    I still use my Olympia, had it tuned up and a new motor installed by Electrolux back in the early 90's. I just now replaced one motor bearing and the brushes still had lots of life left in them. I also replaced the cord winder that was not an original Electrolux part as they are obsolete. You can't beat the quality of the old original Electrolux vacuums.
    Did you know that Electrolux made the electric motors for our WW2 bombers!

    Actually, this cleaner is Marquise model 1521; about a decade newer than the Super J 1401. The nice thing about American Electrolux is that the general design stayed the same from the non-automatic Model E in 1954 to the automatic E in 1956 and so on till the 1521s. The plastic Canadian-designed models were similar but had different components. Thanks for the tutorial.

    I've got my Electrolux Silverado Deluxe for thirty years this month. I've never had a problem with it but I maintain it fastidiously. The Marquis had just come out and I was able to get a new in box deal on it and I compared the two I decided on the Silverado because I preferred and trusted the rocker switch more and it's grey I liked better. Heavy as an ocean but built like a truck. The synthetic bags are great but negates the automatic bag shut off.

    Hey. Great video..thanks. I have a electro lux t401 super j and the other day turned it on and making noise like bad motor bearing. I use Electrolux bags but to lazy to buy new bags when full so I clean out full bags and reuse them! Not a good idea cause the tape came undone and think dirt got into motor and the front bearing went south. Your video shows cleaning and switch repair. Great so now I know how to get into the machine. Thanks. Ever do a motor rebuild? This machine was bought for like 20 bucks but is in great physical condition worked great until my bag repairs! Wonder if you have info on motor rebuilding. I've done ac condenser motors and had good luck there. Biggest problem was getting bearing off shaft. Then I finally just cut it off with diamond Dremel wheel. I'm an electronic tech. Your soldering iron is very old school! Love it! I have one also.. flux and cleaning copper connections really makes job go alot smoother. I have a Weller 325 watt gun that I use for every thing. Works great and 15 bucks used on ebay. I put the iron to rest but use it on the water pipes when they leak! Lol. Have a great day and keep up the great videos. Mike retz

    The parts distributors that call any Electrolux cleaner a "Super J" just show their ignorance. Anyway here's a list of Electrolux's Model 1521 labels by year & color I found online: Diamond Jubilee, 1984-87, sand & jade; Marquise, 1987-88, sand & taupe; Grand Marquise, 1988-89, lt. sand gray & navy; Legacy, 1989-90, lt. sand gray & navy; Ultralux, 1990-91, lt. sand gray & navy; Ultralux LX, 1991-92; lt. sand gray & navy; Ultralux Classic, 1992-93, navy & lt. sand gray (reversed colors). Regarding the failure of the automatic shut-off the typical culprit is a plugged nipple (on which the hose is secured), which is easily unclogged using a stripped wire twist tie. I always treat every customer's cleaner the same as far as repairs go, and I like trying to get everything in working order unless specifically told not to do so.

    Thanx so much for this. I have a late 1960s (likely 1968 or so) and I needed to Repair and Re-Screw the Handle back on... and it looks like yours has the same 3 Screws. So I think I can fix mine.
    And by the way, mine still works GREAT!

    Just purchased 100 carbon brushes for the super J to silverado machines so many customers want to keep their machines running. Back ordered till June from Essco.

    My grandma still has her Silverado from the early '80s. It is fairly rough but not as bad as this one. Her power nozzle died a long time ago and she now only uses it on her upstairs Berber carpeting with the bare floor attachment. I have a Royal 4700 that my other grandma gave me about 10 years ago that I love and have restored to like new condition. I recently got a new Kirby Avalir but honestly from the little I've used it so far I think I like the Royal a lot better. Hopefully I'll get used to it and like it more, I haven't used an upright for years. I really wish the Kirby wheels didn't leave tracks though as I don't like them. My Royal made the carpet look smooth and clean, I just don't care to see a lot of lines (personal preference). I recently got new carpeting with a pretty thick face weight and it was just to hard to push my Royal's power nozzle on it. If I cut the motor power about 50% it was okay but I really prefer to have full power.

    I think that Aerus should change the name of their floorcare division to Aerulux and emulate their earlier American Electrolux nameplate symbol. No one knows who they are anymore.

    These are great machines when they where taken care of. I have yet to see one locally anyway that was serviced ever along with they always look like they went through a Tornado (Even though one would survive a hurricane and tornado). The one I had looked like it went through many warranty repairs with the last being sometime in the mid 70s. Along with seeming like that was probably the last time it had even been serviced. They do take a beating and keep going though they do last! I've came across a few more in thrift stores that usually have the bag check switch broken almost always, not sure how easy that would be to repair.

      I wont destroy anything of that vintage again, even though I see them almost every day go to the dump before anyone can get there hands on them. Just the other day there was a nice looking older Kirby sitting at the bottom of bin at the dump with no way to get it out. (While theres another bin to place things that people can come and get for free) I'm not too much into vacuum collecting but do enjoy the repair videos.

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  4 роки тому +1

      If you use a HEPA bag and have a new vacuum it would definitely help. But the years of dust leaking into that machine probably can never be cleaned out all the way.

    • @MrDuncl
      @MrDuncl 5 років тому +1

      I guess the UK equivalent would be something like the 302. Before globalisation Electrolux cleaners for the UK were made here. I have just repaired one (broken mains cable) that has been in the family since being bought new in the 1970s. It was in the 1976 Argos catalogue at £35. According to the Bank of England that is the equivalent of £250 in 2018.

    • @PerformanceReviews

      Generally the hoses dry rot on these so check the suction at the base of the machine with the hose off

    • @MICHGO1
      @MICHGO1 6 років тому +2

      PUT YOUR HAND OVER THE SUCTION PORT AND SEE IF THE SUCTION IS STRONG. GET A NEW HOSE FROM AERUS. A NEW HOSE CAN REJUVENATE AN OLD ELECTROLUX LIKE NOTHING CAN. MY 38 YR OLD OLYMPIA ONE WORKS LIKE NEW NOW. THE "CLOTH" HOSES LEAKED THE NEW VINYL HOSES WILL LAST LONGER.

    • @andrewcolsen
      @andrewcolsen 4 роки тому +2

      MICHGO1 You don’t need to buy a hose from Aerus and spend a ton of money. They make generic vinyl hoses for those machines that work just as well and don’t cost the mark up that Aerus puts on them.

      No motor with brushes will be "clean". The carbon dust from the brushes must go somewhere. I get why folks go with a central vac. If a central exhausts everything to the outdoors, then no carbon dust indoors. I can't do a central vac, but I do run my furnance fan 24x7 with a high MERV filter. The other way to get rid of carbon dust is to go brushless. I wouldn't trust any indoor vac just because it has an exhaust filter. An exhaust filter would have to be MERV rated down to the PM of carbon dust, etc. Lots of studies on MERV media around, and they aren't very efficient until >MERV 12. A high MERV like 13+ on exhaust plus a HEPA filter on intake would probably smother these motors to death. Oh well. I'm thinking of fabbing a MERV 7 onto my Electrolux's top exhaust just to cut down on the carbon. These old brush machines are dirty but I just luv that they won't die!
