I'm 13 hours in, which is a lot for me, especially for a game I only just recently got! Loving the game so far. You and Bahb streaming it convinced me to pull the trigger on it
48hrs for me. This Pokemon game is great. Having a lot more fun with this than Shining Pearl. I hope they release dlc for it with extra locations. There's just so much to do and varied! They've done a great job with this 👏
"Hiding in the grass waiting to catch that pikachu" I absolutely adore that reversal. The grass went from being a dangerous place where pokemon attack you to a safe place to hide before you attack them lol. Thanks Wood! Amazing review as always!
Professor Oak has been telling us for 26 years that the tall grass is dangerous. Clearly this is how the wild Pokemon learned ambush tactics. It's our fault. XD
I am just loving the positive reviews everyone's giving Legends of Arceus. It feels so refreshing that for once a Pokemon game doesn't have to be overly bashed like the last few entries. Sure yes there are some things that can improve, everybody keeps pointing out the graphics but the fact that people can understand and appreciate this fresh take of a Pokemon game really gives me hope for the potential future games.
Agreed. I don't really care about the graphic criticisms when it comes to Pokemon. The pokemon franchise has never cared about having state of the arts graphics. As long as it's not a step backwards, it's all good in my book. Fact is, Legends Arceus is the biggest step forward for the Pokemon franchise and is perhaps the best Pokemon game ever created.
If the main thing one can criticize about a Pokemon game, or any Nintendo game in general for that matter, is the graphics, then that game is doing very much alright. The Switch is an underpowered system but that's just the nature of being a 5-year old handheld, it's natural for Arceus to have crappy graphics. Surely more optimization could be done to make it look better, but I'm glad that they prioritized keeping a consistent frame rate. If they get more people working on optimization, they might produce something closer BotW level in terms of visuals and/or art, but in the current state they're still doing better than the small studio production crap 3D games such as Rune Factory 5. I happened to be having the same kind of feeling as you towards this game, which is "hope". This game feels much more hopeful to play than Sword/Shield. And as someone who is basically the same age as this franchise and grew up playing Pokemon games, I really hope this franchise could survive for much, much longer.
@@bur2576 while I agree that the game probably could have been nice with voice acting since it's never really been done with a Pokemon game I don't really think they would have wanted to add it to a game that they're basically testing the waters with. I would rather voice acting to added to the usual mainstream Pokemon titles that were used to then something that is out of the box because that would be them trying out two new things that they've never done before and who knows maybe adding the voice acting could have potentially made the game worse if it's not the quality that people would have had in mind. So I think it was the safer option exempt voice acting.
I was playing this game and at one point I thought to myself "man this is is fun" and then it hit me: when was the last time I genuinely had fun in a Pokemon game?
Main series, ORAS, Spinoff, Pokken, Fangame/Romhack, constantly. Honestly, around 5 years of things going increasingly downhill, from SM being too handholdy and filled with pointless bloated cutscenes and overall just being OK/Meh, to the point BdSp were laughably atrocious remakes missing loads of content from the original being buggy soulless slogg that added next to nothing new to the game aside from a few minor/easy changes like Fairy types and was gutted of features to the point there was no reusable TMs, No Gamecorner, and no Platinum content. The fact that series was continuing to break new lows for around 3.5 years and everything was looking so tragic and bleak the fact that mere months after rock bottom we got such an absolute magnificent return to form with amazing bounds of improvent to the point that the series is finally great once again and worthy of standing in the same room as RPG greats like MegamiTensei and MonsterHunter once again is crazy. Such an absolute sudden and colossal shift in quality for the better.
@@burhan.k.r.n1164 is this true? If it is, ppl will be disregarding and keep saying it is bad. I guess sales don't really matter to this topic(to them)
@@burhan.k.r.n1164 wait, sales as in including DLC ?? If it does, then that would not be a fair comparison. 1 person(1 game) would technically count as 3 sales if DLC included. Now imagine those who bought both sword and shield.
