    Back in the saddle again! A little bit rough on this one as it has been a while since a review due to "things," but it is good to be back! The Softail Slim S is a classic looking boulevard cruiser blacked out and given Harley's biggest Twin Cam engine, the mighty 110B engine usually reserved for the CVO line. It is a fun bike! Here are the specs:
    2017 Harley Davidson Softail Slim S
    MSRP $18,999
    Engine Twin Cam Air Cooled 110CI (1800CC) B Engine
    HP 83 TQ 109 Ft-Lb
    Weight 712 Lbs running order
    Seat Height
    4 Piston single disk front and 2 piston single disk rear
    24 degree right lean angle and 24.9 degree left

    That's interesting - I hadn't heard anyone mention a power loss of the counter-balanced engine. That's what I love about your reviews; you're very observant and point out things other reviewers don't notice. In every video, you always provide a little nugget of knowledge. I look forward to your Low Rider S review.

      Thanks for the long term support! The Low Rider S has landed as well already.

      And if it's possible, can you do a review of the new Street Rod 750. As you were a long time Sportster rider, you're the perfect reviewer to compare.

      I really wanted to about two weeks ago as the demo truck came to the dealer I was working at during that time, but they would not allow us to touch the demo bikes. So that was kind of a bummer. When we get one in I know they will let me take one out where I am now to do a review, so I am pumped, but have to wait. I did have a friend ride the Street Rod as he came down, but he was not thrilled with it, but then again he has only known an 1100 VStar cruiser with the +1 frame and floorboard style setup, so having a taller and higher revving bike he was not used to may have been the trigger.

      Yeah, I just finished watching it. You're giving Matt Laidlaw a run for his money. Haha Ride safe, bud

      Yeah, that is definitely an apple and orange comparison. But hey, at least H-D dealerships allow a test ride. I was a bit amazed to find out recently that the Japanese dealerships still don't allow anyone to take there bikes for a spin. I mean, even a Ferrari dealership will let you test drive one their vehicles (once you pass a credit check). Thanks again for the review.

    Just bought one a few days back did not test ride did not have to just knew from videos and spec I had to have it. Now got two of my best bikes. The LowriderS with the screaming eagle 110. Plus the slimS now love it so much can not keep me off of it. Been looking for one for a few years and a 2017 came in so no one else had a chance it was mine. 😊thanks for the great video my friend

      I'm probably too heavy for the stock seat and that could be why.

  • @saddle8bag

    Never was a big fan of the rubber mounted shaking. First time I demo'd a Fatboy it was a revelation. I don't care for the look of the Fatboy, but I really liked how it rode...until I changed direction. Way too little ground clearance. I agree that it did feel nimble and solid. Don't know why Harley can't put the floorboards on these up at the same height they put them on the tourers.
    Also not clear to me why I want my $20k bike to look like Army fatigues. If I'm spending Harley money, I want deep rich paint, and chrome plating.

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  7 років тому +3

      Because 110, not necessarily the Army fatigues :) I like the way it looks this way though, I would immediately add distressed leather seat and saddlebags to finish off the look. But I agree that there are some bikes right there that are near the same money (the Road King being exactly the same money for example), that does take some of this bike's business away. But for some it comes pre-blacked out and the 110 would cover up some of the engine work some do right off the bat anyways and it would be near the same money once more. So there is pros and cons to this setup to someone looking to make it custom.

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag 7 років тому

      The Fatboy I rode was just a 103. It would hang with the touring Twinkies with the Rushmore engine upgrades. Of course it weighs considerably less. I suspect the 110 would be real nice in a Softie.
      Pricing is crazy at Harley. I for the life of me can't figure how they can charge more for a Deluxe than they do for a Heritage which is essentially a Deluxe with bags and a windshield.
      I happen to like the Deluxe handlebars, fender trim, and floorboards better on the Deluxe, but can't believe they cost Harley any more to produce than those parts on the Heritage.
      Be interesting to see what they do with the Softies now that the M8 is out. Not sure if it's smooth enough to bolt directly to the frame. Might have to counterbalance that one too.

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  7 років тому +1

      saddlebag I wonder the very same thing regarding the Deluxe and Heritage, and Deluxe and Road King for that matter since they're only $500 apart. There are some that are priced to make sense for sure, but some that are way out there. Same thing in the auto world happens as they have stripped down vehicles that cost more than their brothers but are only more because they're special editions or something like that... just happens

    I have never ridden a bike before, but I am confident I will be good, going to be signing up for classes next week so i can start riding for the summer, this is the bike I dreamed of having for so long now, is it a good beginner bike? I'm 5'9 200 lbs lean muscle if that has anything to do with it lol

      This is a short bike and a decently potent machine. The power is controllable and easy to handle. Weight wise it will be okay. So I would say go for it, just take it easy at first.

      It would not be a bad place to start at all. Fairly light, power is delivered with balance, low to the ground. For what it is the Slim is on the lighter side for a big cruiser. Only thing would be it does touch down to the ground quickly so those first few scrape sounds may make your heart fall out for a moment.

    Been riding this bike for 6 years now. Two things I ditched from the get go. First the seat, it is horrible. Harley could have put a much better seat on this bike. Second, I love ape hangers. Just my personal preference. If you want to put bags on it you will need to move your turn signals. That said, this bike runs like a raped ape. Very agile and I have taken long trips on this bike once I changed that awful seat. For a shorter guy it fits me like a glove. It will always turn heads.
