Personally Imola 94 is by far the scariest and darkest day in F1 history. 2 driver fatalities in 1 weekend was just horrific.
Was almost 3 fatalities in that weekend.
@@schumi246Personally, not even Imola 1994 is the scariest day in F1 history. For me, it’s the 1961 Italian Grand Prix when Wolfgang von Trips collided with Jim Clark and was killed along with 15 spectators
agree
@@drewgriffithsfm I'd like to add Zandvoort 1973, Roger Williamsson crashed and David Purley parked his car to help out, trying to flag down other drivers to help out, the other drivers thought that it was Davids car that was on fire and since there wasn't a red flag, they simply drove past the accident.
If even 1 or 2 drivers had stopped, they could've maybe overturned Williamssons car and gotten him out since their suits were more fireproof than the marshalls.
But instead they had to live with the fact that they drove past a man who was slowly suffocating to death, and they didn't find out until after he died.
Imola 94 was the most tragic and dark, but I wouldn’t say it was the scariest of all of them
I remember watching this and being absolutely terrified, glad he was ok.
I remember me and my dad watching this race live and when we saw him climb out of the car we both screamed with happiness
I’m watching drive to survive and a watched that bit 3 times
I’m watching drive to survive and a watched that bit 3 times
Same
bro ruined the whole video bc I saw comments 😭😭😭
The crush demonstrated the safety milestones f1 has achieved..It was insane that a driver can literally walk from such a crash.
this guy be like : "im gonna die, shit, what should i do? i guess im just gonna stay alive"
he watched an ad to stay alive
@@RonaldEditssunderrated
This accident was truly horrific.. glad he was ok 👍
Great video
Happy that you enjoyed it mate 👍🏻❤️
@@DailyFuelUp bo**le of wa*er
I remember just standing frozen in front of my TV that entire time. My wife walked down the stairs and saw me just standing there with absolutely zero expression on my face. Just terrifying when I saw that fireball in the broadcasting background.
This was unbelievable to witness live as it happened.
Yes. It was
Just started watching F1 in 2020, and seeing this live was such a shocker for a first time viewer.
to think he just burnt his hands and broke a foot?... it's truly incredible!
sprained ankle but yes
Didn't he also break a rib
@@Jeffthengineer may have .. honestly can't remember... i do recall him being ....quite unharmed for what that crash was..
Just realized this is gonna become a iconic story years later
When I saw the fireball live on tv, there was a moment I really thought I just watched a man die live
To think that grosjean still laughed on the social media video just shows that he is a legend keep racing mate
I cannot belive that you only have 22k subscribers, I think you should at least have 100k! Your videos are amazing!
I'm so glad I missed seeing this live, I watched Marco Simocelli's last race and that was a horrible feeling. Only reason I missed watching this was because it was my wedding.
I've been an F-1 fan since the late 60's early 70's so I remember the times when drivers were killed regularly. Grosjean said that 28 seconds seemed like a minute 30 but to me watching the race live it seemed much longer than that. I still actually shuddered writing this. Miracle he made it out.
As a spectator of F1 since 1963, I can assure you this is certainly not the scariest day in F1 neither was Imola 1994 but they were tragic.
Unfortunately I have watched multiple drivers burn to death and being decapitated. Cars flew off the track into the trees lining the circuit killing the driver and so on. No barriers back then.
Today F1 is unbelievably safe, in the past Grosjean would most likely not have survived the initial impact let alone the fire. I will add all lives lost in sport are tragic, and to the various F1 influencers, please do not make tragedy a competition.
I dont watch F1, but many of my friends do, and I remember that day so clearly, the whole timeline was in shock, and this and Zhou's crash still come to my mind occasionally ever since they happened
Its crazy how the car split like that
this was literally such a cursed race. the race from hell. after the second crash happened, I might be hesitant to even get back into the cockpit again lol
Great video bro 👏
I watched this live in my living room and damn near screamed. I know for a fact that I shed a tear or two when seeing Grosjean escape that fire. This was wild. That halo saved his life.
A horrific crash and Romain survived. What if he was knocked unconscious from the 67G impact? Could he have been saved? Romain saved himself to a great degree, unbuckling his seat belt and getting out then assisted by race staff. It was a horrifying moment, a feeling of certain death and like a miracle he was alive escaping. The Halo’s biggest test for safety and great example it works. We have seen it work protecting driver heads and necks when cars fall on top of each other but this crash was extraordinary. Romain is alive due to the Halo. It probably would have saved Jules Bianchi.
I remember watching it live with my dad and brother and that shit was horrifying
I remember watching Imola 94 and seeing my favorite driver crash. At that time, Brazil did no stop broadcasting. It was hard to watch him lay flat on the floor with no response.