I think one of my favourite little additions the game doesn’t tell you is that if you throw your Pokémon at each other, they have a little chat! They look at each Pokémon in turn like they’re having a round table discussion and watching my team just chat it up with each other is so satisfying. Imaging the little talks they’re having about hard battles we had, fun encounters we made and the other adventures along the way. I only hope this expands even more as time goes on. I’m hoping that the next games we get are Pokémon Legends: Zygarde since gen 6 hasn’t got any love since its initial release. No sequels. No remakes. Nothing. Pokémon legends could be perfect for Kalos, especially with the lore of the huge battle between AZ and his brother and their armies of Pokémon.
i 100% agree, and i think moving forward all the remakes should be legends games. its such a fantastic concept, just the tip of the iceberg, if you will!
Only thing I wish they had thought about was letting wild encounters fight each other as an AI function for Emerson. Wild monsters don't ever see each other as a threat which felt out of place
I'm sure they will in the future. They didn't know how well it would sell, so now they can put more effort into future titles knowing they'll make a profit.
@@SirSoloSoul yup. this isnt the normal formula that guarentees massive sales. and as seen before just slapping the pokemon name on a game doesnt make it sell. considering this was such a huge revamp of everything its understandable somethings are pretty basic, i.e ai function. they added made catch rates a lot lower, which is nice in some parts
@@SirSoloSoul Maybe in the future we can see more varied types of behaviour from Pokemon. Maybe a bunch of Poochyena might gang up on you instead when you throw a Pokeball on one. Or maybe they might fight each other or accidentally hit one another with different types of moves like Thrash or Outrage.
Just imagine what this could be like in one or two generations. Voice acting, more polished graphics... This could became the Pokemon game of my dreams, existed to see if GameFreak will continue to make these types of Pokemon games, and how they will expand on it
If they didn't do it now with this release, they will never do it. It's 2022 and the graphics are even worse than my 2006 wii games i'm currently playing. If they wanted to hire people that knew how to do 3d, textures, and animation, they simply would've. They're the richest game franchise in the world, everything is purposeful, they are no longer "figuring stuff out".
I don't mind the graphics at all, but voice overs would be a huge improvement. My kids love these games but the walls of text are big hurdles for my youngest two
leave the voice acting out, i like the reading and more kids could use the chance to read considering no one picks up books anymore. It's simple easy but there is a bit much of it in this one. But nah i like the reading aspect of the game then again i was raised on computer games that didn't have visuals. You typed in things like turn left and the screen would tell you your adventure in a text prompt. that was reading, lol.
Arceus was definitely a step in the right direction. I'd like to see some more exploration of ruins and such and some more random villain encounters but I think it's a good start.
they defiantly are in the right direction. dlc may address a few of the issues such as lack of interactions post game, and adding more "bandits" i.e trainer battles. im expecting us to get dlc earlier than they meant to due to the massive success, which could mean them adding more dlc. all things considered arceus is a masterpiece of a pokemon game, in comparison to the past, and it can only go up from here.
@@sweetbabygarf4633 okay.... but why? Would you play a game that is hard to look at, when it looks like a kid scribbled them with paint and no animation would you still play it?
@@simonw.1223 I just don't think the graphics in Arceus are as bad as many are saying. Definitely not great and I'd like them to be better it's just not a deal breaker for me.
I think Legends is the perfect base for the future mainline games. It's already pretty solid. They just need to tweak and improve some things, like Woods mentioned, and I think this could be something very special. On a slightly off topic: Imagine a team of 6 Eeveelutions running after you through town. That'd be bliss.
As an avid Pokémon player from gen 3 on… I completely agree. I’m absolutely in love with this game and I feel like gamefreak has finally given the Pokémon franchise a chance to do itself justice
You mean biased? Its a step back from the original formula. Wrapped in excuses. Graphics are subpar, glitches. Battle system unchanged (even gigantimax added a new dynamic) It had so much potential.. But it fell flat. Dev team explained a lot "held back by the hardware" in the mean time. Modders have already improved the graphics and mechanics without a performance hit. And still no voices.. or anything resembling them. As an OG fan, you should be highly dissapointed that they keep missing the bar. Went so far to basicly create pokemon go "catch catch catch" in an 'open' world but without the gym dynamic or competetive element. Lets hope for the next one...
