Ya, wow. I was just thinking he had to be up in age quit a bit. I wouldn't have guessed he is almost 90 years old until I stopped to think about it. Pretty wild really.
As a kid in the 60's my exposure to NASCAR was limited to ABC's Wide World of Sports. In 1969 when I was 14 I finally had convinced my father to take me to Riverside raceway to see the NASCAR race. At my dads insistence I stood in a line to get The Kings autograph. When it was my turn Richard was chatting with me while he took the 45-60 seconds it took to create the famous "sail rigging" signature. With my father was standing behind me Richard asked "what's your daddy do?" I told him he was a machinist. He asked "where's he work?" I said "Lockheed" and Richard replied, "Son, you daddy builds the jets that defend America"....and stood up and shook my fathers hand. Because my dads work was genuinely important to the King I never quite looked at my father the same way again. Thank You King Richard, I still have that autograph and I think of you and dad every time I see it.
My brief encounter with the King in 1981 Daytona pits as a 14-year-old boy. As he always did, the King spent time that day with fans I was lucky enough to get a 110 Kodak picture and an autograph. I am eternally grateful, and it truly changed my life - he was the first man to spend time with me as a fatherless 14-year-old boy. A great driver but more importantly, a great role model.
I met him in the Pits at North Wilkesboro, I guess I was about 12 (1972) he was very pleasant, seemed to love kids & I got that Wonderful Autograph. Still maybe the best in all of racing!
My Dad built Pete Hamilton's Camaro engines at Gene White Firestone in Atlanta in '69 and we were so happy to see Pete drive for the Pettys in '70 and win Daytona in a Superbird. And my Dad did well in '70, too, as one of two engine men for Mr. Bud Moore in Spartanburg, the year the team won the Trans-Am Championship with Parnelli at the wheel of a Factory Ford Boss 302 Mustang in orange-and-black livery about as famous as Petty Blue. Mustangs in those colors are still everywhere, two of the modern ones are here locally in Central Pennsylvania. And thanks for this channel, just discovered it and we as a family always loved the Pettys, too, my Dad worked Riverside and Ontario for the team in the early '70s and he was working the race when King Richard got his first win for STP at Riverside in early '72. And we were so worried that my Dad had made a mistake because the King ran out of gas on the back straight and we knew he was involved in fuel-mileage calculations. But it was okay, King Richard had won the race on fumes and it was the victory lap. 😀
It’s good to see the King out and about and getting around so good for his age. I am reminded of the time in the late 90’s when I was directing traffic after a race at Darlington the King was wanting to turn left where we weren’t allowing left turns, he got in the turning lane and pointed towards the road. I shook my head no and he pointed again towards the road. I walked over and was ready to go full trooper mode and I realized who I was looking at. Needless to say that he made his left turn as soon as I stopped 2 lanes of traffic for him.
Whenever you think NASCAR, one of the names that will often spring to mind from the most diehard fans is The King; Richard Petty. And for good reason. Richard Petty was the champion of champions when it came to NASCAR.
What a great event, and to have Richard and Kyle there with the most famous race car in NASCAR history to represent the USA made me feel very proud to be an American. THANKS to both of you, and to the crew of people that helped make it happen. Oh, and seeing Kenny Roberts was a thrill, too!
That is so much more than a race car. It's an icon driven by one of the greatest NASCAR drivers to this day, and younger Petty generations will enjoy that car for many years to come.
Really enjoyed this. Very cool to see King Richard and King Kenny hanging out. I'm 70 and have lived in Atlanta my whole life, but my wife is from England, and I've visited there 3 times. My bucket list included the Isle of Man TT and Goodwood. Went to the TT in 2022 and again next year. After that, I hope to get to Goodwood. I know ya'll had a blast.
Yeah, I have seen and heard this car in person at Wings and Wheels Dunsfold 10 years or so ago, and it's LOUD! Pretty much on par if not louder than F1.
Awesome Kyle💙《☆》Good to see You guys & (43) PLYMOUTH SuperBird across the Pond & Kenny Roberts (1) YAMAHA really capped it off for me as a Mopar fan & guy who cut my teeth on YAMAHA RD350 in the early 70s Cheerz Everyone✌🏼😎☯️🇺🇸
So so good to see Richard there in good health and excited at everything he's seeing. Kyle must feel like the king of the hill driving that iconic Superbird in one of the premiere competitions on the planet!🤩👍👍👍
King Kenny & King Richard :) My family and I got to see Kenny race multiple times in the 70's at Laguna Seca and one year at the Winston West Series stop at Seca both Richard Petty and Cal Yarbrough raced in the event. So awesome.
Kyle, I'm a 70 year old guy who's been a Petty fan till this day, good to see you having fun with such an iconic historic race car. The Superbird changed racing for the better, at least in this Mopar no Car guy. It was Kool to see the photo of you Your Dad (no Hat on, Rare) and your sisters Kyle I have to say this, I do miss Adam, he was alot like how your Dad was, a life cut way to short. Have fun man. Luved seeing that John Player Special.
After watchin' your earlier vid when you took the Superbird out for a spin through town...couldn't wait to see this follow-up. I'm 60 and followed your career and your dad's for decades, car posters on the walls. Great to see you guys out with the legendary Superbird again. I'm a kid once more.
