What a story! Hope anyone who had an injury sees this can be inspired and has the best outcome possible. Rehabilitation is so important before venturing to attempt any new challenges safely. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
Uh, I snapped my Achilles Tendon a few years ago while windsurfing also on the left (back) foot. Painful experience, but healed completely. Have a quick recovery! Great content!
Hi Andreas! So nice to hear from someone who has been through the same.. and the best to hear that yours healed completely and that it doesn’t give you any more problems! Thank you so much for sharing. I believe you also had the operation? How long were you out of action before you could start windsurfing again?
@@KarovanTonder I also had surgery within 18 hours or so and like eight weeks in a boot. I was sailing again after a bit less than a year (avoiding jumps), but I was 50+ already when it happened. So as a young, trained athlete you might be quicker. Regaining confidence is a thing though ... and building back the calf muscle. You might want a slackline for training strength and balance as soon as you´re back at 100 % load on your leg. All the best!
Follow your dream wherever it tkes you but also never stop listening to your heart. Best wishes from Greece .
Thank you so much for your dear wishes 🙏
So sorry to hear that, love watching the Luduritz. Heal quick and get back to Sending it
Thank you so much for your wishes Phil! Will be back stronger next year for sure!!
Such bad luck Karo! I'm sorry for your injury. Looking at Luderitz, the speed run looks great fun, but that finish scares the hell out of me!
Thanks for your thoughts Simon. Hehe yes the start and run itself is a no-brainier… that stop box is the tricky and scariest part for sure! It’s gets very shallow very quick at that speed!
Hi Karo, enjoyed watching the video.. yes I am sure.. have to join you in the next years for sure.
Thanks Marco!! 🤙🤙Yes next year you must be there!!
That is mind blowing and shows how intense and dangerous speed sailing actually is. I wish you a very speedy recovery and come back stronger and faster!
Thank you so much for your nice message and wishes. I will definitely be back next year!! 🤙🤙
Great video! Good luck that you can enjoy windsurfing soon again.
Thank you so much!! In Feb I should hopefully be back on the water✊
We want to see you have another go at the record ,sympathy's and a quick recovery ,on to the ladies and overall record ,Perry 💐🌍🏆🤟😁🌺 53.7 kn av so real record .

Do you want too buy a board guarenteeed to be 50+kn capable for yourself designed buy myself and perhaps made by Pure Joy that's designer record holder and board maker ,things is the board to suit you and a speed capable sail but they must be for you ,sell you an exact copy design all measurements of the record holding board and a design for yourself ,change it if you want ,or copy either ,or sell wholeboard made for you, Kind regards Perry ,🏆🌍🖕
Hi Karo, I wish you well on your recovery!
I’m a UK 🇬🇧 Speed Sailor & competed against the record holder Zara for many years at ‘Weymouth Speed Week’
She is a very tough & strong sailor so I know what you’re going up against. She always won the ladies class & went quicker than most guys. Her speeds were always so close to mine & I wondered how she was so quick. I never had the best gear but I had good setup skills, strength & absolute determination. I learned that she had the same & that don’t give up ‘GO again’ determination that I know you have yourself too. The other thing I learned from many years of Speed sailing, which I’m sure you do too, was that you have to be ‘in it to win it’ ....be on the water when those gusts come through!
....again I wish you a speedy recovery & look forward to following that achievable Speed Record goal.
Regards Ant 🐜 🤠
Hi Ant, thank you so much for your awesome message and encouragement! I really appreciate it. It’s nice to hear about your experience competing with Zara and your positive outlook. Competing at Luderitz and going through all the motions and challenges that women like Zara also endured on her mission to get that impressive world record, really gives one so much respect and insight into the work that goes on behind the scenes to reach such an accomplishment! It is an exciting, but challenging journey… I am very dedicated to it. Looking forward to getting back up on my feet and preparing for 2022!! Thank you so much for your amazing support and for following my journey. 💪💪🙏
I wish you a speedy recovery Karo. I had a complete rupture of my R achilles some years ago. It's a tricky injury to rehab. Take care.
Thank you so much for your wishes.🙏 I’m so sorry to hear you also had this injury. How did yours rupture and what made the road to recovery tricky? It’s nice to talk with more people who have gone through the same. Glad to hear yours healed. They say one must be very patient as to when you return to high impact and load. Holding thumbs mine will be a smooth recovery so I can get back on the water in Feb/March!! 🤙
@@KarovanTonder Playing tennis. Mine was treated 'conservatively' by the British NHS & the result has not been very good. I think surgical repair generally has better outcomes for young fit people like yourself. I rehabbed the injury with cycling & now I do as much yoga as I can. Down dog is particularly good for hamstrings and achilles tendons. Anyway, I wish you a speedy and successful recovery.
