Apple support suggests you can use the same keyboard paired to your mac. It’s a setting you have to enable on your mac. Settings->displays->Advanced “allow your pointer to move between any nearby mac or ipad”
Appreciate the honest assessment! This is their first Gen 1 AVP and I hope it does well. I got a Meta Quest 3 for Christmas and love it. But it can't do what AVP can...
The lack of productivity support is the sole reason why this will flop presently. If and when they can make a multi monitor desktop become obsolete because of the ability to sit at a desk and create a totally insane panaramic multi monitor setup from a single heads up display is without a doubt the day that this can become a top winner. Really appreciate the review here, this answered exactly the question I had. I am a software engineer that uses like 6 monitors to keep up with my daily tasks easier and the vision pro had me interested in the case of replacing that and also switching to mac simply because of this. If and when they support an actual physical keyboard and a desk that I can make dynamically with the vision pro and have a better resolution and display feature that allows you to have auto vision correction for near/far sightedness this will 100% be the thing I buy. until then; nice try apple; not paying 3500 dollars for a novelty.
@@BrentOzarUnlimited I for one would purchase it when I don't need to buy a desktop and a mac book too. Years of moving a mouse forward and backward and in circles has fatigued my shoulder due to the constant repetitive motion.
I thought I had heard on a podcast that universal control worked for sharing the paired Vision Pro keyboard and trackpad with the original Mac. I’m bummed that doesn’t seem to work for you!
I only tried AVP at store. But I believe the keyboard and trackpad connected to the Mac can be used to control VP panes as well. VP has continuity support.
Reminds me of the first gen HoloLens. I used to access SQL server with using remote desktop. Touch and scroll gestures were working ,didnt require a bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Apple vision pro looks much more refined than HoloLens.
Very cool! Huge step up from the Quest for sure! I assume you can get around the multiple keyboard thing by pairing a Logitech MX or something with multiple device capabilities right? If so that may make it more feasible? Thanks for sharing!
But then you'd have to switch the device back and forth every time you wanted to switch windows between the laptop and the Vision Pro's native apps, which blows.
@@BrentOzarUnlimited yeah I can see that! I guess with the MX keys ifs not too bad since they’re just keys above the delete/home keys, but still more cumbersome than normal. I’m sure Apple will come up with a way to switch soon! Cheers!

Hi brent I want to ask somethin’ about using MacBook the person who fond of SQL Server and DBA is it a good or bad thing for daily usage in comparison to windows?
@brentozarunlimited - can you show how you type in a document using a paired keyboard to the Vision Pros? Are you able to move the cursor around quickly using your eyes or do you still need to use trackpad/dictional arrows for large document (ex. Google Docs)
I didn't think of that! I'm actually filming Office Hours in spatial video this week in Telluride as a proof of concept, but I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to distribute it.
2:07. VP supports Universal Control. So you should be able to use the mouse and keyboard you're using to control your Mac to also control the VP. There is tons of video of people doing this. If Universal Control isn't working on your setup, you might want to make sure your Mac is up to date, and that you have it setup correctly.
My guess is that folks are using the wrong strap. I found it to be really comfortable for me with the right light guard and the Dual Loop Band. I've worn it for 2-3 hours at a time.
Basically, you are better off using a remote desktop app than the inbuilt connection mechanism. Obviously, if you run Windows and Linux, that's your only option anyway.
One killer app would be someday there will l likely be ways to visit places around the world. For those that can't afford to travel or don't have the time. You can put those on and visit locations around the world (or simulated places like Tatooine). You can also record your own videos on your iPhone using a special setting on the newer iPhone 15 and playback events in the past like you were there.
I would love to have it as a tool to explain what is going on inside the database engine and what a query plan is doing or as a teaching tool to show the problems of doing a death of a million query statements in a loop is not very optimal to my developers.

It got fixed in the VisionOS 1.1 beta release, which is good.
This is a good addition 👍🏼

Shoutout to SSMS for Microsoft SQL! Recently had to switch to AWS through dataspell. Miss ssms so much!
It's really good, especially for a free product!
just a software update would sort it out, if not then version 2 definitely gonna address it
You can control vision os with the keyboard and mouse that paired with macbook. Like continuity.
That has not been my experience.

With an RDP app, you'd still be confined to a single window, though.
but does it justify the $3500 price tag?
For me, for the other things I use it for, yes - the time travel, theater on the road, and meditation.