The love that Kyle and Richard have for the sport is truly amazing. To complete and utter legends in the business. The smile on his face when he's piloting that bird is awesome.
That is simply beautiful. I’m glad Kyle gets to spend time with Daddy being older and the sisters. I’ve been loving these stories all summer long. The motorcycle trip is going Down Memory Ln., Timmy the swimming pool stories walking home from school on that little bridge thank y’all for sharing.
I loved those cars. I liked Buddy Bakers #6 and Bobby Isaacs K&K insurance Dodge #71. I went with my family as a kid to see those magnificent machines I had seen on TV, but we went to Wilkesboro where they didn't run the wings. I may have learned at 8 years old, 'Life can be filled with bitter disappointments'
Watching that Superbird race when I was a kid made me love NASCAR & King Richard plus I was already a MOPAR fan as my grandpa ran a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge dealership here in Georgia from 1946--1979! Always loved watching races at Goodwood too especially when they do the vintage races ✌💖☮
To Mr Kyle, and to King Richard, due in large part to your dad and the absurdity of the circumstances that brought about the r&d of the winged Chryslers, the Superbird and Daytona are my 1, 2 dream cars. Ty sirs
Very Cool seeing the old Super Bird at this event. Makes me feel old though. It's still an intimidating looking car yet as it moves around the track it's hard not to notice how very primitive it actually is. Like a long since retired football star the movement is arthritic looking vs the modern stuff on the track that so effortlessly makes the moves and power they can make. Richard Petty himself sums it up when he says, "I don't know how they do that!". The lumbering Elephant in the ridiculously long car moves like a school bus vs today's nimble race cars.......but I don't really care. It's just so cool seeing it doing some laps again. It's a near crime that it's spent virtually all of it's last 50 years in existence standing still in a museum. In a perfect world they'd take it out to Daytona and run it up to 200MPH at least once a year. Though......it might be hard to find a driver today with the balls big enough to risk it in a car with almost NOTHING in the way of the safety built into it that is typical of today. Today's race cars may be faster. The drivers every bit as skilled as any from the past.......but I do wonder how many of them today would have the BALLS required to drive this car at 200MPH as Richard Petty and the other drivers did it back in 1970.
I named my son after Kyle and rightfully so, him and his dad are both class acts. My son is a LACFD Engineer and I'm as proud of him as Richard is of his son.
I knew that wingcars could overheat in traffic but not at Goodwood! 😆 Glad it was just a bad radiator cap. Thank you for sharing these special moments.
So cool to see that Kyle got to live his childhood dream and get to pilot his father's iconic #43 Superbird that he wanted to drive since he was 10 years old at Goodwood. Can't wait to see part 2 of this awesome stuff. JAM ON IT, Kyle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to go to Goodwood Festival of Speed, to see so many classic race cars and drivers, they appreciate these cars and drivers, good to see them on the track again.
1st. The Petty’s are without doubt men of the people .. honest , caring , and always willing to take time for fans .. Amazing people all around. 2nd that car just sounds SOOOOOOOO MEAN !!!!! That’s the sound of a bygone era …
Kyle and Richard Petty have always been my favorite motor sports drivers.....my grandfather and my uncle told me stories.of how great your family is.....they were freind of the family for years and races together when racing started
Back as a baby motor head I was immediately enamored of the blue #43 and Richard Petty. 60 years later I’m proud that I had such great taste and to see how salt-o-the-earth the whole family is!
Seeing Richard quickly stride through the crowds, tall and square, at age 87, is phenomenal. I can only hope to be that fit when I reach that age.
Start taking some Goody's Headache Powders, they may be the key to a long healthy life.

King Richard and Kyle are the ambassadors of racing period ! Love you both ! Always have and always will ! Peace and Love !
This is misinformation
@DIARRHEA-PANIC Granted at Goodwood their are many greats but The Pettys are like royalty in the US. So not so much.
Petty Superbird: Best looking, best sounding and coolest car at the event.

King Kenny and King Richard. Wow! Only at Goodwood. 🔥🔥
Three words that describe the Petty's: gracious, humble and accomplished
Proud to be an American and a lifetime Petty fan 42-43-45
Kyle I’m super Happy for you Brother. I know Richard was proud to see you Driving it.
And of course i'm very sure Adam Petty was very proud

All hail the King! Not the King of England, but the King of Cars! That 1970 Superbird may just be the greatest car ever built, at least for my money.
That Superbird is so awesome!! 😎
Did he wreck it?
@@pb68slab18 Naw, Danica wasn't on the track... so all drivers were safe!!

Kyle does a great job at this, and he was also a very underrated driver according to several other drivers of that era.
What a sensational capture of the experience, well done.
Overcast helps dramatically with color, just beautiful.
Fantastic video. There's a lot of cool cars there, but #43 with the 426 is definitely the coolest. Super cool to see Richard out there too.
