say your quilts kept me gravy in a 0° hang here in PA last week. I was soaked, cold, and warmed up and slept peacefully in our cold PA woods.
Could you at some point show the stuffed size and weight difference between a 20-30 degree down quilt versus a synthetic version? Thanks for these videos and creating such gear!
I'm a big fan of climashield, down, and enlightened equipment. Now, I have multiple quilts from EE and Hammock Gear that are down. If I want synthetic I'll make it myself. My climashield home made quilts are gorgeous and warm. But my EE down pieces are works of art..
Tim, props to you and your team for the wonderful products you make. There is one disadvantage of synthetics you didn’t touch upon, namely, micro plastics. Synthetics shed fine, microscopic fibers that do not break down in the environment. This all gets dispersed during that easy wash process that you laud as an advantage. Micro plastics are now found in all manner or wildlife and even in humans. It is perhaps just one more example of our indifference to the damage we do to the earth and others species. Am I wrong to call this out?
i'm ready to pull the trigger on an X-wide revelation with apex insulation but you don't offer it. I don't need down for Texas but i'm a big fella and do need the XW. when will you offer this?
Down also lasts for decades, synthetic only lasts for years because the short fibers break down with wear and compression. Always store all sleeping bags loose!
Go ahead and talk to Dan. However, the weight and compressibility advantages of down really show themselves in quilts as so much more insulation is needed compared to the smaller apparel items. If your quilt is a 40* or warmer you will see a real difference in weight and pack size between down and synthetic.
'None of the down side' Nice double entendre. Really well articulated although I am already shifting to synthetic and after listening to you i have a more informed idea/opinion. Thanks Keidgey
I like that it is cruelty free and animal free.
I'm allergic to down. Thanks for making a synthetic alternative!

I refuse to use down or wool, so I'm glad you offer synthetic.

We can definitely do that, I'll share the prompt with our marketing team and see what we can get out there for you! Happy Trails!
I will be doing that exact test soon 👍🏻

I'd love to test two together. I come from the synthetic-heavy military, where all our crap is wet constantly.

Love your stuff. Have two EE quilts... because reasons.
Minus zero bags in synthetic are huge and heavy minus down bags are a fraction of the size and weight so it don't take a genius 👍
I wish you'd offer a 3.5 ounce Apex option for your custom jackets.
Was this video taken in a park in Trempealeau !!? Looks like a place I have stayed at with my family!? Great videos.!
It was actually filmed just up the river at Merrick Sate Park, so not too far from your family campsite

Down is sad for the little animals.
So I just bought a down guilt from you a few weeks ago, and now I’m questioning the purchase. Can I exchange it based on your video?
Hi Christian! Just reach out to our customer service, and we should be able to help you out.