To think, so many people were against the halo at first. Yet it saved so many lives.
watching this live was honestly really terrifying
I REALLY don’t like Kvyat. Not only did he cause 2 accidents in this race, but he was so often causing crashes that he earned the nickname “Torpedo” for his habit of driving straight into other cars.
omg the torpedo… i remember the day Vettel gave him that nickname
I am pretty sure he was actually called the Moscow Missile.
@@kimcolombani4320 After Kvyat crashed into Vettel in the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix, Vettel and Kvyat had an argument in the driver’s room, and Kvyat was branded “The Torpedo”
I mean, this accident clearly wasn't his fault. Grosjean veered across the track.
Great video, rally interesting stuff… but u gotta credit Dream Cave for that amazing music
For my Dad and I, this was a normal Sunday morning for us. Every F1 weekend, we'd wake up on Race Day and cook our standard sunday breakfast, all the while watching the recorded F1 race on our DTVR. We always paused our cooking for the opening lap, and when this happened, my Dad was stunned, the first time I had ever seen him scared at a sporting event. We immediately shut off our appliances and watched in horror as the disaster went on. Waiting for Grosjean felt like an eternity, a time where, for the first time ever in my life, I thought I was going to see the death of an F1 driver; I was soon in tears. When he emerged, I thought I was going to collapse, I was so relieved. I hope i never see a crash like this EVER again. Racing is dangerous enough.
There has been far worse more tragic that this crash
This was the very first F1 race I watched and I was at a sports bar for good effect!! It was utterly atrocious and I was questioning whether F1 was something I wanted to get into. I’m glad Grosjean made it out alive and recovered fully 🙏🏾
Ohh I remember watching this race and this horrified me,glad he was fine tho
Nikki Lauda was up there too
Damn the aftermath of that accident reminds me of Gilles Villeneuve's crash. Seeing an F1 chassis in multiple pieces on the track is a terrifying sight.
3:50
That has got to be the most terrifying part of a slow death. Just finally accepting your fate, and just giving up.
But at the same time; it would kind of be like this huge weight was lifted off of your shoulders. You no longer have to worry about the next rent, or the next race, or what you are going to do if you get fired.
You are just at peace with the fact that this is your last moment on this planet.
"Huh, What did you say? GTA 6 is coming out? OH HELL NAH"
I was told that his fireproof suit would keep him alive for 30 seconds, he got out at 28!
That is definitely a miracle right there!
When I saw it, I felt dead in the inside until he walked out of the flames, damn he is a trooper
I watched half awake and fully woke up because I thought yet again I saw a driver die on live TV (the two previous driver deaths being Dale Earnhardt Sr at Daytona in 2001 and Dan Weldon at Las Vegas 2011)
My goat
did we all just forget about 1976 when niki lauda almost died? his car caught fire after a crash and he burned alive inside it without a helmet, and that left his face permanently disfigured.
The worst thing is no one knew who is in it? Surely the worst thing was for the person that actually was in it
4:07 hamilton: yoo thats crazy
This was scary and very dark, however i wouldn't call this the scariest day in Formula 1 history... that's simply - and unfortunately - not true at all
1977 Tom Pryce, horrifying, dead on impact. Dont look it up unless you have a really strong stomach
I saw this a couple of years ago, this was...i,i just don't know how describe this, just poof and 2 lives are gone
I just wonder how someone can survive this. And walk out they like the terminator.
The man who walked through fire
The day that happened I remember seeing it on the Internet a couple of hours after it happened and I was like HOW??? how the bloody hell did he walk away from that?!
I stood up and didn’t sit back down until he was in that medical car
I am a fan of senna but I can not see his race because i was born on 2014😢
The Scariest Day In Formula 1 History is a bit of a stretch. There were many other accidents that marked the history of F1. Like for example, May 1994. 2 dead drivers, 1 injured driver and several wounded mechanics. Niki Lauda's crash in 1976, or the deaths of Tim Pryce and steward Jansen van Vuuren in 1977.
How ironic that the man who was against bringing the halo to F1 had his life saved by it
My exact response was OH GOD
After Perez' incident, a steward ran across the track in front of Norris to extinguish the fire
Horrible, horrible accident.
For me personally an accident like this was the reason I initially had reservations regarding the Halo.
A driver trapped in his burning car unable to get out because the Halo blocked what little room he would have had to get out.
After this race I realised, while this might be a possibility, there is also the possibility he wouldnt have any survival room without the Halo in the first place.
I think you might not watch all simulation of this accident.
If the HALO is not there, the helmet gonna take all damage when the cockpit slides under the barrier.
The HALO is the thing that tearing the steel barrier and prevent serious damage for the helmet, if the helmet hit the steel barrier - Grosjean's head will be crush!!
