I love how the fuel gauge literally is used as a sign of emotion in the end it had the look of someone passing away. A old sad but understanding look and as the night comes the last final light of your freind who's pulled you through so much goes out.

@@beacher50_ its not even an upside down boat, as we can see the main character's father seems to be one of the inventors of major steam machines on the island. Its just a style of steam car the inventors did.
Completely agree, by the end when only half of the vehicle was left, I wandered off a little bit and He inched towards me with the sail and that broke me internally. A vehicle made me feel more emotion than anything else.

no, sean. that's what we call hail. and, yes, it can do THAT much damage.
Hail shouldn't set the sails on fire though, I would think. I've never had it set anything on fire around me, including my car when I've had to drive through it. It did really resemble hail in form and sound, I agree, but I also thought Seán was right that it had an acid nature to it since the sails had to be continuously doused with water so as not to set on fire.
Since the rest of the weather was pretty transient and intense and a bit dystopian I wouldn't be surprised if it was acid hail of some sort. But I have absolutely no idea, I'm just guessing :)

@@sunstripe85 It wasn't the sails that were on fire, but the machinery that operates it. Which was getting hit and damaged by the hail.
@@sunstripe85 well it was not the sail that was on fire though, it was the machine which controlled that operated the sail that broke, and i don't know about you, but i am quite sure that when something like a machine ,which is using some kind of fuel or electricity is really damaged a lot, it has the habit of starting fire.

That's one of the things I like about the micromanagement in this game - you can never screw yourself over with your fuel management. Even if you run out because you just don't pick any up, you can tow the train to the next one by hand. It'll be slow, but it's doable.
The peacefulness of this journey reminds me of the last of us when you're just journeying through the abandoned cities and it's just so peaceful

Jack, a game called "Songs for a hero" is a must play for you, i guarantee you gonna love it. It's a musical game and your whole adventure and every action is narrated trough a song so very entertaining.

I actually like the fact that at the end of this game, the water started to rise and the rocks you just ran across sink beneath the surface as the "tide changes". (Part 2 is called Changing Tides)

Honestly hearing about the people who resolutely refuse to stop living in nuclear fallout zones or similar, simply because that's where they've always lived, this kind of reminds me of that. The main character doesn't want to leave their home behind, because that's where their loved one is buried. Then they think there's no point going because everyone has already left without them. Only to get to their destination and find out everyone else was just waiting for them to make the decision in their own time

Hey, just to let you know... the sequel to FAR: Lone Sail is out now. It is called FAR: Changing TIdes and were Lone Sail is the land ship, Changing Tides is on the water. Haven't bought it yet but I loved the original so much I will be buying this one as soon as possible. Love these games so much.
They should make a third game and have it be an airship. Or rather for all three.

These short, visual based games with little to no talking are some of my favorites to watch because they’re so atmospheric and bring about a story of personal interpretation. As an enjoyer of creativity and an artist myself, the vast emptiness and the dimensional 2D style of this game is like art porn to me.
Agreed. These type of games give me chills no other indies can. The sheer storytelling purely based through visuals will always take the cake for me.

Its been several years since I last watched Jack, I remember being obsessed back when I was around 8 watching his Slither content, now at age 16, this video popped up on my recommended and so I took a look at the runtime, made myself comfy with some homework, and enjoyed the ride, Its been a while old friend, thank you for all the content of the years that so many millions have gotten to enjoy.. this is a beautiful game and I had bought and played it shortly before watching this, it was so fun getting to see you enjoying the interactive story this this presents, lots of love from down south, I hope you and everyone reading this is well in these times, and have a good one all..

In literature at least we call that forced perspective “the sublime”, where you’re overpowered with emotion because of an enormous, humbling thing. Poets of the 1800s talked about it with nature and it comes up a lot in stuff from that time :)

Yeah, same with philosophy and art. The sublime refers to some greatness beyond what we can possibly measure, and it’s basically exactly what Seán was describing in that part of the game, the vastness beyond us and the amazement/humility we feel when observing it.

I never thought about the afterlife interpretation, but it makes sense, especially since you see the grave in the beginning and the coffin in the larger vehicle later.

All I can say is that it was a very beautiful in art style and story telling game. It told a story with nothing but a train and some energy but it sent a message that all of humanity eventually moves on with each other, each at our own pace.
I love how he sees an obstacle and his first thought isnt "Brake, Brake, Brake", instead, its "FUCK, LET'S HOPE FOR THE BEST!!!"

In the beginning I was very skeptical, I thought it would be too simplistic for my liking but I’m glad I stuck around. The art style and the music and the visual storytelling was phenomenal. Seriously underrated game, I had never heard of it until now. I really like your take on it representing an afterlife journey, but I interpreted it more as perhaps a journey through grief. In the beginning I’m pretty sure that was the grave of a close loved one the person was at, which is what sparked the thought it could be a journey through grief. The first stage of grief is obviously denial, which I think the character may have already gone through and now had shifted into the anger stage of grief when we start the game. The first actual colour that wasn’t a shade of grey or black that we see is red, which is associated with anger. Then we shift into the bargaining stage as we start to see more colours in the blue isles again. After that comes the depression phase, which represents the darker colour pallet again with the occasional reds. Then finally the last stage is acceptance, your train boat is destroyed and you choose to leave it behind and move forward again by lighting the beacon and rekindling your hope and happiness. Those are just my thoughts, it definitely seems like a game where the interpretations are up to you! No one is right or wrong :)

One of my favorite things I ever wrote was about a creature that made a booming noise. It could be heard from all across it's habitat, the terrifying shrieks of a predator, the sound of footsteps on the prowl
It was a rodent no bigger than a possum, an herbivore. It used it's auditory mimicry as a defense

I just wanna thank Jack/Sean for playing these games and doing long videos like this. I wasn’t allowed to play video games as a kid and find it extremely difficult trying now (even though I’m only in my early 20s), so having these videos let’s me enjoy games I probably never would have. I like watching these kinds of videos while I do my nails, which takes FOREVER. And since all of my 3 friends moved towns or states away/stopped talking to me, it’s nice to have any kind of company (even though video) besides my family. So, thank you Jack. 💚

This was so enjoyable to just watch. I was able to relax, cozy up, watch the video for 2 1/2 hours while also doing some homework. I always need something on the background for when I'm doing homework, and watching Jack's long play throughs like this always helps me!

I love that the train really does look like a whale. The energy being the eye and when it's getting low on energy, it looks like the eye is closing as though it's going to sleep
yeah i thought that too also with the front door looking like a whales mouth
And when you vent steam, how the energy-liquid sloshes makes it look like it's furrowing its eyebrows with determination to go faster. Like, *hrrrrgh! Full steam ahead!* for all of a few seconds before it sloshes back around.

Please tell me someone notices it looks like a camera too? Like the front piece you can see where the flash would be and where the lense would be and the back piece up top is where you'd look through...(?)
Can we just appreciate the fact that at exactly 21:18 Sean just blew right through a stop sign?! I thought that was one of the funniest things I've ever seen him do, and not two minutes earlier he had just said "I don't have my license" then proceeded to prove that once more

Can't help but be invested in this game...2, 3 hours went by so fast...I was you Sean, urging Thomas on, loving the open spaces and beautiful music, just mesmerizing, and the artistry in the scenery was such a vibe, I kept hoping Thomas could go on...just loved it so much.