You are awesome Kero! I wish you a quick recovery
Thank you so much for your wishes 🙏😊
Feel for you, must be so frustrating going through rehab. I just love watching speed sailing, utmost respect to you and your fellow competitors attempting this course, not for the faint hearted. Wish you a speedy recovery and all the best for your personal goals.
Thank you so much for your amazing wishes and support! Rehab is a very tedious process… but once recovered you are sometimes even better off than before the injury. Looking forward to be back on the channel next year!!
Thanks for sharing. A real bummer the injury got in your way. Looks as if you could have had a great running in Lüderitz. However, I am sure you'll come back stronger and faster next year. All the very best for your recovery!!
Thank you so much 🙏 It was really a big disappointment and very bad luck. But next year I will definitely be back stronger!! 💪😊
Hope you have a speedy recovery Karo so you can continue to inspire us all xx
Thanks so much for your nice message and wishes 🙏
Hi Karo, first of all, best wishes for a speedy recovery I'm sure you will come back faster than before. Congratulations on your speeds you did better than many men: awesome!
Thank you so much for your awesome message and wishes Roberto! 🙏 I really appreciate it. Yes, next year I will definitely be back, stronger 😊👍
Thank you for sharing. Always interesting. I wish you a speedy recovery ❤️🩹 and hope to see you back on the water as soon as possible. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for your wishes! 🙏
Nice to see a girl so eager to windsurf!!! I wish you a quick recovery.
Thank you so much!! 🙏🤙😊
Hi! Reallllllly intense video... I look forward to seeing you recover and hit the channel once again!
Thank you so much!! I am glad you enjoyed it 🤙 I will definitely be back next year!
Thanks for sharing your journey there, and experience there; it was exciting and sad it ended so abruptly. It good to hear you are on the way back!
Thanks so much for your wishes and for following the journey!! Glad you enjoyed it! Looking forward to be back stronger next year. 🤙🤙
Wow what an incredible journey! Sorry to hear such a harsh injury - I’ve had many pulled Achilles/calf muscles from running but can only imagine the pain and slowness from a complete rupture. Best wishes for a smooth, strong recovery!
Hi Gregory, thank you so much for your great wishes and support! Achilles is healing slowly but surely… definitely a lot of patience required! Looks like the surgeon did a great job with solid re attachment looking at the sonar. I can’t wait to be back in action!
Awesome news!! Best wishes for a strong and steady recovery! 🙏
Toll! Greeting to Charl ... van Henne (Norderney) :D
Thank you Henne!! Charl also sends you many regards 🤙🤙
Wow Karo. I could really imagine how you feel after your injury. Sorry to hear and see that because of that you have to finish earlier your challenge this year at Luderiz. Great photos of the country and video as well. Hope you get better and healing quick that you can go back on the water. 🤙
Thanks so much for your nice message and wishes Steffen. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.. it’s all part of the journey. I am positive that next year will be a strong, good year at Luderitz! 💪😊
Hope you will heal superwell!
Thank you so much!!
I like the way you were more worried about your kit after it happened LOL. Get well soon and well done on breaking 43kts.
Thanks so much for your wishes James! Hehehe there was no ways I was getting injured and right off my gear on the same day!! 😂👍
Best wishes to the best possible recovery!
Thank you so much!! 🙏
Pronta recuperación y Feliz Navidad
Thank you so much!! 😊
great video Karo, looking forward to join the event in 2022
Thanks so much! See you there in 2022!! 🤙🤙
Nils, are you going as well?! Perfect.
hey Karo I broke my knee looping 20 years ago, took me two years to recover, been physio-training ever since and because of that I have more strength in my legs and I can sail (and ski) better, so heads up and keep going!
Wow such a great inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It really shows that things like this can be used to one’s own benefit if you just keep positive, maintain your goal and follow the rehab religiously! 💪
@@KarovanTonder that's the spirit!
So sorry for you! Frustration is quite understandable but just like you rightfully say: you did not make any mistake there. You prepared perfectly. No reason to blame yourself. And more important: you are showing the right mental strength + focusing on the rehab process. This is an investment but it will pay off - no doubt :-)
You will be back on the water stronger than ever. So much deserved. Take care and thanks for inspiring us that much!
