Robert was a helluva talent. A really great guy to listen to some interviews with. He was a guy who had a real picture of the music he liked and what he wanted to create. He had lots of varied material.

This was 1987 and Mr. Brown was 55 years old there. At the end of the song when they went into that riff that was from Mr. Brown’s 1964 hit OUT OF SIGHT. And of course the song they sang was Mr. Brown’s 1965 big hit I GOT YOU (I FEEL GOOD). Mr. Brown has been my favorite artist since 1968 when I was 12 years old. I have all of his albums and 45s I saw I had been concert about 100 times, I met him a few times. So I would love for you to Have reactions to some more of his stuff. Robert Palmer stay with him during the performance.
I used to play in a soul band with a horn section and we used to do this arrangement where I Got You (I Feel Good) segues into Out Of Sight and the grows lapped it up every single time. Such a great vibe.
Great stuff gents. I have just had a little Robert Palmer jag myself recently. What a voice he had, a bit like a cross between Paul Rodgers and early Rod Stewart. There is a clip of Palmer duetting with Stewart and they sound good together but you get the feeling Palmer would sound good with anyone. His peak for me remains his brilliant cover of Moon Martin's 'Bad Case of Lovin You'.
Speaking of duets, James Brown's with Pavarotti doing 'It's a Man's World' is an all time internet classic.
I remember buying "Clues" after seeing a performance of "Johnny & Mary" on the Kenny Everett Video Show & was blown away. And even though the album is short at about 30 mins, it's a great piece of 1980.
I love Robert Palmer - he seemed to reinvent himself yet maintained a sound that was sexy and soulful.
He was smooth and talented as hell.

If I recall correctly, in the live video for Looking For Clues some wag wrote that they scanned the barcode on his shirt and the computer registered the result as ‘smooth’.

My absolutely favorite Robert Palmer solo tunes was/is "Every Kind of People". But remember his stint with Power Station? Rocked really good.
Definitely. Bang A Gong and Some Like It Hot! were superb bits of 80s pop. So polished yet with a hard/funky edge.
This was the first clip that I saw of him ❤. So good to see it again. He could definitely put a cool video together, but loved his vocal ability more than

Love Robert Palmer! He has maybe the most impressive triple play song compilation from his "Sneaking Through the Alley with Sally" LP where the combination of Sailin Shoes, Sneaking Through the Alley with Sally & Hey Julia are just perfection. This was before Addicted to Love put him over the top. If there is a live version of that triple play, you need to review it.

I miss my Robert Palmer blues album, with this one and another favourite of mine was Woke up laughing. Had to sell it cos I was skint at the time and never remembered to replace it.
Don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that James Brown's first bass player (known as Bubba) got the sack for getting more attention than him, lol.
And Australia's band the angels got the sack from being his support band, because they were too popular.😅

Oh, absolutely. Robert definitely grew up on James and a whole host of Motown and blues.
He had his own style of blue-eyed soul, but he would have been relishing every moment of sharing the stage with James.

Looking For Clues remains my favorite Robert Palmer song. Man, I also forgot how hot Palmer was.
Check Robert Palmer out with his band Vinegar Joe - some good stuff... 'Proud To Be' and Never Met A Dog' are pretty good.
If you want a jittery variety +heck out Robert Palmer with Shania Tween found it very interesting.
He did some work with Steely Dan early on, you guys have a great community, I'm sure I've never heard this one before and I grew up duing that era.
Two cracking tracks! Although I prefer Palmer singing Looking for Clues in a lower register, it was still a ripper performance. However, Robert Palmer and James Brown together, it is hard to top that.

Yeah. I love the original too, especially the bass tone, but I love how this live version ramps the energy up.
There was a track a long time back on The Thamesmen where some discussion on live electronic music prompted me to suggest this song and another which showcase live bands performing very highly produced electronic music.
Not everyone who watches this can appreciate it, but it’s remarkable what that backing band was able to crank out live.

That Robert Palmer video is one that's going on a playlist! I never gave Palmer much thought back in the 80s.

@@sean---the-other-one Robert was definitely under rated imo he was a great artist along with a few others really brought the electronic sound in the early 80s coming from listening to 70s rock to this was pretty amazing and awesome.

If you want to go a little farther back in time, Robert Palmer's 1974 album, "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley," has several good tracks -- I particularly like the title track. OMG -- The Thamesmen definitely need to do a James Brown curation!

Alex I was listening to the radio on as I was driving and tried to play humble pie live at the Fillmore instead of Humble the song that popped up was the Hobbit by ten years after a great drum solo that seemed to go on for ever. Was a drum solo always part of a 10 Years After concert?

Went back to the hobbit loved how the guitar and drums played off each other before the drums took off.
Should look at doing a drum solo week. You may have to exclude Neil Pert. Not sure if any drummer except Buddy Ritch could match parts solo at Frankfort.

James Brown was obsessed with his band being tight. You should actually check out the movie based on his life - Get On Up - starring Chadwick Boseman RIP as James Brown. There is no tighter band than that of James Brown. Please do a James Brown week
