- SIDETRACKED '19 - Cape York, Track III
Remote far north Queensland, the dirt roads get worse and the 4wding gets better! Track III picks up after spending a night at the Lions Den Hotel, south of Cooktown, a quick stop in for a swim at a waterfall freshens everyone up for a long hard drive up the Peninsula Developmental Road to Coen. Another overnight campsite next to a quiet little river before a further 4 hours behind the wheel until Chilli Beach is reached early afternoon. Two warm nights are spent relaxing at Chilli Beach including a 'rest' day, involving no driving at all. From there its time to tackle the Frenchmans Track, one of the top tracks in this part of Australia. A few minor problems while navigating the difficult track is always expected but its nothing to slow the show down. This leaves nothing but four wheel driving ahead of us for a solid couple of days to come!

I’m watching it because there’s a patrol in it. I’m also sick of the 79 series. Overrated and overpriced Toyota junk that require a fortune just to turn them into decent rock climbing trucks and/or overlander vehicles.

Found you guys from Ronny Dahl. Awesome channel. Greetings from the US, got a new sub in me. Love 4wd stuff and you Aussies do it better than anyone else. Completely unrelated but one more reason I love the Aussies, they cook bacon, real bacon and call it bacon too!!!! I warms my cholesterol lined American heart to see pig belly strips fried up and not some stupid slab of ham. Good on you boys, keep it up!
Also wanna comment on how sad it is seeing all the trees dying. I know exactly how that feels. I'm from the rocky mountains in the US. My whole area has been devestated by spruce beetles. Entire swathes of spruce forest have been lost. The beetles are expected to kill upwards of 90% of all the spruce trees in the area. I have seen entire ecosystems change around the dying trees. The forest will recover naturally but it is sad to see for the time being.

In your rig walk-around last week you mentioned the JK is the V6 petrol. Was range an issue for you on the Cape? I couldn’t detect any jerrycans being carried.

@@4bnewb969 It wasnt an due to fuel being available throughout the cape, although i did push the limits when it came to range, I chose to pass on some fuel stops when i probably shouldnt have...
Please explain why Australians seem to prefer dark-coloured trucks - whereas us (non-posing), South Africans know that white is way cooler!;)
I haven't noticed a preference either way outside of this channel. But there's not doubting white is cooler.
My mate was shopping for a dual cab ute. Showed him a published paper on the subject as he was concerned about in-car temps with his young daughter. White and silver cars are on average 7 degrees cooler than black. Makes it a lot easier when starting a drive on those 40 degree days!
