Amazingly filmed. Thanks so much for keeping the awesome videos coming lately, Nick. The motivation and inspiration has been through the roof for me. In my opinion you're the very best running channel on UA-cam. Big success is coming your way for sure.
I break down my 10K's by 1-5-3-1. First km I try to get into my target pace (I usually start way to slowly), afterwards until 5-6km I maintain the pace, then at 6-9 I start trying to up my pace and at 1 km I go all out
Inspirational, I’m from SA living in Sweden now, took up running 8 months ago, lost 42kgs and ran my first marathon a few weeks back with the Stockholm marathon. Seeing what you can do just pushes me more! Great job !
Good to see you at a local race, I was there too. One of my slowest times there but I just wasn’t feeling it that night and the conditions were not on our side. Still to come,e 6th with a bad race is great for me, onwards and up. I’ve got a marathon soon, so no leg speed for the shorter stuff yet. Adam Tango, had to run to Thruxton as his lift fell though, that’s about 8 miles to get there, one heck of a warm up 😂. Hope to see you at more local races and I might even say hi next time, as I didn’t want to seem like a super fan or some weirdo 😂.
Your great to watch mate. Ive been running for 10 months as i lost 50 kgs over 9 months. Couldnt even run for a minute. 10 months in got a 19:17 parkrun. 42 years old trying to push. Your videos are awesome information.
@@Spudsmachenzie1 slowly increasing from 2km up to 10km ,slower pace during the week. All out on Saturday parkrun. Running now 6 days a week Not much sprint training yet.
Ahhhh Nick! Just went out to do a half marathon pace test, was really happy with my time but wondered why Strava was congratulating me on a 20k PB and not the half…. I only went and ran 21.0 and forgot the 21.1. Needless to say the 1:36 will not be counting to my half PB. You ever done that before? Ran 100’m short 😅
Aaah bugger, sorry to hear but some good motivation for next time. My PB’s will all be on official signed off courses. But sometimes Strava is slightly out, usually a tiny bit over distance
Thanks for another quality video. For me, I break a 10km into 5km - 2.5km - 2.5km intervals. Start out in Z2/3 and then increase my effort and pace at each interval to achieve a negative split.
How you can run at that heart rate for so long is beyond me. Always thought it was easy for you and then it turns out you’re just a machine. Good to know 👌
My best effort at a 10k so far is one hour. I'm new to it. Well done on your speedy 10k 🎉. I just go at comfortable pace for 10 km... I manage a 5 km in 28 mins so not much slower on my 10k. Normally a 5 km runner so the extra 5 km is a bonus. Next to build to half marathon. I cycled length of a marathon today. Crazy to think of running it.
Well done Nick. Operation Speed helped me . When you started it in May I also started it in my mind and it was so great to get lots of PBs up to marathon level.
Great running and effort at the end Nick to break 32! Strong running to get past Alan Tango Holland, he's a top athlete from 5k to multi marathon events 👏
Last two 10ks I have used 3k / 5k / 2k breakdowns. That opening 3k is crucial, and even slightly going too hard in that section can result in having to dial back in the 5k section, so you can push for the last 2k. But I race with power as my primary metric, and don't really look at pacing until afterwards. Which can result in some wildly different KM pacing due to elevation and headwind changes. But really provides a much better mechanism for quantifying your effort when your personal RPE isn't perfectly dialed in. Congrats on the sub 32, you executed very well early and made the right move at the right time.
Amazing race Nick i have seen Adam tango before he’s incredible when I had first started running my dad was doing a 24 hour ultra race and he was there i remember him talking to me as I tryed my hardest to get up that hill 😂 he asked if it was my first time and I said yes he was on about lap 10 of the course witch was 10k per lap equinox 24hours
I usually break it into 3-4-3. First 3k smooth and controlled, and like you say not too fast. Solid consistent goal pace over the tough middle ones, then kick down slightly from 7k onwards if able to.
Good video Nick, the race POVs with just the sound makes me wanna race! When youre in speed training mode, how often will you race 5ks (or race in general)? Is there such a thing as doing too many races in a time frame for you because of the load it puts on your body?
Yes you can definitely do too many races but I’m looking to race about 4-5 shorter races in the space of 6 weeks. Quite nice to recovery quickly from the shorter distance races 👌🏻
Great video loved all the angles, do you think you will try to break 30 for the 10k and 14 for the 5k would love to see some progression videos to those times smashing run as always !
I have not run many 10k's. I break them down 7-2-1 Seven km run at my 10k race pace. 2km half way there psychologically, this is going to hurt, block off the demons 1 km hold on till the end
I go out full pelt and lead the race for as long as I can before the wheels come off...... However this weekend at Gloster Ill reign it in and see what happens.
I'd kill for a sunny 20 celcius, most of my day runs are 35 celcius and above unfortunately, but i'm also not an elite runner! I can imagine the preferences change quite a bit as the talent gets sharper.
It’s funny I do the same thing on every race I break them down into just manageable distances if I’m doing 100 mile ultra I break those down into 25 mile runs when I do a 5K is 51K runs 10 case the same thing half marathon, a marathon happened in a while, but yeah, those are doing the same thing I just as long as I can break them down my mind can only focus on OK I just gotta do another one K before I count again And that helps everybody says wow hundred mile races say next to a five fast 5K or easy it is funny I did that I was running a few marathons and I ran my first 50 K and I didn’t worry about time or anything and I was shocked how easy the 50 K was on my bodyand I never looked back. Enjoy your videos. I love this channel.
Bossed this Nick! I’ve been looking into the go3 for a while and will end up buying one eventually I think? How easy is it to use and get the GPS interface on the video as you have it displayed? When I get one I’ll use the link 🫡

Why does every white dude from SA flee the country as soon as they can?
I ran that race too. Found conditions really tough. The last lap was all about survival for me so well done maintaining an insane pace Nick!

Thanks champ 🙌🏻 glad you’re enjoying them and I have some epic races lined up. 🤞🏻
Well done nick, sup 32 in those conditions is pretty impressive.
Thanks, at the half way point I thought it was well and truly on the cards. But as we know, in this sport, things get real in the second half!!
I would need an e-bike to go sub 32 in any conditions!
Brilliant run Nick, thanks for bringing us all along on the ride!

Finally released a running simulator - RUN 2K24. There are excellent graphics, realistic physics - it’s clear that the developers did their best. :)

For sure, I couldn’t see a total time metric for this one but there must be.
Not bad for a 12 year smoker. One might even say fantastic. 3:12 pace: maybe that extra 12 seconds per kilometer is all due to 12 years of smoking. :)