"Yes, the game isn't at its prettiest, but it is so damn fun that I don't care." This sums up my thoughts, and I believe most people's, on this wonderful experience. Thanks for the excellent review.
This is exactly why GameFreak doesn't even try. Because people will buy it regardless due to the brand. If this was a different franchise, there's no way people would be this chill about it. Like if BotW 2 came out looking like this, fans would burn Nintendo to the ground.
@@AlbertoJMarcano I think GF has a lot of young developers who aren't very experienced with 3D engines and don't want to spend the money to bring in more talent. That said, they did certainly "try" with this game, unless you think "try" just includes graphics. The entire gameplay experience has been turned on its head. As a casual Pokemon fan, I'm pleased with how this game plays. I've loved more graphically impressive titles like Monster Hunter: Rise, but I feel even more addicted to this game. It's not the brand, it's the experience. I don't love this game because the word 'Pokemon' is in the title. I love the game because it's genuinely fun. Try it sometime.
@@AlbertoJMarcano that's because they dug themselves into a hole when you create hits your expected to continue doing that if they didn't make it as good as people say then its wouldn't be expected to be amazing
@@ChampionSushima Well that's because you have low standards... Imagine EA or Ubisoft put out a game looking like this? People would freak, and rightfully so, they're a multimillion dollar company that puts the bare minimum and praised because it's "Pokémon".
I feel the exact same way about the game. Graphically it leaves much to be desired but this is the most fun I’ve had with a Pokémon game in over a decade and I can’t put the game down.
There are a few mechanics they removed from previous generations that I really liked (breeding, being able to equip items, and having abilities) but I could never go back to not being able to sneak up on a pokemon then throw a pokeball at it in the overworld. Yeah, Gyarados has been part flying type for a while now.
@@drnanard9605 he was mono water for a bit due to a glitch in the game, he was part flying but that part never registered, so he got hit by ground moves and was neutral to rock
One of my favorite things in the game is battling on water, it's pretty simple, but instead of having a pokemon just float on water like a Luxray, it gets a little raft/boat thing to stand on, flying types are still doing the flying, which makes sense.
It took me forever to figure out that if you jump with Basculegion and go to aim a thrown item, time slows just like shooting an arrow in BotW. Though I do wish they had carried that over to falling from Braviary, but I'll take what I can get.
for gen9 (or future dlc for this game if possible), I would love if they added this: - ability to ride your own pokemon (if they’re rideable, eg: rapidash, gyarados) - command your pokemon to follow you - battle with 2 pokemons - certain pokemon with high friendship level could automatically shield you while you’re being attacked by wild pokemon - pet your pokemon, play mini games with them and feed them - breeding system - hold item
I really hope they expand on this a lot. There's so much more they could do. Imagine an open world pokemon game with all regions and all pokemon, expanding the mounts concept but make it any pokemon that can use the move, etc. There are so many ideas I have for what they could do to expand on this. It's freaking awesome
Your reviews are always so FUN, like hyping up with a friend... if he could do video editing magic on reality itself while he talks with a musical number suddenly. It's just so nice to hang out in your reviews, even for games I don't play. It's your enthusiasm for everything you're talking about, be it criticism or praise or riffing or everything in between and then some. It really talks to the kid in me who just love playing games I ended up picking.
This really was the most honest game review I’ve ever seen mans started with the bad then the good back to the bad and ended with what game freak brought to the game
I'm so glad you took your time with this video because Legends Arceus deserves that! I feel you showcased exactly what makes this game great and offered fair critique. Because I'm such a huge Pokémon fan and I wanted this experience to be perfect I wish they did include stuff like voice acting and polish things more and take the BOTW (Work on it until it's finished) approach. Also, I don't like the limit in range that the game has for catching Pokémon, I would've loved to throw a PokéBall off a hill and just have it being caught. I hope when they do another Legends style game that you can have a hard mode just like Breath of the Wild has.
