    Excellent information for a beginner like me, particularly the target size/distance and how many are likely per layout. Great precis of the rules, much more digestable than the cold legalese you can find for some sports! Thanks, Gary.

    Great and informative video for us complete newbies to HFT!
    My old man needs a mobility scooter to get around, can't kneel down but can stand so Sticks would be ideal for him to get into it too.

    Great video, Gary.
    There may be a commenter here who you sank on the way to your national or world championship titles. 😂
    The introduction of the stick class means I can now compete. 🥳
    Thank you for taking the time.

    You just mentioned the Digi Nite Eye - a Hawke scope almost as old as me and long out of production (also like me). Must be my very weird eyes, but I can see clearly from 45 yards down to 15 - really clear; paint fleck clear. And still able to see an 8 yard kill zone. It's all down to the eyes 🤓

      It does, buddy.
      I’ve just been around a course a number of times over the past couple of weeks and have now joined.
      It’s a change for me from benchrest shooting and I’m loving it.
      I am finding the sticks are quite challenging (lots of pain and shaking due to it) but I’m going to persevere and train.
      Good luck to you, friend, and hope to meet you one day at a comp 😉 👍

    Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I am looking at this type of competition to compete in. I have shot rifles and pistols all my life. I am very interested in a competition where accuracy and precision are combined with camaraderie, and I have always enjoyed shooting springer type rifles. I live in Bakersfield California USA. From the choices of spring power rifle’s I am interested in the Air Arms TX 200 Mk 3 in .22 caliber as I intend to hunt and compete with it. Scope wise I haven’t been able to make a decision yet but I’ll have a budget of around $900,00. It has been my experience that I should spend the most I can afford on the optics especially since I’m in my mid 60s. I plan to order the rifle and scope together with a good set of mounts rated for the abuses of a spring powered rifle. If I can do that I feel comfortable with the choice of kit and should have years of enjoyment and be able to hand it down to one of my grandchildren. Thanks again, Kurt Goss

    Great vid as always Gary. In HFT comps I sometimes see people taking a second shot at a target having missed it the first time ‘just to see what their pellet is doing’ rather than work it out through the subsequent comp shots like the rest of us. Could you mention this in a future video as some people seem unaware that this is technically cheating? Cheers, Matt

    I thought the supported kneeling was a 35mm out to 40 yards, has the new rules reduced this to 35 yards.

    • @garychillingworth

    Pwoarrr .. that scorecard at 8 minutes 40 must have been filmed through a 50mm objective at 8 yards 🤓 Side note, my cheap as Nikko Stirling Panamax 50mm can see stuff at 45 with not much blur, as well as killzones clear enough at 8 .. so not all 50mm have issues, and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg

    The rear paddle information is incorrect, from the flat to the end of the paddle isn't 63mm, its from the flat drawing a line from paddle tip to paddle tip is no more than 63mm.

    I'm keen to know about the pistol grip rule. Isn't the butt of the rifle on the ground a lot more stable than the pistol grip on the ground? I'm aware of the rule, but always wondered why

    • @lankymk
      @lankymk Рік тому +1

      It's more about not allowing anything other than the lower edge of the butt pad to touch the ground not just the grip specifically.
      In the original idea for HFT they didn't want bipods or anything specific to be used off the deck.
      By allowing only the butt to touch the ground that eliminates anything else being used while still allowing some stability (butt on the ground is certainly more stable than shooting from the shoulder)

    • @WallyHale21
      @WallyHale21 Рік тому +1

      @@lankymk Fair enough .. if it were up to me, I'd amend the rule. Of course bipods or other attachments shouldn't be allowed, or hamsters touching ground, but a pistol grip is part of the stock, like the butt of the rifle. Some of the extenders and custom butt's that are used are much more of an advantage than the pistol grip touching the ground. People dig them in and all sorts to make it rock solid. I have to squeeze my pinkie finger under the pistol grip on a lot of shots as I use a TDR, and the butt doesn't extend further than the pistol grip 😒

    • @lankymk

      I think there's a few rules (in all sports) that people would change, myself included.

    • @vitopacini
      @vitopacini Рік тому

      @ShootingCountryTV hi Gary, I realise that rules are needed. I shoot 6 yard bell which is not weighed down with rules. Prior to that I shot 10 metre paper which is now inundated with rules. You spend £50 on a glove to find the rules have changed and you can't use it. In the early nineties myself and 2 friends decided to give FT a go. I had a Anschutz 2002 target gun converted to 12 ft lbs by Dave Welham. We turned up at Hilton FT club with our double canvas kackets and shooting gloves. Other competitors looked at us as if we came from another planet. They all had Camo jackets. I notice what we started is now the Norm in FT.
      I've been shooting 61 years and as I get older I want less rules. I await someone who will come up with that discipline. Vito
