I LOVE Chao. He's such a good character!! And his look is so nostalgic. Reminds me of Once upon a time in China. Hoon Lee is such a fantastic actor. God I love this show.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one! Wiki states that he also graduated from Harvard. Kind of makes you think that acting is his true passion. I guess it's like what they say in Apocalypse Now: ''He could've gone for General (anything), but he went for himself instead.'' Always liked that thought. And it definitely makes me appreciate him more as an actor and human being. Looking forward to the 3rd season. Best of luck to you!
Wow that's cool! Much respect for him and he def stood out in this series. I feel like that quote also relates to what Bruce Lee's message is about when he said "Always be yourself, express yourself, and have faith in yourself...". The showrunners really care about making this right and I appreciate that so much. So excited for Season 3! And thankyou! Same goes to you too! 😀
@@versuful To show that the characters first language isn't english. Only Ah Sahm and Mai Ling speak american english because their grandfather was american. All the other characters speak cantonese. Whenever two chinese characters appear to be speaking in english, they are actually speaking in cantonese. We the audience hear it as english.
Hoon Lee is an immense screen presence. His supporting characters tend to steal the show. He could anchor a series or a movie franchise, and I'd watch it, just to see him work.
1) Wanted to keep up his tough image. Caring for a daughter conflicts that 2) He realizes his line of work is dangerous, and would prefer to keep her out of it
@@tmmnago2722 yep, he even explains it out loud at some point. She can pass for white. He doesn't want her to be treated as second class or worse because her father is Chinese.
Guy is a good actor. I love the show but tbh lots of the actors aren’t the best, but Chao, Bill, and Lee are legit great actors. Ah Sam is not bad too tbh along with Penny and maybe Ah Toy. I love that scene with Ah Sahm at end of season 1.

Why do they put on the Chinese accent, when they speak to the Americans?

Because of xenophobia and racism. Interracial relationships were frowned upon and even interracial marriage was complicated during that time period.
