Starting To Look Up

- The old boys used to say that the trout season doesn’t really start until the Hawthorn are in flower.
Early April it was looking like an early spring with green shoots and daffodils showing.
Then came the east winds and slowed everything down.
Finally in early May it looked like nature wasn’t going to wait any more and the Hawthorne started to flower.
I fished a local stream on the Westcountry Angling Passport

Excellent video mate. Very nice place
Cheers! It is a lovley stress, and pretty close to home.
Hopefully I'll get back there when the Mayfly are about.
Have to be honest, your videos are great. I wish you could produce longer ones. Id happily sit and watch a video like this for an hour.
Thank You Carl, there might well be longer ones in the future.
superb
Very informative - thanks
Thank You Paul, glad it was helpful.
Nice little film and loved the Tree Creeper.
Thank You Paul. I was pleased to get that shot, those things don't sit still for long!
Marvellous 👍
Well done! Very skilful and stealthy fishing.
Very much like the lower "clay vale" reaches of my own suburban stream, only quieter and rural! Good to see the dries getting a swim too. Its all to come, especially the next few weeks 😊
Thank You. Must admit I was a bit suprised with how well teh fish were taking the dries, usually it seems to take a little while for them to switch on.
Hi Luke, great to see another video and love your stream, in mid wales hatches meagre and scarce with rising fish even more scarce so not into full swing just yet, out of interest what size tippet are you using , ATB mike
Hopefully I'll get up to Wales in a couple of weeks, with a bit of luck it will be starting to move then.
It usually seems a couple of weeks later than Cornwall.
I was using a 3 pound tippet, just a standard momo (Drennan Sub-surface green) which is my go to tippet.
Nice to see you back on the river Luke. A slow start for most of us I suspect, but hopes are high for the future. Thank you
Thank You Peter. It was good to get out, even better to find that teh fish were active and in good shape.
I think things are starting to move now. There were a few Black Knat about which is usually that start of the "good fishing"
Lovely stretch of water 👍
Nicely done Luke, rising fish have been in short supply so far this season, perhaps things are picking up?
I agree, early April was looking promising but the last few weeks have been very slow! Looks like things are warming up now though.
Thank Chris, it had been slow here, but things are certianly getting going now.
It seemed like the fish were actually moving to the fly, before if it wasn't on their nose they weren' interested.
Love your videos. You can’t beat fly fishing on a small stream, all the best for the rest of the season.
Thank You. Hopefully I'll get out again soon, although we've had some heavy rain here today that might colour the water for a few days. Hope your season goes well.
