    I don’t know how I missed this video before, but I just did the 8 hr Glacier Express with my hubby and our tour group at the first of October. Beautiful weather!! It was unseasonably warm. It was part of the EF Switzerland by Train tour. Bucket list memory for sure, but I agree, Judy, 8 hours was a long time. The food on the train was really good. The tour’s itinerary had us stay 2 nights in Zermatt and 2 nights in St. Moritz as well as stops in Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, and Interlaken. For people who don’t like to plan the small details (like me and the hubby), it’s a great option. I would love to see 🇨🇭in the snow!

      How cool, Tanya! We would have enjoyed touring those towns. Zermatt was very cool and we could have used at least an extra day there. I wouldn't like touring in the snow, but I would have liked to have ridden the train and seen some nice fluffy white powder. We were disappointed that our travel afterwards didn't give us any extra time to explore, but we already had a scheduled time in Schengen and we needed to be sure not to overstay. Sounds like you had a great experience! -Judy

    What wonderful trip. There are a few other similar train rides in Northern Europe. But I don't think they have the same type of expansive views. 🤔
    Glad you pointed this video out.👍

      We had a series of challenges due to poor planning surrounding this excursion and learned a lot of lessons. It worked out fine for us eventually, but we definitely had some learnings! Glad you enjoyed it! We might also recommend the Bernina Express. We didn't go on it, but it's a more affordable option that still will have really nice views! -Judy

    Loved this episode. Like Kevin, we wanted to see it too, but we prioritised seeing family in Normandy instead. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your adventures😂
    I noticed on the photos during your new intro, places that I haven’t seen videos on yet. Does this mean that they’re coming soon, or that I just missed them?

    • @FindingGinaMarie

      Hi Dan, We have pictures from San Francisco, Greece, Venice, Luxor, Verona, Cyprus, Cairo, Edinburgh, Rome, Broughty Ferry, Cyprus, Luxor, Cairo, Verona, Broughty Ferry, Napoli, Athens, Meteora, Verona. We should have videos of all of these places, so if there's an episode you missed, you can find it in our playlist. It's probably time up to update this yet again with some new photos!
      Prioritizing time with family was the right move. The Glacier Express/Switzerland aren't going anywhere, but you never know what will happen with family. So glad you visited Normandy, and now you have our video to help you plan an eventual trip on the Glacier Express. Thanks so much for watching! -Judy

      Hi Merrill, As of 2023, the Bernina Express upgraded its windows to panoramic ones, so it could be a solid alternative to the Glacier Express. Food is less upscale because there's only a snack trolley, but you still are able to bring a picnic and even wine onboard. Even the regional trains will give you good views, and the benefit of them is that the windows open, so if you are trying to take photos, you can poke your camera out the window-please use a wrist strap so you don't lose it!. The Bernina Express still is a two-part ticketing system, but a first-class ticket and seat reservation are around $167 US. Here's a link to an interesting article if the Glacier Express is outside of your budget. olliechinny.com/bernina-express-review/. Thanks for watching! -Judy

      How fun for you, Avia! We hope you have great weather and beautiful views! Our experience only was with the Glacier Express, but we know a few things about the Bernina Express. Not sure whether any of this is new information to you though. The BE is only four hours versus the GE, which is eight hours, assuming you stay on for the entire time. The GE also is a bit more upscale in its food and has full-service dining, while BE only has a trolly (no restaurant). Here's a link to an article that gives you a good comparison so you're more prepared: findingalexx.com/bernina-express-vs-glacier-express/. Switzerland is expensive, so plan for that. Fortunately, Chur is a bit cheaper than the main start/stop locations for the BE (although Zermatt is absolutely lovely and worth seeing if you end up exploring more of Switzerland).
      I'm not sure if BE works the same as GE, but we needed to buy a ticket for the train AND a separate reservation for the seat (and since we booked in advance, we had to buy them separately a month apart because they seat reservations open up sooner than train ticket options). -Judy

    This may be a crazy question, but I am looking to go to Switzerland in October for approximately four nights. How would you recommend doing this trip meaning flying into and taking the train and then getting back to our destination should we fly into Zürich after Switzerland we’re going to take the train or a flight to London, so I’m not sure what to do after this train ride

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi @compassionatecaramel, first of all, I would strongly suggest you look to see if you can get tickets on The Glacier Express since October looks like it may already be full/filling up on the dates you want to travel. Geneva or Zurich both are access points to a train to Zermatt, which is a great starting point for the Glacier Express, but if you aren't interested in spending any time in France, then a r/t flight from Zurich is going to be more convenient for you. Does this help answer your question? -Judy

    • @CompassionateCaramel
      @CompassionateCaramel 3 місяці тому +1

      @@FindingGinaMarie Thanks! It looks like there are no tickets available for October 18, only up to October 11. Maybe we will plan it next year my husband wanted to do the train ride. Do you have any recommendations? We are traveling to London for a concert, but I wanted to squeeze in another place that was convenient. We have been to London, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Germany, so I was trying to find a place we could visit for 4 days and then head over to London.

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  3 місяці тому +2

      The Bernina Express might be worth exploring. It's a bit of a faster train, but that will give you more time to spend in one of the cities on one end or another. The other options you might want to consider are Vienna (which has a rich musical heritage), Lisbon, or Barcelona. We have a video from Barcelona coming out in two weeks.
      Also, I realized my note mistakenly presumed you were going straight in and out of the route of the Glacier Express. Here's something else to consider if your husband would like to enjoy some Swiss trains:
      Day 1: Arrive in Lucerne, explore the old town, Chapel Bridge, Lion Monument. Spend the night
      Day 2: Travel to Interlaken in the morning, enjoy the scenic views, and consider an adventure activity. Hiking may be possible and the Harder Kulm viewpoint is supposed to be beautiful.
      Day 3: Take a day trip to Grindelwald, explore the village and surrounding nature.
      Day 4: Journey to Zermatt, take in the views of the Matterhorn, and explore the village before heading back.

  • @tastesandtravelsnounee
    @tastesandtravelsnounee 7 місяців тому

    Thank you for posting this! I am very confused with having to buy seats first then buying the train tickets. Are you able to do this at the same time?

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  7 місяців тому

      Hi Nounee, the problem is that you can buy seat assignments three months in advance of your travel date (and because your ideal seat assignment can be hard to get, especially if you are like us and wanted a 1:1 seating arrangement), you will want to book those as soon as you're exactly three months from your departure date.
      Train tickets don't open up until two months before your departure date. The positive thing about this is that you can technically buy tickets the same day as your departure. We actually got ours onsite the day before departure, but really doing it in advance and having them early gives you more peace of mind.
      So in theory you can purchase them at the same time, but waiting an entire month until both seats and the train tickets are both available is a very risky move for something as popular as the Glacier Express. Thanks for watching and very happy to answer any other questions you may have. -Judy

    I have a general question for you. Other UA-cam videos that include the public at large have peoples’ faces blurred out. Is there a particular reason for this, and is this an issue that you had to confront at any point? (And, BTW, this video is simply gorgeous!)

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi Scott, it's mostly to be respectful. Generally, when you’re filming in a public place, it's perfectly acceptable to capture people and show them without blurring faces, so long as your videos are noncommercial in nature (meaning we aren't using someone to sell something, and if so, we'd need to compensate them). If someone were to ask us specifically to blur their face, we absolutely would, or try to avoid using that footage. We try not to film kids from the front when possible as well.
      Thanks so much for the compliment and for watching. We appreciate you! -Judy
