There is a lot of toxic wildfire smoke in Bend. We have accepted poor air quality as the new norm. We also suffer through days when the level of smoke is considered hazardous. Healthcare is lacking in Bend. People often drive to Portland to find a doctor. There is only one hospital in Bend which serves the entire Deschutes county. There is also a shortage of mental health providers. I agree with tourism being awful here and the traffic congestion in the summer is challenging. Tourists are loving this landscape to death. I think it's sad that there are only about 32% of local (born in Central Oregon) residents left due to the lack of affordable housing and financially sustainable careers that could support the outrageous rent and housing costs.
My earliest memories of Bend is John Wayne at the Pine Tavern. '74? Took a Sunday break from a movie set. Logs in the river @ the Mill. No parkway...just N & S thru 3rd St.
How's the homeless problem? I'm an Oregon Marine Corps veteran looking to move back to bend but Oregon in general seems to have gone downhill while I was away serving. Is Bend another victim or is there hope still for the old Bend to make a comeback?
That's funny you ask we just talked about that in our latest Livestream video here is the link. ua-cam.com/users/liveznjyGCHthOI It's getting better but I'd honestly say there's still work to do. Old Bend? nah... not the way it was 20 years ago when i moved here... but its still pretty great.

You must have said it like it is. 😏
My biggest complaint is the food. There are restaurants all over town, but most of them aren't very good.
What are your favorites?
Very true!

Wow! That's pretty cool.

For me, it's the lack of great Indian and Chinese food.
I'll agree to that!
You forgot to mention the Blue Bikes!! Makes our town look so trashy!! 😂
Haha. Oh yeah, I did forget those. I actually get a kick outta where people leave them.
How about the DMV and the wait trying to get a doctor's appointment? Those are things I've encountered lately.
Well, isn't EVERY DMV that way?
@@KrommRealEstateIn my experience, our DMV is considerably better than DMVs in the unnamed state to the south.
🤣
