Seeing the legend Wayne Rainey back on his bike after 1993, felt like a tube back into the time for real !!! I was little kido early 90's, remember Wayne Rainey, his special Yamaha bike! Today, on my birthday i just saw your video about this special event. Thank you Yamaha for taking challenges, fighting the impossible to a victory that gives people lifetime memory's!
I met Wayne when he first started with Kawasaki Superbike the year Eddie hurt his back. Rob Muzzy introduced me to him in the paddock at Pocono PA. We talked for about 20 minutes like we knew each other forever. We sat there on one of the build tables talking about all kinds of stuff. About an hour later I watched him on the track for the first time. Such a great down to earth guy.. the fame never changed him.. Thanks Yamaha… the memories go so deep for so many of us about these amazing human beings we call racers.
He is a great Idol for me. Not the way he was riding, because, i wasnt even born when he had his accident, but in a way he always wants to be back on the bike. And that helped me a lot after my accident. The life isnt the same anymore, but with a target, you can manage. And he encouraged me a lot to focus and get back on the bike. And not so far in the future, i will ride again. It wont be the same, but i will enjoy it.
I watched all the races back in the day, but when Wayne came off, I stopped watching as I, too, had similar injuries on a bike when I was 16 but on the road. Fortunately, i regained movement, and my life went back to normal eventually, but it really hit me close to home at the time. This was truly an inspirational and heartwarming story to watch all these years later. Ps. I still ride a Yamaha today :)