Wow such a nice message! Thank you so much for your wishes and amazing feedback. I am happy to hear that my videos and journey is so relatable and that it can help.. Happy to share all the joys and highlights, but also the difficult times that comes along with it. Looking forward to healing and getting back out there! 🤙😊
Get better soon!
Thank you 🙏
I wish you all the best for your 100% recovery. As disappointing as it is, the injury is a learning curve and part of a wider understanding of how quickly things can change, and just how intense the forces are to achieve these incredible speeds. Ultimately this experience will make you stronger than before. It will be quite the journey when all is said and done.....Meanwhile, I'm happy to just crack 30knots on my 105 Fox.......lol.....Bring on next year!!
Thank you so much for your nice message and your wishes!! It’s really great to be able to share this journey with all its ups and downs… So true about coming back each time with so much more insight and knowledge after these difficult times. Looking forward to being back next year and giving it all I’ve got!! Awesome to hear that you are enjoying your fox so much and hitting the 30knot fox club! That’s super fast!! 🚀👌💪
@@KarovanTonder you’re most welcome, I can’t wait for part 2!!
Yes, I love the Fox, super awesome board!!
When I was young and foolish I thought it was impossible to get hurt windsurfing and then one day, out in a high winds a landed a jump and the board did a 180 with my front foot stuck in the footstrap, the pain was unreal, lifted my foot out of the water, it was backwards, completely dislocated, all the ligaments torn, bone snapped. I was a long way from shore and panic was about to hit me when a book a just read completely calmed me and I got my shit together and slowly swam my way back to shore. The book was Touching the Void. I recovered and 4 months later, my first outdoor activity was climbing a beautiful ice climb called Bourgeous Left with my mates. Get well, you will be back stronger and faster.
Wow what a story! Thank you so much, it’s very inspiring.. it shows you what amazing ability the body has to recover! Being out of action is not the best of times, but sometimes injuries makes us even stronger and more appreciative for what we can do when all the limbs are in one piece. Can’t imagine the pain of having a foot twisted 180 degrees!!! Well done in scraping all the courage together to swim back to the shore! Must have been a nerve wrecking experience. Thank you so much for sharing and for your amazing wishes and support 🙏
Have a Speedy recovery Karo! Keep the positive vibe for the 22 LSC
Thank you so much Ernst!! Will do 💪😊
happy days for the future :)
Thanks so much!! 🤙🤙
Be strong, keep on trying, from Spain
Thank you so much for your support and wishes!! 🙏😊
Damn! that sounds pretty painful, I hope you get better soon :D
Thank you so much!! 🙏 It was super painful! I was so disappointed that it was game over, I almost didn’t even feel the pain in those first moments!
@@KarovanTonder I can only imagine! You are very strong and brave, thanks for making this videos and taking us along the journey.
Hello Karo, good to hear that you will recover completely. We don't need the Speed Challenge to get injuries, haha. There's always a risk (with every sports) to have an injury. Anyway, I really like how your video's are setup. We are a bunch of amateurs of different ages that try to show the world how much fun windsurfing is via our video's. Take care, Léon
Hi Léon, thank you so much for your wishes and your nice feedback. Yes can’t wait to heal up and get back out there on the water! So glad to hear that you are enjoying my videos. It’s great to be in a position where one can share all the joys and highlights, but also the real difficulties that comes along with it to keep it relatable for many more. Nice to see how you also promote this amazing sport on your channel! 🤙🤙
Hi Karo, I cannot agree more with you. Don't get me wrong, many video's are awesome/spectacular/out of this world. But there's also another side and this is shown by you too, respect! Take care, be safe and looking forward for your next memories :-).
Wish you a fast recovery to get back soon on the water.
Thank you so much!!

Snapping the Achilles’ tendon sounds like an awful injury. I hope you have a good and fast recovery.
Thank you so much for your kind wishes!! 🙏
What a story!! thank you for sharing this and good luck with your recovery.
