Great video, Paul. That's the main reason, I got back into film photography, the modern processes. I do develop my own B&W , color film, scan and print. Film photography, slows me down, to be more creative . Film and digital , will survive together. KB

Excellent video, Paul! I think we share a similar view on processing film scans. For many of us an actual darkroom just can't work. I "edit", or process, all of my film scans as well.

Thanks for the interesting video Paul, I particulary liked the part on how to add a white background to your image using Photoshop, something I always seem to struggle with as there isn't an easy way in Lightroom.

@@PaulCSmithPhotographer I myself am using a old Mamiya C 330. I had a mamiya flex and a Roliecord back while I was in the navy. I went digital while working in the news business but have since returned to using film. I still believe that digital has not performed as well as film especially Kodachrome. Yeah it is close now but still a long ways away from the quality of film.

I noticed that you create your digital images using a jpeg file, I will either use tiff or raw depending on my scanning mechanism (scanner or dslr). Are you creating the jpegs because you feel your images are very close, editing wise, to where you want them? I'm not a PS user, but was wondering what the empty layer is used for between the white base layer and your image?

Hi Steve, these images were scanned a few years back on my old scanner. Nowadays I will scan in Tiff format mainly. If I feel the images will have no real future use I will scan in a Jpeg format, just so I have the file on hand. Tiffs can take up a lot of hard drive space, and after all the great thing about film is that I always have the negative to go back to if needed. That empty layer is actually the signature watermark. take care!
