Just an FYI, I have a BUNCH of trees from Chris at Travelling Gardeners. Amazing guy, and fantastic trees. I'm planning to take a ride to his place to pickup a few more.
Great video, my friend. I really enjoyed it. I hope to try my Cessac soon it's about 2yrs old. And I did score an Ondata this year, you got me excited about it now after your reaction 😄. Keep filming 👍
Ya I’m excited to own both varieties. Everyone will be talking about Ondata still in a couple years… my friend said be patient with the Cessac, it took his 4 years to taste this good.
@basementfigs That Ondata looks and sounds like that bigger better fig that we've always wanted and sought after. I'm grateful to the fig master MP for sharing another find with us, and it's common
@@basementfigs lol nice. Btw I just saw a video by figczar with (Carlos from NJ) where they compared smith to cessac too but his leaves are so different from what I’ve seen from MJFigs and others.
@@firstname7769 I fast forward thru it. MJ is adamant that his cessac was just ok until now. The age gap was too big on their video. We did 5yr tree vs 4yr tree. Also taste is subjective and picking the figs at the right time. I didn’t notice the leaves though.
Tough question…. I don’t wait til I have a massive root ball when I air layer… half the bag filled with roots is enough for me…. So I’ll remove the figs… if you have a full bag of roots, you can keep the figs if you want. I also remove figs cause I wanna grow the tallest single trunk I can before winterizing them.
I've had figs off a 30' fig tree in California. Among the figs, there were 3 distinct flavors, meaning fig to fig, they can taste different--even from the same tree. If space is a concern, and a hobbyist already has Smith, Cessac is unnecessary IMHO.
You can make that argument on lots of varieties. But if you’re just starting out in the hobby, and had limited space, you can skip the Smith and just get a Cessac IMO.
@@basementfigs yeah, since Smith can take a few years to start setting and holding the fruit. I remember buying Cessac for $90 a cutting a few years ago.
Agree you will have 3 distinct taste on a tree. Under ripe, ripe and overripe. 4th bonus one is spoiled. Smith is a great fig but not better in taste than a ripe Cessac from a mature tree, you cant compare to the taste of a younger tree.
Amazing trees!
Another awesome video. I hope that you keep pumping out the content! Love your channel and your passion for figs.
I’m just riding the excitement wave of waiting for these figs to ripen. Thanks for watching and support!!!
Great video
Thanks for watching!
Wow, killer yard, Homer!!!👍
Haha.. wish it was bigger!
Your trees look amazing, Homer! ❤
Thanks Ator!!

I wanna go!!!

@basementfigs Yes, they will. I will. Thanks. I need to get the Cessac into a 15 gallon or the ground
Thank you for visiting, it was great to have both of you and Antonio to come and try these varieties.
I had a blast!!

@AveryOCason it’s gonna make some noise in the community once more people have it!!
how many days does smith suspended last after wue starts to swell before cutting
Should have bought an ondata though 😂
I got an airlayer from a friend! Check the new video!!

Magnolia Texas. Wow, that's a big statement! Better than a Smith! Now I'm going to have to locate one.
I know! I know! I didn’t wanna believe it either!!
@@basementfigs I'm searching for one now or at least access to one soon. Thanks great video, I have already shared that with friends.
Wow❤ I would die for a cutting 😢
I hate rooting cuttings… I’m gonna try to root this winter…
is it necessary to remove figs from a branch you are air layering?

@@MJFIGS there's one more version of ripe, which is "perfectly ripe" lol
Now I need Cessac
Sorry… but you’ll thank me in 5 years when you taste a perfect Cessac!!
I like cessac a good deal better than Smith too. It is less finicky for me to get to fruit too 😊
I can’t wait!! Thanks for watching!!
Cool but next time taste with friends who will be on camera. That's part of the fun.
I couldn’t agree more!!! LOL
maybe taste them without knowing which one is which. Do multiple fruits, cant compare by eating one fruit
I get what you saying. I’ve tasted enough smith to know that was a good smith. The cessac was that much of a difference. Enough for me to buy a plant.
