  • Famine Pot of Carrownacregg House Galway
A Gastronomy Project in 2018 initiated by Galway Heritage Officer Marie Mannion and Galway Heritage Office along with primary school children this famine pot was discovered. Amy Cosgrove from Menlough National School wrote her project on the famine pot at her family farm.
Amy & her Dad Pat along with the Cosgrove family decided to donate the famine pot to Portumna Workhouse. It took a number of years before it could finally be removed. On the eekend of the 6th & 7th of July 2024 the famine pot finally made its way safely to the workhouse.
This was all done through the Cosgrove family, local volunteers and the workhouse staff.
Thankfully the famine pot will be now safe and available to view at the workhouse museum and to be enjoyed as an attraction by its visitors.
Donations like these are extremely important and with huge heritage value locally and nationally.
Huge thank you to Cosgrove family for this fantastic donation.