It's quite mind blowing how much Pokémon fans are sheep seriously this game is 10 years outdated there is no excuse whatsoever to have a game look like this in 2022 even on The switch you cannot justify it unless you like playing outdated games but you are a bunch of sheep it doesn't even have basic features such as voice acting proper animations I mean come on any normal game has all that in it but because pookemo n fans are sheep they say " well at least they try something new and they're going in the good direction well I'll give it a 10 out of 10" do you actually realise how stupid you sound it is not a fair critic this game is bad do you actually realise how stupid you sound it is not a fair critic this game is bad and outdated !
Hard mode, huh? Like officially? Cause people, just like in other Pokemon games, are still doing Shiny Only or something like 1-Type Only or I've seen it was either RubberRoss or Scott Falco doing a Bidoof Only run on Twitch (i think it was Scott). Don't know quite how you could do a regular Nuzlocke with this game though, still first Pokemon you catch is the one that stays in your Party, any others go to the Pasture and are released... Not sure, I had to do a Box Rearrange cause the usual method of leaving the PC (or Pasture in this case) on a certain box and any new Pokemon caught go to the last one you left it on wasn't working for this game so My Pokemon I Use/Try Out/Work With Box is the last Box and I keep regularly releasing all the extras that I have to catch to either get out of the way or for the Pokedex
My partner and I were discussing the amount of different types of games Arceus has openeded up for pokemon. All I want now is a Stardew Valley/Story of Seasons type game where you build a town, catch pokemon to help improve the town, farm, etc. and have that be the focus
1:50 i just wanted to mention, I'm pretty sure this was intentional bc the opening cutscenes has the player watching chairman rose on a UA-cam-esque video platform, so they had the ending in the same way
Now that I've had chance to play the game and seen what they've done.. I can't wait to see how they progress from here on. I'm very retro and can still sit there and play the really old games for nostalgia purposes, but now this game has me loving Pokemon again. Sorry not sorry I wasn't a huge fan of S&S or the new release of D&P. I hope they're able to get better at the graphics for future games because that would be my ultimate dream 😍
This game its one heck of a huge step into the right direction and now i want to see main line game in this fashion with towns trainer battles and all the tradition game play elements i hope nintendo and game freak can pull that together
24:05 Exactly what I think too, while everyone's speculating about other legends titles I'm hoping this doesn't become a separate "series" but the new mainline from now on instead, so for example in the next game they could take all of this and add the competitive/combat stuff that was excluded from this title.
Normal Pokémon games print money, based on the legends sales numbers, legends games also print money. I think Pokémon Company would like to print as much money as they can, which means both.
@@goobyppg well that is not the game I qsked for imagine a person with 10 and 1000 bucks. The 10 bucks person gives you 5 and the 1000 bucks person gives you 3.... Get my metaphor
100% agree that voice acting should be added now! It feels so weird when there's none but an important scene is happening🥴 Also loving the game though!
I do have to add that voice acting in BotW only was included for the cutscenes, NPCs still only had text boxes. That's not an excuse, just the sad truth of Nintendo-games...
Wood, I gotta say… unlike Pokemon, the presentation of your videos has been on point lately. Your editors are doing excellent work and you have been so energetic and positive on camera the last few months. Keep up the excellent work!
I would love to see an arceus style Pokémon game but with different towns and gym leaders and stuff like that but with arceus style worlds, and more traditional worlds, and trainers dotted around the world as well
Honestly, if Pokémon takes their time and reaches their maximum potential, they could go a long way. If they’re going to try and reach Breath of the Wild levels of Pokémon, they’re going to have to listen to what the people want and take breaks instead of giving birth to new games or remakes every year or two. That being said, PLA just goes to show how far Pokémon can go. This, my friends, is a step in the right direction. I’ve never had so much fun with a Pokémon game. Of course it’s not without its flaws, but I’m proud with the way it’s going
this is why i love his reviews, every praise and criticism is so on point. he speaks out things i didnt know i needed in the game. if i was a developer, i definitely would ask for his advice for any potential improvements i could add in a game i were developing
I'm loving this game so far. Just caught the alpha rapidash and I screamed in victory like a lunatic. It FINALLY feels, like I'm in the pokemon world, with its seamless transitions. Great review man!
