I watch because i had a brother named Jamal. Passed in 2010. He was a black rocker as well who was damn good at playing guitar. He could have been famous.
The G.O.A.T!!! Saw him in 85. I had been playing for 7 years and I would go to the Charlotte Coliseum with my binoculars to learn everybody's tricks. Yngwie made me put the specs down and just enjoy his masterful playing style. My Son met him when we went to a NAMM show in Anaheim. Totally classy guy. Spoke with Jr. like they were friends. My Son was just 18 and gave Yngwie one of his CD's. He said thank you very much and said not many people give him their original music. We saw him again last year and he is just as amazing as always. Small crowd but he put on a performance for Madison Square Garden. Like I said. THE GOAT!!!
I’ve been listening to yngwie since he was in alcatrazz. People think he’s cocky but really he was just extremely confident. A lot of pissed off jealous guitar players at the time. Most who say he plays with no feel can’t play his stuff.
You know what the best part about this is..ive been listening to Yngwie scince mid eighties and at that time the audience was so limited and at that time there wasn't many African Americans listening to stuff like this and I think its awesome that because of the internet everyone can come together and appreciate all genres of music..I love seeing how into you are and the appreciation you had for this...love your videos
My stepbrother (and best friend) died 30 years ago. He ADORED Yngwie and is the one who introduced me to him. Thanks for doing this! Brings back wonderful memories. 💜
Having met him a few times, I csn say that he's not "cold" or has "no personality"... he's just reserved. He does enjoy a laugh, on occasion I liken him (personality only) to my next door neighbor who is a Vietnam vet. He keeps to himself, is reserved, and doesn't wish to deal with most people. He is a fast friend, a loving family man, and tells some of the raunchiest jokes around.... with his friends. Mr. Lannerbach, here, is very similar to my neighbor
I’ve saw Yngwie 4 times over the years. First timer was with the AWESOME Joe Lynn Turner on vocals and that was a special almost spiritual night....... I met both Yngwie and Joe after the show and they were both very gracious and spent a bit of time signing things for folks and chatting very polite and friendly. Yngwie is a pretty tall dude too at about 6’4” !!! Great evening topped off with a meet with the modern Mozart himself ! The other three were just as brilliant and one in particular on the Eclipse tour I took my copy of the guitar transcription book for that album with me to get it personalised which Yngwie did and the most awesome part was that there were 2 minor errors on the first print and he went direct to the pages and wrote it out as it should be in the space above the printed area on both pages ..... I was gobsmacked at this. I’d also interviewed the support act who were a Swiss act called China earlier in the day on their tour bus. I’d taken my friend Greg along to the show as I’d recently got him into Yngwie. Greg & I met at bandcamp (how appropriate !!) this was back home in Scotland and the show was in our capital city Edinburgh at the 3000 seat Playhouse which was sold out surprisingly enough !!! I remember Greg being totally speechless for the entire show and for about an hour or two after it and the first thing he said was thanks and a massive hug, then “WTF DID I JUST SEE ?????” I knew he was hooked from then on..... we lived in the same town so I managed to give him a full education on Yngwie after that as I did have the full collection including his Alcatrazz stuff he did before going solo. I have to admit that I looked up the setlist for that night and it was as follows (Jamel, this is also a great set list for you to react to as you get to them too.) Set list including encore Liar Making Love I'll See the Light Tonight Bedroom Eyes Déjà Vu You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget Judas Icarus' Dream Suite Op.4 Dreaming (Tell Me) Queen in Love Keyboard Solo Crystal Ball Guitar Solo The Story of Mary Save Our Love Heaven Tonight Demon Driver Black Star Spanish Castle Magic
Yes great reaction dude! Aside from his incredible fretwork, the most amazing thing to me about Yngwie is his scalloped fretboards. The fretboard is actually scalloped out between the frets so that the slightest extra pressure from his fingers will result in a note that is sharp. He does not have the benefit of perfect pitch that comes from a standard fretboard. He must apply just the right amount of finger pressure to get those notes on pitch. His control, his intonation is unparalleled. Too much man, just too fucking much. Ynwie fucking Malmsteen, that's who.
