Sorry, but I think you lose too much square footage by raising the floor too high. If you are not going to insulate the floor, why raise it. Also, you could have done a slope into this room to manage the transition. But I'm just a couch carpenter, lol...

Square footage is two dimensional so there's no square footage lost no matter how high they made the floor.