hub world is a little far from seamless. After sneaking bait capturing that rapidash, suddenly every other "boss battle" is easier than that first alpha. Every alpha after getting the food bait makes capturing lvl 60+ easy and if it doesnt work just run away and repeat. Man I can't express the excitement of capturing every alpha pokemon with 1 bait and 1 extra heavy ball. This is way more fun then actually finding legendaries in caves!
On the fading to black issue (and this legitimately was the only thing to make me mad while playing the game), the worst part is that they showed they're capable of showing the action taking place. Ignoring pokemon colosseum doing this almost 2 decades ago, there's a scene in game where a dusclops has to actually use a move on food for some reason. I expected a fade to black of course, but it actually showed the dusclops using the move on the food. I thought maybe it was because it was only 1 specific required mon so it wasn't hard to animate, but then as mentioned, gengar taking the growlithe (another scripted event), was a fade to black. They managed to successfully do it 1 total time, which begs the question why they wouldn't do it either every time, or none at all. This is where I believe the issues were seeing are largely time based, not laziness. Laziness means that dusclops scene would have been a fade to black as well, but it WAS animated. I think if this game had another year in the oven, on top of having improved visuals, we very likely would have seen more animated scenes like the water type pokemon hitting sudowoodo with water pulse, gengar stealing growlithe, and more.
I think because the animation for Dusclops was already complete as a battle move, whearas Gengar stealing Growlithe would have to be a new animation. Altogether though the cutscenes were atrocious, lol. And how the only real cutscene clip of you throwing the final bag at the boss was reused for every boss...
They spent a lot of time on new animations for all the pokemon, very obvious from battles alone, so I think you're likely right that they just ran out of time. And GameFreak isn't the biggest game studio out there, either.
I‘d find it a lot better if the characters react if you throw a pokemon on them like in botw when you swing a weapon They could also change the reactions over time when they know the pokemon better
I love this game this was something I dreamed of for years. I have not been able to put it away. And when I look at the community I see a lot of love and that is the feeling pokemon gives and deserves to get
It is an amazing game , I actually couldn’t finish brilliant diamond even though i had never played the original, needed something different and this was the answer , the fact Rowlet is a starter is a big plus for me , grass starters for the win !
Same here, I got like halfway through and got bored because it was so redundant and easy, my friends yelled at me for buying arceus without finishing brilliant diamond, but I got it on Friday and have already played for 20 hours lol
Interessting wood that you are surprised by a flying gyarados, since they are actually Water/Flying types since I think gen 1. It's therefor kinda awesome that GameFreak made them fly around the map 🙌🙌
@FacebookQueen like charizard, gyarados is a false dragon. it looks like a dragon, can learn some dragon moves, but in reality it's just a really big fish.
I had the same reaction to Gyrados. And it's pretty obvious Game Freak put a lot more effort into the mechanics of catching and battling than they did anything else. Which is great, they did it so well that it's easy to look past the game's shortcomings. Like graphics, story, and lifeless NPCs, even if they do all have names now. And voice acting would be good, as long as they don't keep being so repetitive. Do you want to hear someone else say "Kleavor" as much as you said it?