The negative feedback that Yngwie's gotten over the years was never really about his playing style-it was about his personality; how he got along with people. It's been said, for quite some time, that he was very arrogant and not friendly at all. Apparently that was indeed the case from his own testimony in his biography. But it was fueled by a lot of crap he had to deal with (managers, ex-wife, record companies stealing from him and not allowing him to produce his music the way he wanted to). He went bankrupt twice because of corporate theft which motivated him even more to become independent. Long story short-he's much more humble today than ever before. Unfortunately, the caliber of his music has gone down tremendously over recent years; production, song arrangements, writing... just utter trash today. I couldn't even get through his latest album, Blue Lighting, before hitting stop and I haven't gotten back to it since March 2019. Listen, no king rules forever but props go where they're due. He broke down musical barriers and paved the road for Neo-Classical Rock guitar. Not one headbanger knew what was an arpeggio before Malmsteen ascended the throne. He changed the game much like Edward Van Halen did before him, and Jimi Hendrix before him. There have been many legendary guitarists in between who "played" the game exceptionally well, but they didn't "CHANGE" it. Yngwie's one of those few. Love the channel! Peace.
What most don't realize as well, is that while most kids were out learning how to socialize with each other, he was inside sitting by his Sister mimicking with his guitar what She was playing for her Classical studies on the piano. He is a True Virtuoso!
Very true words I tried to listen to blue lightning but just couldn't get through it some of those songs are classic blues song and in my opinion he destroyed them. His music has been trash for quite some time now
i would change the tag ''Neo-classical-rock'' wich is spot on, to shred, no shredder would be doing them thing if not for malmsteen, we got glances at blackmore, hendrix and van halen, but shred comes directly from mr malsmsteen.
This is one of the guitar gods. Absolutely one of the best ever. In our lifetime for sure. He's up there with Al Di Meola which I think is the best guitarist, but that's just me. Just listen and watch him play. This is getting close to as good as it gets.

I don't know how I missed you putting this up. It just popped up for me today. When Yngwie debuted I was learning to play keyboard and drums but wished soooooo much I could play guitar. A couple of friends told me that a kid our age was burning up the scene. They introduced me to Steeler and Alcatrazz, two bands Yngwie stole the show in at just 15-17 years old. I fell in love with his guitar playing that day. Here it is almost 40 years later and I still love his music. When someone tells me they think he plays without feeling I just point them to Serenade by Steeler, Kree Nakoorie from Alcatrazz or the title track from Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force's CD Dragonfly. They're some of the pieces you can hear his talent's range in and in the performances from back in the day it's obvious how much love he had for playing/performing.
Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen are the three guitarists who expanded the meaning of playing guitar. They might not be the best but they all have changed guitar playing significantly during their lifetimes that will be felt forever.
I've watched him since he came over from Sweden and started with the band Steeler, then Alcatraz and on to Rising Force til he went with his own name. His Auto-biography was a great read. I've read it several times. Thanks for the reviews of Yngwie. Much appreciated.
Saw him play at The Bayou up in Georgetown DC back in the 90s. Awesome memory. Was very lucky I got a guitar pick that Malmsteen handed while playing on stage. Guy's peerless.
When I saw Yngwie perform Far Beyond the Sun live I was completely moved. I teared up its was so intense. I had never heard the song like that before. I think my girl was nice enough to pretend she didn’t notice the tears lol.
Pleased to see you doing Malmsteen. Hardly anybody reacts to him. I've been through your library and did not see any Judas Priest, the METAL GODS or DIO (Ronnie James Dio, Rainbow, Black Sabbath & solo). A decade later and we all still sadly miss him deeply RIP RJD. Judas Priest - Painkiller. The ultimate heavy metal song. That's what metal is suppose to sound like. DIO - A Light In The Black, Don't Talk To Strangers, Heaven and Hell, Shame On The Night. Hell, anything related with Ronnie. Not Stargazer. Everybody reacts to fucken Stargazer.
Rammstein - Deutschland The video is awesome! An artistic interpretation of the history of Germany. Thanks for this reaction, I haven’t listened to Yngwie in years!

Your a delight. I always enjoy your reaction and thoughts of the many groups/artists I’ve enjoy over the years. One really gets the appreciation you have for music. Thanks again and keep em’ coming.
