- Hay On Wye, Wales - the world's first book town!
Population: 2,000
Bookstores: 25
Aka heaven on earth. Walking around here, my first thought was - how soon can I move here? Although I'm not sure my bank balance would be in favour of the move.
Hay On Wye also hosts Hay Festival every summer, bringing authors, readers and reviewers to the small Welsh village to annually celebrate everything bookish.
Luckily for me, my boyfriend's hometown is a 40 minute drive from Hay On Wye, so we may be going back to Wales more often in the future.
We managed to visit 11 bookstores during our few hours in the small town, but there are around 25 bookstores in total and maps are available in almost all bookstores.
Happy browsing!

Just shared this from Hastings Michigan ❤ great video and I subscribed. ❤
thank you so much for watching and subscribing 💘
Looks nice and great video :)
Since this is like a specialist town known for its book shops, how do the prices (on second hand/ collectors books) compare to elsewhere?
thank you! prices for second-hand books are really reasonable. Since there are so many stores in the area they need to be competitive so don't increase prices, since you'd just go elsewhere to purchase. Very cool to visit the specialist bookstores in the area and prices are the same as the RRP on the back (Murder & Mayhem, Gay on Wye etc.).
Hey, this is on my bucket list to visit...just wondering are there any hotels, restaurants cafes also in Hay?
hey! I think there are guest houses/airbnbs in the area more-so than hotels. But there are definitely cafes and restaurants - we ate in The Cosy Cafe for breakfast/lunch which was lovely! x
