    I was on Fraser last week with my family and friends, and after working on the island for over seven years it still has such a almost magnetic force drawing us back. I was lucky enough to meet my wife on the island whilst working there. It’s a location that’s always high on the list of holiday destinations for us. The beach is cool but for me it’s the solitude of the west coast that a winner. Planning for the next trip has already started.

      Easy, book the necessary park camping and beach driving permits, take over at least a third on top of what fuel you'll need, and water and then it's just a case of taking vehicle spares and food.
      Of course it would be prudent to notify immediate family maybe search and rescue of your intended stops and how long you intend on being and when to send rescue if you're not back by a certain time.
      Last thing is a satellite phone and gps tracking, other than that it's just like going out for a picnic only its a whole world better.

Fuel can be bought on the island.And search and Rescue ? WTF are you talking about there. Maybe stop smoking that weed. It's not that we can't decide rather that both Shauno's & Graham's tour were incredible! We want to see the Lighthouse & the beaches, etc & we want to see inland all the way over to the Western side. So we're picking 2 weeks on the island with 7 days spent each doing both tours! It would be a dream come true for a Canuck couple from Calgary AB. As always, another amazing adventure & absolutely stunning scenery...wicked job done guys, better than TV any day of the week!

    Need to get a winch sponsor so each truck can have one. If planning on deep sand you can also take a 40lb Danforth Anchor to drop down, attach winch to and bingo you are out, you pull anchor back out with winch once up to it. My guess is you have a tire sponsor and that is why you were running those mud tires on some and aggressive all-terrains on the rest. What you want is wide (14"+) and almost bald street tires or bald Super Swampers (big lugs on sides). A flat smooth surface will press on the sand and let the crystals lock together and you just float on the top, deep treads break up the sand and do not allow it to lock together resulting in just digging down. Also, lots of broken shells in the sand and by digging down you are just asking for a sliced sidewall. Decrease tire pressure to 20lbs (like others have mentioned below) to further disperse weight and be light on the throttle or drop to low gear. We have pulled out full size motor homes with just a half ton pickup with wide smooth tires. Thanks for the vid though guys, is fun to watch your adventures.

    By pure sheer luck had the change to visit Frasier Island for a couple of days in 2004 (normally you have to book a long time in advance, but someone canceled their trip). With a rented 4x4 and brand new camping gear, had the time of my life... was just magical driving the beautiful beaches and the gorgeous rain forest, Mohina wreck, Indian head... camping in nature...just freaking awesome... it was definitely not as busy back then tough... even Lake Mckensie was just with a handful of people... Eli creek was empty... there used to be limit to the number of people that were allowed on the island...?!

      Many people disregard it, but the auto market is a huge chunk of money in US at least. Back in the day, people bought foreign cars and the US dealers did not want to compete, so they payed our congress to change the laws to only allow certain imports. Add foreign chicken tax and better of all, not remove it after it is obsolete, and you have tax on foreign pickups. Now, EPA has teamed up not allow diesels. See the drift here? No toyota bulletproof trucks, just american or mexican made crossover garbage that will drop dead in 3 years. its all a scheme. there is no way this is a coincidence.

      yeahp, as an Australian i have spent the last 4 months in America and all i wonder while im here is "where are the diesels?!". everything here is petrol powered, even the UPS delivery vans and school busses. its crazy!

    • @techsupport87
      @techsupport87 6 років тому

      when the petrol is that cheap why would people want small diesels? theres always the big cummins, powerstrokes or duramax's that i wish we had here, duramax swaps on nissan patrols are becoming semi popular but the cost is huge, 20k just for the engine and trans then the cost of fitting

    Very cool video. Nice to see guys enjoy the same type of adventure and outdoors no matter what part of the world you live. Southerners roll like that, and people joke about how we talk as well. Of course, our US laws would probably never allow vehicles to just roam all over like that, unless it is on private property. You guys have some nifty gear and nice setups for camping and cooking. Hi guy's
    I'd like to take my elderly father(fishing addict) Tailor fishing and camping in QLD next winter, of all the islands that are good for tailor which is less crowded during the winter months?

    I understand why you fit these trucks with camping storage and associated stuff, but essentially I’m watching overweight massive trucks getting bogged. Howboot running lighter and getting farther? Like old Shorty. Basically the lardy trailer caused you work and trubble. Fine for easier trail runs but this is just a little wrong.

      There is a bit of a scene in Australia where the man with the most frog shit on his rig wins, its out of control. I understand a bloke with a family might need heaps of gear but for one person its excessive.

    • @user-rt7ig8uy1r
      @user-rt7ig8uy1r 6 років тому +21

      Yeah I don't understand it. They've gotta have the latest whiz bang gear that costs the most. Camping is not about how much gear you got. I take as little as possible keeping weight down and there's never been a time where I wish I had sunk tens of thou into camping gear.

      A bit of it is their sponsors product. I agree. Most of the show is winching or recovery

      4WD Action don't only cater to the hardcore enthusiasts among us but also to families that want to experience this beautiful country of ours. Hence why they take camper trailers and a bunch of other gear causing bogging issues due to weight.
      Take the winching and recovery scenes as education, alot of the time they explain what they are doing with the winch or snatch strap.
      If you look past the problems you have sighted about this channel and view with more of an open mind you can enjoy it so much more and learn important 4wd skills

    Don't be rushed by the seller and don't look at a vehicle in the dark, You wont be noticing smoke in the dark. Also, make sure it comes with a roadworthy. If it doesn't you can run out of time to get things fixed and end up having to tow it to repairers.

      @@lachlanreese3628 One of those was mine, a few years back. We went all the way up to Orchid Beach, all the inland tracks round the back of Happy Valley, Lake Mackenzie, down past Boomanjin, all over the shop. Had a small lift with some taller springs and a skidplate under the sump (standard was plastic and would rip straight off once you hit the sand), auto MY03 Forester with some half decent tyres, no turbo.
      He's right, the things weigh all of 1500kg and just float across the sand. We saw a lot of very surprised faces on those trips :)

    Anyone that's driven a log skidder knows the obvious bit of kit to put on a truck pulling a trailer in that sort of sand ... A winch with a nice long kevlar rope on it ... after watching a couple of these I am getting keen to pimp the old R51 up a bit :-)

    No beach fires anymore and too expensive to camp and have to book online even when your on the island,also the ranger telling my 8 year old son off for gathering a handfull of small thin twigs for 1 of the only fire rings at waddy point.Another great place wrecked through bureaucracy,rules and power trippers

      Not being allowed to have camp fires in most national parks because it “destroys the home’s of animals” Bush fire rips through and because ground cover is not cleared it destroys animals and their homes, Kinda ironic

    Looking at this video and there is are some wonderful spots on both the trips and one cannot choose between the other as they are both spectacular - but in my books, I would rather go Shauno's route as you won't have the crowds. Hopefully one day I would be fortunate to travel and see this wonderful area that you have on your back door. Cheers guys for your regular updates.

    Gday guys, awesome video, Fraser is one of my fav destinations, we go over in our boat from Hervey Bay, most weekends.....but word of warning be mindful that March flies are out and about from November to March, when we went last march they were so big and the bite is painful and itchy, there were literally swarms of them, every time we opened the car door, a swarm would hitch a ride.....but saying that, on the west side its just the most beautiful part of Fraser, we head to wathumba, great for snorkelling and the water is sooooo clear....sorry rambling bit, but just love Fraser......