I watch because i had a brother named Jamal. Passed in 2010. He was a black rocker as well who was damn good at playing guitar. He could have been famous.
Absolutely agree! Much love!!
My favorite reaction channel.
Such immense talent on the guitar I couldn't comment on his personality part from he looks very serious
Yngwie is the OG of shredding. It doesn`t matter what haters have to say, it`s just FACTS
I love my brother Jamal, when he paused it at 41 seconds.he was already getting the beginning stages of STINKFACE MAXIMUS !LOL
Love him or hate him, he wrote this when he was 15
Good lord! We are not worthy....
^
This is Adagio of Albinoni. He wrote it some century ago....
69 thumbs up. Nice
Lol I actually said yes when you asked if you pronounced his name right.
and i nod, like he can see me? lol
Haha yup
WMR Photography: Me too.
Jamel's face said it all.. haha So dig your reactions man.
Yngwie the fuckin' Malmsteen blows my mind the first time I heard it. Even now I can't get over it
So glad Ive had the opportunity to see him live. Amazing!!
This has always been one of my favorites to play , maybe try Eric Johnson, cliffs of Dover , another fantastic song!
Love me some Eric Johnson
for me its a meh song, a good one, but ive heard its anightmare for guitarists attemping to get it.
You looked away right as he whipped the guitar around his body @11:02. Good thing, ya might have avoided total brain lock. 🤣
Having met him a few times, I csn say that he's not "cold" or has "no personality"... he's just reserved. He does enjoy a laugh, on occasion
I liken him (personality only) to my next door neighbor who is a Vietnam vet.
I have to admit that I looked up the setlist for that night and it was as follows (Jamel, this is also a great set list for you to react to as you get to them too.)
Set list including encore
Liar
Making Love
I'll See the Light Tonight
Bedroom Eyes
Déjà Vu
You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget
Judas
Icarus' Dream Suite Op.4
Dreaming (Tell Me)
Queen in Love
Keyboard Solo
Crystal Ball
Guitar Solo
The Story of Mary
Save Our Love
Heaven Tonight
Demon Driver
Black Star
Spanish Castle Magic
Peace.
Often imitated, never duplicated
Ray colon you took the exact words from my mouth .. well said my fine sir
Big fan long ago. Still listen to some of his music on the road.
i seen yngwie live at the brisbane conservatorium of music in 2013 absolutley incredible
Uli Jon Roth made the whole Four Season of Vivaldi! Definitely recommend 👍🏼
You should react to Paul Gilbert/Racer X ‘Technical Difficulties’
Or the racer x song YRO...yngwie rip off
Scarified is great too
I was trying to decide between Technical Difficulties or Scarified... hell do both!!
Excellent choice.
"Y.R.O." dude!!!! 😜😂😁😁🤘🤘
--- Or: "Rock It" or "Frenzy"
This is one of the guitar gods. Absolutely one of the best ever. In our lifetime for sure. He's up there with Al Di Meola which I think is the best guitarist, but that's just me. Just listen and watch him play. This is getting close to as good as it gets.
Great performance by Mr.Malmsteen and a great reaction.
Despite his detractors Yngwie is the king.
Oh hell yeah
I wish I could give this comment a thousand likes!
He was always my favorite then I switched to Jeff Loomis
@@nogodsnomasters666 - I bet you Loomis' all time favorite is Yngwie.
If you listen to interviews by Paul Gilbert, Gus G, Loomis, Becker, Michael Romeo, Guthrie Govan, George Bellas, Joe Stump, Tom Hess, Petrucci etc... all roads lead back to Yngwie. He influenced all the top players. He is very highly regarded.
That's why in my opinion he's the king. Cheers
Uli Jon Roth would beg to differ....
a lot of people have said he doesnt put a lot of passion in his music. that hes all about speed and technicality iin his music. ive always liked his music though
Yes, you are pronouncing it correctly!
You did get his first name's pronunciation correct, congratulations.
its a tricki one
Finally
I've watched him since he came over from Sweden and started with the band Steeler, then Alcatraz and on to Rising Force til he went with his own name. His Auto-biography was a great read. I've read it several times. Thanks for the reviews of Yngwie. Much appreciated.
