- POV Test ride and review of the 2016 Harley Davidson Softail Slim S cruiser motorcycle. I ride the bike through the city and give my thoughts and impressions on how it rides. This is a special edition from Harley with it's military paint job and black accents.
From Harley's website: "The Screamin’ Eagle® Air-Cooled, Twin Cam 110B™ engine in the Softail® Slim® S model is built to deliver awesome power and a smooth ride at the same time.The factory-installed next-generation security system features a hands-free fob that automatically arms and disarms the vehicle's electronic security functions as you approach and walk away from the bike.The front brake system on the Softail® models this year delivers a 40 percent reduction in the amount of lever force required at peak braking. You get blacked out styling details. Black brake levers, clutch assemblies. mirrors, triple clamp and handlebar clamp. Even the headlamp trim ring is black."

just got back from the dealership they have the same exact one. after watching your vid, I'm picking it up tomorrow!!!!
Should have used the heal toe shifter, you wouldn’t have to kick up a gear everytime. The heal shifter makes the shifting easier, quicker and it’s way shorter to kick. But those floorboards need to go, forward controls are the way to go because the Softail Slim is so low that any twisty roads you’re on you just constantly scrape the boards and it gets really old really fasts. But I love the Slim, they look and ride so nice!

Thinking about getting one soon. Been watching and reading reviews, all I have yet to do is test ride. Currently on a sportster so I feel the street bob is too similar. Did you scrap the floorboards when turning? Or did you only notice them when accelerating from a stop?

I wanted one until I went on the highway on ramp and couldn't lean the bike over far enough to make the curve.

I have a friend looking at a used one for her. It sits low enough that she can flat foot both feet. She likes that.
This bike doesn’t feel heavy at all, but it’s well over 700 pounds! It’s just balanced very well!
Do you know anything about turning radius for this bike? I was watching a video where they were saying the floor boards would scrape at times...
I own this bike myself, and the turn radius is a bit difficult with the floorboards. You can't make aggressive turns, nor can you lean too much. I'd prefer pegs, but haven't gotten around to finding out if they can be removed and swapped safely.

Would this be a decent starter bike? I'm looking at this or a Ninja 300. I'm really leaning toward a cruiser though

I bought a halrey 48 sportster 1200 and the only thing I hate about it is its not stable on the highway around 75 with other traffic and wind.

Nice review. Will you do a review of the Fat Boy S next? There are no review on UA-cam about that beautiful bike.
The dealers don't have the Fat Boy S for demo, probably because it is too similar to the Softail Slim S. The Softail Slim S and the Fat Boy S have the same engine so they would be similar in power delivery. The Fat Boy S is heavier and about $1200 more than the Softail Slim S.
is it ok if it was my first bike to ride?
Any problems with the lean angle? Ive heard people complian about scraping the floor boards a lot on the slim.
Not during this city ride. I could see the floorboards scraping under high speed turns like canyons or hard city riding.
+Jacob James ive been riding mine in England for 12 months now, Its scrapes the footboards for fun but i just use that as a guide for the amount of lean i have. but it is soooo much fun to ride.
mark oneill thanks for calling them foot boards. That's what the motor company calls them. Not floor boards for all the other people calling them that.
The boards scrape way too early. I love the look of the bike and the test ride ruined it for me. If they bring this back with the new softails, I might have to go for it.
where is the shock absorber located? The bikes a work of art
These year softails still had the dual shocks under the bike.

Good job. Someone said the heat from the motor coming up the front of the seat was bad. Do you think that's true?
Could be. But if I didn't mention it, then it wasn't on my mind. Which means for me, the heat wasn't a problem. The weather was pretty cool that day so that helped.

+Ron Woodkenzy I prefer power more over torque because I just don't like how you get passed by the majority of cars on freeways

Would you recommend it for a first bike?
It was my legit first actual bike in my name. I've ridden hondas, and a couple dirtbikes. This thing is a fucking beast. I love it though. Haven't had any problems so far, other than staying off the throttle.

Does this bike ride better to the Breakout?
I've owned a 2014 Breakout and now a 2018 Breakout. I also just bought this same Softail Slim S. The ride is different than the Breakout. I love my Breakout, but I really enjoy riding the Slim too. Not better or worse, just different.

I think I liked the Dark Horse a little better but they are very similar bikes.

Harley designed this bike specifically after the WWll Army Service bikes. So yea Olive or OD Green is Army green. I am retired Army and also work for Harley so i see these beauties daily and It even has the Army Star on the tank lol.
the throttle has to be touchy, reason : to pull you out of a cats ass. lol

All4onegamer Sportster 883 or 1200 would be better for beginners than this bike.
