  • June 1976. Air France flight 139 bound from Tel Aviv to Paris is hijacked by a group of Palestinian and German terrorists and flown to Entebbe, Uganda. On board are 226 passengers and crew - more than half of them Israeli citizens. What unfolds over the next seventy-two hours is the largest, most complex, and amazing hostage rescue operation in history.

While I was just 21 I was already involved in military operations. I clearly remember the day that the air france was hijacked. The speed with which this operation was mounted is not the first nor will it be the last. The risks involved were great anything going wrong is also the death of the hostages and the mission members. It is a seriously huge challenge to achieve the intended objective. the members chosen for this mission met that challenge and more. Very well executed raid and losses were absolutely minimal. Impressed yes absolutely.

This occurred at a time when no nation appeared ready, able & willing to halt the slew of terrorist hijackings that were going on at the time. It was a boost of good news in the era that was sorely needed. The Israelis deserve immense credit for carrying out this dangerous but courageous rescue operation. Kudos.

I was a New Zealander living in South Africa at the time of the Entebbe rescue. The morning after the rescue, the local newspaper printed the largest font, front-page headline EVER, declaring the success.
I saw that day, that EVERY black, white, and colored citizen in the country went about their business as normal - but with a HUGE smile on their face.
I was also elated that Idi Amin (who had by then murdered over half a million of his own people) was delivered at least part of his due comeuppance on that night.

I remember my father once telling me about this daring rescue as he heard about it on the BBC news. I watched the movie as well. But it doesn't show half of what really happened with all the amazing planning. But this documentary really showed the rescue in great detail. I felt tears coming into my eyes when I saw this amazing documentary and the veterans who served in the rescue speak about all their experiences. So many times I could see how God was with these Brave Soldiers all the way through out the rescue to save those hostages. All I can say is God Bless Israel. It is my dream to visit the Holy Land some day. I would love to actually meet any of these Brave Men some how and shake their hands.

I was traveling with my father on a trip by members of the Planning & Programming section of Ethiopia's Ministry of Agriculture, to visit a State Farm / Agricultural Research Station on the Didessa River west of Nekempte in Wollega province. I had just graduated from high school & retired to my hotel room after drinking a bit too much too quickly. At breakfast the next morning we celebrated the American Bicentennial (4 July 1976), and members of our party that had stayed up later than I told of seeing a strange sight in the early morning hours -- three planes flying south in formation in the western sky. Only when the news of the Israeli's raid on Entebbe reached us did we understand what they had observed. And I missed it because I drank too much. True story!

These hero's have gone down in the records of history.
All our & our allied country's military & special ops who fight & serve to protect & rescue our countries and people are hero's, but now & then you come across those that are going against all odds and still run full steam ahead into the belly of the beast and a 90 % or more chance of dying even before they make it to their designated site to complete their goal or being caught, tortured and killed during the operation
Or dying on their way before they even cross over into the site area (in the air or land); But still choose to go for the benefit of total strangers who need their help so they'll have a chance (no matter how slim a chance) to live, be Free & not be tortured.
Those are the hero's that are larger than life and are named, interviewed, remembered in history, and are what movies, series and books are written about.

I was in Berlin Germany from 1976 to 1979 and I was an American Infantry soldier. We had to perform guard duty at US Embassy numerous times against the same terrorist group this video is talking about. We carried a 1911 handgun in 45 ACP. We never had a chance if the terrorists came because we were not allowed to carry a live round in chamber. We carried a full magazine but not allowed to put one on chamber. The time it would take to rack the slide the terrorists would have already shot you by than. Only time I was allowed to lock and load when I was performing guard duty at Spandau prison in Berlin during Hitler's birthday. I was walking the small guard tower perimeter and we were told to lock and load are m16a1 because they were affraid someone would try to break in prison to free Rudolf Hess, he was the last prisoner in the prison. Wow, what an awesome amazing story, it gave me goosebumps because they had everything to lose and everything against them and showed the world what can happen when a determined group of soldiers put a plan together with every soldier’s opinion involved and just make it happen. When you talk about men who just do it and men who talk about doing it there is no comparison, these guys needed a bowling ball bag to carry the set of balls they had. I had heard about the story and the movie but nothing can be better then hearing the true bravery come from the mouths of the men who did it. I love when good destroys evil. To many times we hear how much evil is in this world and it’s depressing and sickening but I still have faith in goodness and good people and I believe that we can overcome these plagues of evil doers but we must believe and we must stick together. I salute all the men who were involved in this amazing operation especially the ones who gave their lives so their citizens could be free and of course the men who brought the hostages back home. You have a beautiful story for your children and your grandchildren to tell until the end of time because what you accomplished will never be forgotten and can never be taken away.
