If you're new here welcome! My name is Laura Mullen Vermilye and I am an iron casting metal artist. Being a cast iron artist is an interesting - and at times tough journey, but the rewards far exceed all challenges. While working with cast iron to create my art I am exposed to an amazing community of artists who are as dedicated and passionate as I am. The cast iron art culture is a major influence in my life and on my work and I want to share this artistic adventure with anyone who is interested in seeing hard working people make amazing art with a hot and dangerous material. To do this, I make vlog style videos on this channel that chronicle the artwork that I am currently making and my journeys in Metalsmithing and iron casting. In between casting and metal art videos you may also see some behind the scenes footage of me roaming around the heart of the Midwest and the Ozarks. Thank you to all you folks that are as interested in my small metal project as you are in my cast iron art! Thanks for tunin' in, and as always - I love you.

This vise is perfect, don't worry about the things that are not up to someone else's standards. You created this beautiful silver vise and it's magnificent. I love you too.❤😊

Admitting the mistakes and little bit of self critique is a healthy path to improvement.
    You did good!

Thank you thank you thank you so much for sharing your worries, anxiety, and self-criticism in this series. I’m no metalsmith (dabble in sewing) but knowing I am not alone in struggling with perfectionism helps more than you think.

It's a handmade functional vice. It looks great and actually works. The tiny imperfections are just what gives it character... That's the art of it

Laura. The vice looks great. We are our own worst critics. Don't beat yourself over small things. You did a great job.

It is GREAT and the little thing or only give it character. I turn wood bowels and give them away so I understand your feeling there. It was very nice to meet you at the USM iron pour.

Love to watch you work. The vice is amazing, good work, what you pointed out just shows that it was really hand made. Keep up the good work!

Beautiful and reflects hard work and dedication. If you ever do another, you might think about a bolt down base for a micro work bench.

A stunning job as usual Laura. You need to give yourself more credit. GREAT JOB. Now, what are you going to do for NEXT year? SO far away....well, no. :)
Looking forward to the next project!

The first things any good machinist does with his vise is whack it with a hammer and put some dents somewhere, and bend the handle. Mandatory.
This looks hand-made. Any closer to "perfect", or any farther from it, seems wrong.

Sterling work Laura - you are a perfectionist, but that vice carries your dna and is wonderful because of the things you point out aren't perfect!

Bravo what a beautiful piece I’m sure Jason will be very proud. I’m surprised he hasn’t contacted you to commission one for himself.
I just have to say it again well-done bravo, my friend
