- The Rolling Stones were on a roll! Between 1968 and 1972, they put out four albums that many fans say are their greatest, and some even say they're among the best rock albums ever made. Their last album in this amazing streak was a double album called "Exile on Main St." It was a wild ride to close out this epic period, just like you'd expect from the Stones.
Most folks know the story behind the album's name: the band had to leave England for a while because of high taxes, so they rented a place in France to make their music. But even though they were in Europe, the music on "Exile on Main St." is a mix of blues, soul, country, and rock - a sound that's all over the map in the best way possible.
The Rolling Stones love to mix things up! They're known for their rock and roll sound, but they've always had a bit of a soft spot for country music (and let's be honest, maybe a little something for fun on the side). 'Sweet Virginia' is a perfect example. This song blends those two styles together with some cool harmonica playing by Mick Jagger and an awesome saxophone solo by the late Bobby Keys. It's a relaxed, bluesy tune that will leave you wanting more. And hey, this is just the first taste of the different sounds you'll find on 'Exile on Main St.

I’ve always liked ‘Country Honk’ which I think was the first country style thing I heard the Stones do. ‘Sweet Virginia’ is further evidence that the Stones can be a superb country band when the mood takes them!
Sweet Virginia is my favorite song of all time!!!