Been playing about 20 hours, can't imagine going back to the old formula tbh, everything is so smooth in this one, it has to become the serie's standards
@@simonw.1223 Because their engine is dated and not suited for open world games. They have to modernise their infrastructure if they continue in that direction, still, the game is great despite the pure technical aspect being mehh
@@simonw.1223 They are not open world. The Game freak engine is well suited for 2.5D styled games, it needs way less ressources than open worlds. And frankly, do you really find Sword and Shield better looking? To some extend maybe, but certainly not masterpieces
You pretty much mentioned everything I love about this game. The catching mechanics, running around while battling it’s so much fun 😂😂 I love watching attacks actually connect
Loved this video wood but would also like to clarify that the “mass outbreaks” do not follow the 1/4096 chance of a shiny, they’ve got a ridiculously high chance of 1/one hundred and something. Sorry to burst your bubble
I started to play it on release day and immediately fell in love. Unfortunately I have to write an exam on Monday and couldn't play more than a few hours, because I had to learn, but playing Pokémon Arceus is the first thing I am going to do after finishing that exam
I'd love a more real world version of this. Where you actually need to explore vast environments to track down specific pokemon rather than seeing them littered around small areas. Tracking them back to nests and capturing them while they're asleep or something as an option.
I'm absolutely loving this game tbh. Been playing it almost nonstop since I got it I already have a few shinies, finished all the quests and working on getting a perfect pokedex.
The duality of your review is I think how everyone feels about the game, and you know, we are still having fun, so honestly, what more can we ask for (besides the obvious)? I'm happy they made a new game that gets the catching and battling mechanic down pat, and I'm even getting used to the graphics! I REALLY love this review though 😅❤️
This was by far the best Pokémon game review as well as the BEST game review I’ve ever seen. Your combination of humor and love to the game is incredible. There wasn’t a minute in this video that I did not like. The video game world thanks you.
I wish there was super like on UA-cam. You joy and enthousiasme speak for itself and made me love the game even more. You are doing an excellent job at giving credit we’re credit is due, keep up the great work and the passion.
So much potential... Remember slashing obstacles away on the Gameboy? What if you could control your pokemons and do it yourself, like when you fly or climb in this game. How about directly controlling the pokemons during the fights (without it being too action-based)?
Now they need to make a game with this formula with the 8 gym leaders and the elite 4. Also a battle arena where you can connect with friends and people online to battle each other. Maybe even a shared zone so you can show off alphas and shinnies. Lastly just include all the Pokémon at least the ones form the first 4 generations.
I NEED MORE! If there's ever another Pokemon Legends game, I hope the setting is a prehistoric themed Hoenn, with more Yokai inspired regional forms. Imagine a giant Omastar boss fight, that would be sick! for the regional starters I'd want Chikorita, Tepig and Popplio. The final battle with Rayquaza itself. I WANT IT! GAME FREAK TAKE NOTES! MY WALLET IT READY!
The Cyline song was a banger!! But seriously I love how you can change a pokemons move set and the circle or triangle symbol during battles that tells you whether the move is effective or not. Also my favourite pokemon Ive come across and evolved is Lopunny
As much as I love this game, I don't know if it will work with a whole new region and gyms. But I guess we'll see if they can do it going forward and I can't wait for gen 9
Imagine if they included the hidden bases in this game, and you could hide them anywhere on the map, and then you have a separate shop and different recipes for furniture and decorations? You could pull a lot from Animal Crossing with something like that.
Great review! I never got to play pokemon games as a kid (we were broke af) but this game feels to me how those games would've felt back then. I'm so excited for what's next!
As an OG Pokémon gamer, I suggest you get the game boy red, blue or yellow version from somewhere. It is important to know where this all started. You will hate it after seeing legends but it would be equal to playing halo infinite as your first halo game and not playing any others.
That Kleavor sequence! I had tears. You hit everything on the head, I love this game, and there's also so much that can be improved to make the ultimate Pokemon game!
On the apricorns thing... more modern eras Kurt was making the "specialty" balls from 7 different varieties of apricorn(quick balls, heavy, love and such) but it was a "lost art" due to big pokeball company becoming a monopoly as things became more rules leaden. Basically as comparison timeline's basically old days(Arceus) smiths discover how to work ore they use the exact same ore(apricorn trees) omtp things only a few can actually use, a few creative smiths go hmm maybe I can improve on the formula and start bringing in the different ore types(hybridizing the apricorn trees for different properties naturally without the need for more siltstones), in comes factory made steel which is "strong enough" and cheaper for the general population but a few smiths keep the traditions alive
Wood, this is the best review I've seen from you yet. The editing and memes were top notch, as was the content. On the pokeballs not being technological: They explain that by saying that the ability to shrink down actually belongs to the Pokemon themselves, and the balls just sort of "trigger" that instinct. Which I suppose helps underline the name of "pocket monster."
