In this clip, Melle Mel talked about the rise of the "beef era" in hip-hop during the mid 1990s well into the present. Melle Mel said this stems from rappers wanting to emulate street guys which can be traced back to the image adopted by Run DMC. I love this guy. As far as I'm concerned, New York New York is the best rap song ever made. The best, most descriptive, MOST COMPREHENSIBLE lyrics, and one of the baddest, if not THE baddest bass line EVER in any hip hop song, and one of the best bass lines of all time in all music as far as I'm concerned. The rest of the production is stellar as well. Hip hop ended its artistic relevance with Public Enemy. Everything since then is a mess.
