- This siren was installed back in April due to a girl scout's fundraising efforts. More on the story - www.wthr.com/st... This 2001 is located at the Green Township Fire station in northern Hancock county. It's tested every Friday at 11AM.
This tornado siren will not only save your life, but it will also alert any near by Girl Scouts, and you will have a month supply of thin mints.

That’s freaking awesome! 2001s are awesome but the fact that it was put up by a young girl come on that fundraiser made a real difference. We need young people like that. People who are willing to step up and do what needs to be done.

Which is better, a louder, higher pitched 130 or the standard 12-port-sound, softer 130?
+SBS7413Y I haven't really noticed much of a difference, except that the higher pitched 130s appear louder because they're more ear piercing. Performance wise, the lower pitched ones carry better. In my 508 video, you can hear that 2001 wind up but when it reaches its peak the sound fades away because it's too high pitched.

I didn't know they had Girl Scout sirens O-O
Actually this siren was paid by girl scouts after part of the town got destroyed by a tornado. They didn't had any siren before that one. Also FS made a 50% discount for the occasion, you can easily found the news report speaking of that here on UA-cam.

You can’t do that. The siren doesn’t have any speakers, it has a large metal chopper that spins inside a stator and it chops up air and makes the sound.

Of course it has to be a 2001... Why couldn't it be a refurbed thunderbolt 1000T, or a P-50 painted green? Like wtf?
+Fifthcell because the 2001 is still in production and costs less to repair if necessary. A 1000T on a town that already had to save up to buy a siren would be a liability.
+SPCeasfan200 I see what Startug is talking about though, since this siren is currently still in production, the parts for a repair will be much cheaper than ones for an old discontinued siren.
Not to mention that P50s and Thunderbolts don't have the battery backup ability...
And don't get me wrong, I like the Thunderbolt and P-50, but on the city itself, it'd be a heavier liability to own outdated sirens without backup or repairmen. Anyway, the 2001 at this time is a pretty efficient siren.
i actually don't hear about the breaking down of these sirens that frequently, not to mention that the 2001-130s appear to be holding up really well. I can see why an older 2001 would break down - it's OLD.
+Startug The older 2001s used indestructible Warfield motors. The only real problem with 2001s are the 1st generation battery cabinets which were prone to corrosion and leaking. However that's no longer an issue now that they use aluminum cabinets.

2001s suck because they replaced thunderbolts and allertors at my town EDIT I take that back 2001s are very reliable sirens but most people hate them because they replace older sirens and because of their high pitch but I don't mind it.

2001's have 12-port choppers, and are high pitched like in the video, and Equinox's have 8-port choppers and are lower pitched, sounds like a t-128 or 508.
People get mad when I say this but 2001-130's are one of my most favorite sirens, apparently they say "only normal people hate 2001's"