Saw him play at The Bayou up in Georgetown DC back in the 90s. Awesome memory. Was very lucky I got a guitar pick that Malmsteen handed while playing on stage. Guy's peerless.
Parliament Funkadelic-“Maggot Brain”
Awwwwww yeah🤘
hell yes, we definitely need some funk up in here
Funkadelic Maggot Brain is how it's listed on UA-cam
Make my Funk the P-funk!
Keith Torrie just seen that reaction on “twinsthenewtrend” channel
George Clinton!!!
One of the greatest guitar players of all time!!!!
Jack Torrance ...not quite
@@Luka-zi9kv - if he ain't, he's close. He's certainly in the discussion.
A good first time reaction. I've heard people tell me the same thing but you nailed it he does have personally and you nailed it good job.
When I saw Yngwie perform Far Beyond the Sun live I was completely moved. I teared up its was so intense. I had never heard the song like that before. I think my girl was nice enough to pretend she didn’t notice the tears lol.
Anything from Tony MacAlpine - Maximum Security please, one of the greatest guitar albums of all time.
Tony is also a virtuoso pianist. For a while he played guitar and keys in Steve Vai's band. That band was talent overload.
@@Easy_Skanking Tony is ridiculously talented. Loved watching him play with Steve Vai.
Tony Mac's my favorite of all the Shrapnel label era shredders. Vinnie Moore's Mind's Eye album is a gem as well though.
The two songs on Maximum Security that have George Lynch are a couple of my faves
MacAlpine is a fake. His studio playing is just post processed.
Great artist (have a picture with him and me) and great reaction. Keep it up buddy!
Rammstein - Deutschland
The video is awesome! An artistic interpretation of the history of Germany.
Thanks for this reaction, I haven’t listened to Yngwie in years!
You need to react to Buckethead. He is a monster
You my friend have just witnessed guitar virtuosity. There was Eddie Van Halen. Then came Randy Rhoads and then came Yngwie Malmsteen... everybody else Is just waiting in line.
Debatable?
Check out Allan Holdsworth who was active long before these guys, then come back to this conversation.
@@bawjawblast7530 Slow Down slow down there was Al Di Meola there was McLaughlin and of course there was Holdsworth I'm talking about hard rock metal World maybe I should have been more specific
ELITE COMBAT FITNESS CENTRAL Holdsworth is an admitted influence of EVH, so I don’t think that you can completely separate them by genre. I’m sure some of the same guys were listening to Dimeola, Stern, and McLaughlin too...and do not let me forget Jeff Beck
@@bawjawblast7530 Jeff Beck...just one note,and you know...
Wow Jamal, thanks for posting this video my bro, he is so amazing, I would love to see this live.
He is a Guitar Master . Even his blues will knock your teeth out! He does not try to be mainstream , like Vai and the others.
Oh yea! Check out Vinnie moore and Tony Macalpine!
+1
preach !!! Throw in some Greg Howe for good measure too ;)
I still have all those old Shrapnel records LP's.
vinnie moore's maze or morning star are jewels
Elias Mina my favorite of his right now is “Soul Caravan” it’s magnificent but my classic fav has to be “As Time Slips By” so gawwwdamn good !!!!
Try you don't remember I'll never forget. By yngwie
I wish I could experience Yngwie Malmsteen for the first time again
Icarus Dream Suite (opus 4) always gives me chills.
People who say "Yngwie has no emotion" are usually guitar players who don't practice.
Ynywie is cool, he's a cocky guy, sure, but that's understandable considering his playing, he's so quick and clean it's ridiculous haha
That's not why he's cocky. He dealt with a lot of shit in his personal and professional life. Not an excuse of course but I think it's his defense mechanism.
Jamel I get a kick out of your reactions. You are the best at what you do.
This is Yngwie’s comfort zone. He was trained in classical music and that is his first love. Becoming a rock guitarist was inevitable due to his talent but he’s a Mozart Vivaldi Beethoven head!
I would like to see your reaction to Unleash The Archers - Awakening
Already done
Eric Johnson Cliffs of Dover
Especially the Austin City Limits version.
Best guitar player!!! Period!!!
I've watched several of your videos.. you definitely give a unique enthusiasm and passion, showing the talent behind each of these artists.
