I didn't test it against it as they are different focal lengths. But it is a fair question. I gave it some thought but wanted to keep the testing at 75mm,
This looks like an interesting lens. The Z 9 in DX mode leaves you a quite usable 19.5mp image. You might have to think about the ramifications on the 24mp cameras since you’re left with 10mp.
Interesting new products from viltrox. I have used a few of their lenses for Fujifilm X-mount for the last couple of years and been impressed with the performance. I tried a full frame 85mm viltrox on a Z5 and liked the output, but budget is always a concern, so I opted for the versatility of the 24-120 f4 S. The comparison to the 50 or 85 1.2 Nikon lenses might be fun, but the APS-C framing limitation of the viltrox f1.2 offerings almost feels like a pure marketing move. Nikon's crop sensor Z bodies are not their biggest sellers at the moment, and this lens on the popular Z6 and Z5 models renders only about a 10 megapixel image. I can see this being more useful for our friends that use video a lot more, but for still images, that drop in pixel count has a noticeable impact on images. With the Z7/8/9 models the cropped pixel count is the same as the native Z50/30/fc models. Very cool lens either way, but I would probably favor one of the full frame offerings or adapt a vintage 105mm lens. Thanks for taking time for a thorough review.
Nice video thanks! A few people have suggested a comparison with the Z 85mm f1.8 and I am sure that would be a better comparison than a zoom at f4. 10mm shooting portraits is less than a foot I’d suggest?
The problem is they are different focal lengths so it is hard to compare. There is more magnification with the 85 so that could give the appearance of sharpness. That being said the 24-120 is a stellar lens - that is why I choose that lens to compare against.

I would love to compare this lens with my 85 1.2
Me too - can I borrow it? :-)
Seems like nikon either requires 3rd parties to design their lenses to look like nikon lenses or they just do it on their own? 🤔
I think it is coincidence. .
How does it stand against the nikon 85mm 1.8?
I didn't test it against it as they are different focal lengths. But it is a fair question. I gave it some thought but wanted to keep the testing at 75mm,
Ive got the Viltrox 13mm 1.2 lens on a Nikon Z30 and love it. If I don't win it im still going to purchase this lens.👌
They make some really good lenses, I think sometimes people do not consider Viltrox as seriously as they should when buying a lens.
@@ShutterSpeak Came in today, going to run it though its paces this weekend. Live long and prosper🖖
@NawlinstoVegas I see what you did there...🎇
in need of this lens for my nikon z50
It is a great choice for a Z 50. Thanks for watching.
Another stellar product and they are so quick to fix issues with firmware updates. Glad they moved to usb C micro usb was a pain.
USB-C definitely makes things easier. Less searching for a cable that I almost never use!

It would be a great option for weddings 🙂 Thanks for watching
Can be a great 135mm f1.8ish equivalent for Z9/Z8
112.5mm to be exact - but yes - a solid choice leaving you with around a 19 megapixel image. Thanks for watching!
It seems to be good looking lens!
My husband even came over to watch. Super thorough.
Tell him I said Hello!
