    My son bought a ‘99 Nissan Silvia which had a tinted windscreen. It was a factory option in Japan. Unfortunately to be registered in Queensland he was told he had to replace it. He was devastated when they broke it trying to remove it. The front windows and windscreen were very dark. Even though the privacy glass has some protection, tinting certainly helps almost eliminate the uv. At least your kids, pets and fabric are going to be protected so well worth it.

    What he said there 1:55 isn't true. The back privacy glass is UV and IR rated 91.4%UV, 89.8%IR protection machine measured. You've seen this with my Facebook post Tom when you asked for reference few months back. Not sure why you didn't correct him on this.

    • @jonpaxman

      I'm pretty sure I saw someone on Facebook (it might have been you) who posted a photo of the privacy glass being tested to demonstrate exactly this point.

      @@jonpaxman That was me. I went to a highly recommended tint shop in Melb and was surprised when the tint shop owner told me i didn't really need to tint the back so i shared the reading with the community. People where getting ripped with dodgy tint shops recommending them to tint the glass roof as well.

      I recall your post from FB but I must admit at the time of filming, I thought the UV/IR protection from your pic was in reference to the front windows hence why I didn’t question the rears (my error). Also Nick has been in the game a long time so I defer to his opinion … perhaps not all Seals have the same glass spec either? 🤔
      Addit: Also I wonder also if Nick wanted the rears’ UV/IR to be closer to 99% rather than factory spec as measured in your post? Will have to seek clarification

      @@LudicrousFeed humm ok. i did specifically mention the back privacy glass and nothing about the front in my FB post. As per the time stamp 1:55 he did clearly say it's got no UV/IR on the privacy glass. Maybe he just assumed it's got 0 protection.

      Hi bro, I am from Indonesia and my BYD Seal is coming next month. So, I don't need to tint the roof glass? I am planning to tint it so it can block out heat and UV much better because it's super hot here.. What do you think?

  • @GolLeeMe
    @GolLeeMe Місяць тому +1

    Looks like a great job. I am in two minds over tinting though. I really do not like the idea of a glass tint to the driver or passengers windows for safety reasons. I never have done and I never will. I ascribe to the markets that prohibited this from being installed. What I do like is reducing IR and UV, and if it’s possible to cut these using clear tint, then I might be persuaded. The idea that a tint can effectively reduce heat gain though is problematic IMO. Thermal mass could overcome any coated thickness and re-radiate heat in line with the laws of thermodynamics. Yes, there is reflection of heat but there is also absorption/conduction, and I believe it is key.

    I have added in the extra tinting to my premium BYD seal as an added option from BYD. Did you do this when purchasing yours? As i was hoping this upgrade woyld bring the front glass up to par with the backs protection.

      Some modern glass technology has inbuilt UV and IR blocking capabilities without affecting visual light much. Tint is extra cost and can get scratched up pretty easily.