Look at the HALO!! Don't you see it's tearing apart like that?! The HALO is titanium dude!! The helmet won't start a chance at all.

Given how your comment is written I am pretty sure you have misunderstood me buddy.
Unsung hero? What about the track guy with the estinguisher?
No one can die without gods permission
The most terrible day was the 5 October 2014 for me because I have the same name.
The day we lost jules Bianchi rip 😢
Great video, explains what happened to beginners like me, but i have a question, how did the halo exactlt save him?
If I remember it pushed the gaurd rail away from him so he basically squeezed through there's a video that shows it in 3d and how he made it
Yeah I think without the halo, his head would have went directly into the guardrail as the car went into the barrier. Because of the halo’s strength, the guardrail slid along the halo and was pushed over his head as the car punched through the barrier
If it wasn't for the halo, he would've died like Jules Bianchi. Though it is controversial whether halo would save Bianchi or not, it definitely saved Grosejan.
I know very little about F1 but thought this would be interesting. Then, out of nowhere at 6:13, I see Hamilton riding the same scooter I have lol. WTF
I wouldn't call this "the scariest" but pretty scary ngl
This can happen in speed activiteiten 😊🤷♂️
We must always stand still how dangerous this sport is. Please don’t do more races in a year . The drivers get to tired. The driver mostly are boys and ( girls) who are having a family or maybe father or mother.m.not more money enough is enough.
they are aware of these dangers, but they still want to race, they don't care if it's dangerous, they just love the sport
this was the first race I ever watched in my life. I didn't even know what was happening. Not a very pleasant start to F1 for me tbh.
must be may 1st 1994... Senna,s dead, but also.. spectators got injured by flying debris (start crash Letho ?Lamy ) and a few minardi mechanics with a pitlane incident caused by Alboreto.. ,
Niki Lauda, or Aryton Senna are just as or more scary than this
I remember this and just felt dread.
I never would have thought he would make it, fucking awesome how he survived
so kvyat almost got grosjean killed and then went and flipped lance?
How bout the one where one or two died
This is not the “most terrifying crash in F1 history” sort your titles out! Niki Lauda’s 1974 crash was way worse
you mean 1976?
Kvyat always comes in like a torpedo. Can't believe it.
Tbf his collision with Grosjean wasn’t his fault. The collision with Stroll was a straight up attack
0:40 Everyone knew who was in the car! Why faking even more drama?
Hello there.
Hey mate 👋🏻
Ahhh general ken obi
This was no where near the scariest day in F1 history. Not with the standards of todays safety. Very short memory or no clue of the sports history to write that title
For modern day f1 yes it was..
The worst day was when Williams team killed Senna
If you think this is: "The Scariest Day In Formula 1 History", then you don't know Formula 1 History.
The Phoenix rises
bro forgot to delete his sreach history😅 but all joke aside glad bes ok😊
I remember saying playfully to my wife "well, now we see who dies in an explosion..." just before race start... just to sit amused for some time...
🤷♂️👍👀💪
Everyone praises the halo but it very near killed him that day too, its the reason he was stuck. The rail was over the top of the halo, cutting the escape in half. He initially tried to get out the smaller side and couldnt. If the car had penetrated just an inch or two less, it would have trapped him there.
If the halo wasn’t there his neck could of snapped and he wouldn’t be here today
@@thewaldiefive5266 The point is there was just as much potential there for it to kill him rather than save him.
If the HALO isn't there, his head will be crush when the cockpit hit the barrier. The HALO was tearing the barrier apart and make enough space for the cockpit to slide under barrier.
Believe me, that helmet looks strong. But it's won't start any chance when the F1 crash into steel-barrier at 119mph.
The HALO did tear the steel-barrier apart. That's the thing we cannot deny.
@@phucthinhnguyen5633 and I dont, but as I explained, and as Romain explained, the guard rail was over the top of the cockpit, dividing the exit space in two, just mere inches from trapping him in the fire.
It didnt happen this time and I think if you ask anyone they would take instant death over being cooked alive over several minutes, but there will come a time when it does cause further injury or death.
It amost trapped Hamilton in his car at Monza, Verstappen's rear wheel was very close to being cradled in the halo.
Halo is only a bandaid solution. Many other areas could be improved and make it redundant.
Nikki Lauda's was worse
Roger Williamson has entered the chat
Why did you use so many editing tricks to try and sensationalize what happened? The actual event was incredible as it was. There was no need to add all the goofy sound effects and reaction shots.
I only clicked on this to dislike. Do some research. Plenty of far worse times in the sport’s history.
All wearing masks like good little sheep, yeah it's sad alright.
you need to seek mental help, being like this isn't healthy.
