As a 50 year old, myself and my mate got into bikes watching passionately these guys race these incredible bikes.. Seeing Wayne ride this bike again is emotional..I can’t imagine what it feels like for him…. Incidentally, my name is Wayne, and my best mate was also called Wayne.. so, we literally would think we were ‘Rainey & Gardner’ when we rode together.. Special times.

Absolute legend... true gladiator... I still remember watching his last race, leading the race and the championship. I was 15 and had been a fan since I was 9 when I first saw him fighting with Schwantz at the TransAtlantic Trophy meeting at Brands Hatch in 1987.
If it hadn’t been for that accident he would’ve won the 1993 championship without a doubt.

Even in '92, "Quick Mick" Doohan was right on his tails, finishing only 4 points behind Rainey, but with 3 races less driven because of his crash before the dutch TT. Had he not crashed, he would certainly have won the '92 championship. Before his accident, he was more or less destroying the competition!
And the numbers speak for themselves: Rainey: 24 wins Vs. Doohan: 54 wins.
In '97, Doohan won 12 races out of 15, with 2 #2's and 1 Ret. Rainey only managed to win 7 races in one season.
I have a lot of respect for Rainey, but if we have to look at it objectively, noone, not even Doohan, beats Giacomo Agostini...

Having suffered a broken back in 6 places in a motorbike off - i was just happy to survive. Surgeon told me id never walk again without a stick. I accepted that, but said…”ok, so what can i do to limit that?” - started intense physio a day after my 9hr op. Dropped all pain killers and did it. Today i have some limiting factors, however I can run and walk without a stick…
In the face of adversity - we can do incredible things, however, had i of been paralysed (my spinal cord was compressed) - id of accepted it - if it meant still living. Good on this chap!

I was not fortunate enough to ever c Wayne race, live. Only seen him in bits and pieces of stock footage.
I never saw a televised motorcycle road race until 1997 when I traveled to England.
Then, in 1998 my cable company began broadcasting SPEEDVISION. At 31 yrs old my motorcycle road racing thirst finally came to fruition. Every week my VCR was set to record MotoGP, WSBK and the AMA races. Absolute bliss.
Of note, at that time I was introduced to the WSBK announce team of Charlie Cox, Steve Parrish and Suzi Perry. That looks to b Suzi interviewing Wayne. It’s nice to c/hear her again.
That 2000 WSBK race at Imola (race 2) - next to watching Rossi incur a 10-second penalty at Phillip Island in 2003 and still win the race - was the best I’ve ever seen.

I cried, Wayne Rainey was my sister's favorite pilot. He was a teammate to my favorite pilot Eddie Lawson. I loved watching these guys move right up the ranks. I myself find it hard to walk without my cane. A long time rider myself I can relate. Covid took my sister last year, she would have loved to see this. Somehow I think she might

In true Wayne Rainey never give up fashion. I remember staying up into the early hours of a Monday morning watching Wayne race with the likes of Kevin Schwantz. Then with hardly any sleep busting to get to work and talk with my mates about how Wayne had gone in that race. What a legend I am so happy for him. This really brought tears to my eyes!

God I love this man. My all time favorite 500cc GP racer. I couldn't believe it when Wayne was injured in 1993. So cool to see him back on that beautiful 500cc Yamaha. 👍