This is a bit random but I'm kind of following your footsteps I got my first shoulder posterior labral tear in June and now I'm doing recovery training using a lot of the exercises that you posted on your brilliant video , and considering whether or not to have surgery
Thank you so much Olito! I am glad that you are enjoying my videos and that it is helpful. So sorry to hear about your shoulder dislocation. What I’ve learnt is that once the shoulder has dislocated once, it will always be prone to re-dislocation and further damage if not operated. Once the labrum is torn, it has to be re-attached for the vacuum to re-establish and the shoulder to be securely in place. Especially being an athlete and having that much greater risk for impact. With posterior dislocation something like simple like falling forward onto one’s hands can cause re-dislocation due to the instability to the back. My shoulders are both now as good as new after both the anterior and posterior repairs and I definitely recommend it! 👍👍
@@KarovanTonder wow that is great news so glad that both your shoulders are fully rehabilitated. This gives good Hope For surgery i really have to take the Leap of Faith
@@olitonottero7620 wishing you all the best with the recovery ✊ When you put in good effort with correct rehabilitation, it really helps to speed up recovery and mobility after the operation. Which movement caused your posterior dislocation?

warning - this is a long-ass comment
thanks, the biggest challenge since the injury has been to find the 'best' surgeon , PT etc. My PT is a great coach as well the mental game i would say is more than 90% of this, he could see I was struggling and basically said, "you can put your doubt in your pocket and borrow my belief"
today I got a big breakthrough , i finally received email '2nd opinion' from a surgeon i consider to be super great Roddy Mcgee, he's been on the Joe Rogan podcast talking about stem cells in orthopedics , and has some great vids on youtube about injury recovery sports psychology. i'm so happy that he basically confirmed what my surgeon in UK already told me "you need surgery".
in 2011 i had calf tendinitis and couldn't run for almost a year, my PT gave me exercises meant for achilles tendinitis based on the study below and it worked super amazing for me , pain completely gone and my calves got stronger w/ more muscle mass and at least remained a healthy flexibility.
i obviously believe in this because it worked for me, but there might be newer and better methods available now.
these are the exercises i used

@@olitonottero7620 thank you so much for sharing these links and your experiences. It sounds like quite a journey, as with most injuries like this. The most important part is to get the best surgeon possible. Here in SA I was also so fortunate with my shoulders to have a shoulder expert who really specialises in this field. So the outcome is just so reliable and trustworthy and one have peace of mind! I’ve heard that stem cells is quite a good way to treat Achilles’ tendon injuries that does not respond well to surgery. So good to hear that you have more certainty with your decision to operate. A really good specialist will be able to give the best advice and all the pro and cons. For me what also helped was having his assistance right through the whole recovery process to evaluate my progress and recovery. This way I knew I was on the right path took the stress out of it. 🤙🤙
Good luck with the rehab
Thank you 🙏🤙
Bummer! Hope you get back on the water sooner. And you can train around it if you are creative. I broke my shoulder a few years ago and couldt lift my arm at all and super painful but I could still snowboard, not recomended but I fully recovered anyway. Last year I tore off nearly all tendons in my foot (windfoil crash) but I recovered in 6 weeks without surgery and could mountainbike after 2 weeks wearing special rigid boots. Now its all forgotten and Im as good as new.
Thank you so much for your nice message and your wishes Stefan!! Wow it’s awesome to hear how quick and well you recovered from your foot ligament injuries!! It shows you how well the body can restore itself. I am definitely doing all I can to try keep up the strength in the rest of my body while out of action. Holding thumbs the muscle memory will pay off when I am back in action!! Shoulder injuries are the worst!! 🙈 Already both of mine operated after dislocations. Now they are as good as new! These injuries is all about one’s mindset… if you stay positive and keep focus on strength and the next goal.. time passes quickly and one can get back out there in full force! 💪
💪Get well soon
Thank you so much😊🙏
hospital again? 😱
poor thing.
i wish you all the best!!! 🙏
Thank you so much for your wishes! Yes such bad luck… but will be back stronger in 2022 😊🤙
Hope u fine now !
I think something else needs doing in engineering terms to soften the glide, especially at the tail of the board. I’m going to have to put my thinking cap on and come up with a new design. I’ll let you know after doing some research. I have seen a flexible tail that acts like suspension many years ago when I was a windsurfer. There must be a way to soften the shockwave going through the tail on the deceleration phase and carve. Anyway, get well and stay strong.
Thanks so much for your wishes and support!! 🙏Next time these two feet will be strapped up tightly for proper support…. Such a high impact zone in that finish box.
@@KarovanTonder the combination of high speed and shallow water is causing compression shock waves. It may be worth checking the center of gravity of the board. I looks to be creating a lot of bite in the tail. Very difficult for me to gauge. But like you I used to race down at Portland Bill in the UK on normal boards and can attest for how a board handles at speed and the perils of carving at speed. Best of luck in your next races. May the wind be with you.
get well
Thank you so much
