,in fact I love quails
My 5 Japanese coturnix are 3 weeks and this helps in sexing them. I figured the largest is a rooster but looks like it is a hen.
Most of the time the hens are larger than the males, the key is looking at their breast coloration. Thanks.
@@GKGPoultry I did a typo securing you probably figured is sexing
Hey, do you know how to defend from these predictors:
Fox Coyotes Owl Rats.
I already defend against raccoons and weasels, as 5 of are quail have died from a mix of those, as we didn't know.
I love this video! I am considering quail as my alternative to keeping egg laying hens. How do you clean your cages and how often? Reason being is, lile most other curious people, I would rather not use wire floors for the sake of the birds' feet. Also, what is the litter system and what material or substrate do you recommend?
Great question. For the system of bedding in the video, we are using a modified deep litter system, using a small garden fork to clean it out. I was using hay in these pens because it wouldn't sift through the wire on bottom, but straw, fine shavings, and even sand will work great. I would play around with different beddings, finding the one that your quail don't bury their eggs in (this has been a problem we have run into). Good luck with your adventure with quail!
My quail are 9 weeks old and I have 3 2 female 1 male and they are not laying ???
That is odd, they should be. but there is a ton of factors that goes into laying an egg.
@@GKGPoultry mine are not laying eggs , I got 1 male and 3 females
