Thank you for a straightforward explanation and step by step direction. No sponsor ads, no annoying brand shoutouts, just fixing a truck. I appreciate that.
Thank you for the high quality instructions and video! Having torque specs and wrench sizes saved a lot of time! I had never replaced a gear box before and this video was a huge help!
Hey man, great video. Just wanted to add, I too put in the 4 bolt Redhead steering gear. It was great for a year then developed some steering slop like the stock. I shoulda went with the 6 bolt to match the TSB dodge put out on our Rams. Just an FYI, if you develop slop with the larger tires and spirited driving. Im going to replaced the 4 bolt redhead with the 6 bolt.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 pretty sure he meant PSC, which is a very high quality box. It’s a brand new box & 6 bolt design unlike redhead. I have a PSC box in my garage waiting to be installed.
Was putting the synergy steering linkage system on my 2003 this weekend and got to the pitman arm and couldn’t get the damn thing off for nothing. Tried every pitman puller rental in my area but nothing would fit. While I was under there I noticed the gearbox was wet on the bottom and the threads were boogered up so I just decided to order the redhead and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Hope they don’t mind getting a pitman arm with the core.
I think they are the same but not to sure. Seems like mega cab is the one that's always different in most applications. Call the place you're going to order from and they will know the answer to that.
I went with a fox single shock because of the synergy steering set up that I put on as I was doing the steering box upgrade. I put factory shock back on only for video purposes.
Specs should be the same for all 2500s. They're only 3 bolts that hold the gear box on the frame. 4 or 6 bolt is what holds the head on top of the gear box (do not loosen or tighten them bolts.) A 6 bolt is a heavier duty gear box.
The 6 bolt is an upgraded steering box with beefier components internally to handle the load better. The 4 and 6 bolts are referring to the steering box cover (the red cover in the video), not the 3 mounting bolts to the frame. Hope that helps!
I have a 2016 ram 2500 with a Cummins and the steering wheel had what I refer to as kick back. Doesn’t matter if I’m driving or sitting still. If I turn the wheel in either direction it’s got this kicking action like it’s forcing my wheel to the opposite way of the steering and then comes back shin. Would that be a gear box issue or a power steering pump?
Sticking valve in the gear box will cause this. Hydrobooster can cause it too. If you're not having problems with your breaks which works off the hydrobooster as well then I would start with the gear box. Don't be disappointed if a gear box doesn't fix it. People have been chasing this problem with no luck but a gearbox has fixed it on 2 trucks that I know of. The dealership will tell you it's normal. They just don't want to fool with it. Good luck brother.
I ordered forged rotating assembly back in October and they have to make the connecting rods. Last time I spoke to them they said it will be mid June when they will have it ready to ship out. My machine guy can't bore the block until then.
Can you help me determine what the "mustard like" thick slimy material is on the ground under the hood of my car? You seem so smart and could help a female like me who does not know cars

This was extremely helpful as I’m about to install a red head steering box on my truck🤘

If I get slop I will be upgrading to the 6 bolt myself
Awesome video sir, thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks and you're welcome.
Great video! Thank you
Welcome brother.
Thank you.
Man I did this but went with a PSC gear box. Great product. I read bad reviews on red head not holding up on their warranty.
Is PSE a good one?

If the redhead doesn't hold up I will be trying out the one you guys are running
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 I put one in my LBZ Duramax and i loved it. Great video by the way 👍🏻
Thanks brother
Excellent video! Thanks so much. What year is the truck? I don't know which “gen” goes to which year models.
Its 2008

They shouldn't mind.
Is there a way to center the gearbox after it is installed. Factory did not center it.
Hows the product
Tighter box company good
Not sure yet. Waiting on the last of my steering parts to get here before I drive it.
I wonder if a 5500 is pretty much the same. I gotta do it on my work truck today. Wish me luck
Not sure but good luck
05 dodge 2500? Same procedure?
great job thank you. so i wonder if the dodge mega cab 2500 with the 5.7 gas engine would be the same as your diesel. do you by any chance??
I think they are the same but not to sure. Seems like mega cab is the one that's always different in most applications. Call the place you're going to order from and they will know the answer to that.
hi yeah its pretty much same. sorry i got to ask did you have to lift the truck up to do this job?@@isolateddieselperformance3261
is this the same instructions for a 2015 4th gen
Yes
Yep
I notice you don't have the dual shock steering stabilizer on anymore what happen if you don't mind me asking.
I went with a fox single shock because of the synergy steering set up that I put on as I was doing the steering box upgrade. I put factory shock back on only for video purposes.
I meant is there any spec differences between diesel/gas on 2500's?

Whats with 6 bolts and 4 bolts? I thought there's only 3 main mount bolts? Plz clarify. Great video. Not a talk fest like the others

when will you do part two on the mustang

Do you have to get an alignment after install?
No you don't.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 thank you so much for the response! About to tackle this job this weekend. How’s the redhead holding up ??
So far so good. Hope it continues to do good. Dang things are expensive

I told you not to be looking under a chevy anymore. Dodge dosen't have that problem

That puller should not be used for this job , it could shatter always use glasses , autozone loan a tool the hd puller
If its cheap made it can shatter. You're correct about safety glasses. You should always wear them if you're under any vehicle.