I’m hoping the DLC will include a zone with a more vibrant pallet. Honestly, the landscape would at least look decent if it had some color to pop. One of the aspects I liked about brilliant diamond is that the colors seemed to pop
Welcome. I've got Let's Go: Eevee too but Legands is way better. I'm having so much fun, even my daughter loves playing it. The only thing I don't like is the amount of cut scenes. Stop those and let me play all ready 😂
This whole review nailed it all. I remember my first time going out into the wild and I was immediately awe struck with the freedom of movement that was given to us. The story sure may have some plot holes but I was captivated by it. When I found my first shiny (Female Combee) it took my breath away and made me panic because of the interactions they have given pokemon in this game. The graphics are not perfect, but just like you said I truly don't care because I'm too immersed to notice unless I'm looking for flaws. Great review, and love the energy and positivity all the youtubers, players, and reviewers are giving this game. Side note, I haven't been able to put the game down since it's release.
'makes the other Lucarios feel insecure' made me crack up. I'm playing SMTV at the moment, but I will definitely pick this game up next. I'm so happy to hear that so many people are enjoying it.
if you run towards a wild blissey while being damaged (black border around your screen) it will not fight you but follow you around and keep cheering you up and its the most adorable thing ive ever seen in a pokemon game
Oooh, thank you for the positive review! There were so many knee-jerk bad reviews taken within the first few hours of release, it's refreshing to see one after you've already taken several hours to play and feel it out! After the disappointment of Brilliant Diamond, this is so refreshing - and sure - while it's not without its flaws, all of this can be built upon, and I really hope they don't decide to trash it and return to an older style for the next core games. I feel like it's impossible to go backwards from here. Unacceptable, now that we've had a taste of what an open world core Pokemon game can be like. Yep, I'm having a chuckle every time things go pixelated in water or I see the Duck Hunt flying types off in the distance, but now they've got time to iron all of those things out and build for the next game! :)
The amount of criticism Wood slipped in there yet managing to call this the best Pokémon ever - very impressive. I can’t say that this review convinced me to purchased Arceus but it does make me hopeful for a more polished game evolving the same mechanics further in the future
I strongly agree with everything he said this is the way GF can’t never go back to the old formula of Pokémon gaming ever again. This is the breath of life this series desperately needed now we just need the same thing for the Pokémon anime.
Perfect ending there with Gyarados! Hilarious. After hearing this review I have to pick the game up. Played a ton of pokémon as a child and I know I'll love this and will get a similar feeling to what you're feeling Woods. Love the video!
Ok this is an awesome review that made me laugh, made me feel excited like a child uncovering Pokémon for the first time, and gave me chills at the dramatic end. Love love love! I am maybe 20 hours in and I can agree that though it isn’t the prettiest game, and some of the world stuff is… weird… that doesn’t make it a bad game. Rushed and glitchy, sure, and also super fun! I’ve been taking it slow and completing a ton of side quests, which is not normally how I play. This game has helped me relax into the world of Pokémon and take my time completing the story and encourage me to explore to my heart’s content.
Ok now THIS is the content I signed up for 😂 I loved this video, it was hilarious and your rendition of CYLLENE will probably live in my mind rent free. You are so funny and entertaining to watch 😂 keep it up brother 👏✨
"The best game gamefreak has ever made" and "brought my childhood to life" both explain this game perfectly. Awesome game, but they are lucky pokemon is such a good idea
Wow, can i like this video more than once, please? This was one of the best reviews i have ever seen. It was funny, it praised the good sides in an incredibly fun and accelerating way, it criticized the game in a way that was not hateful, but actually hopeful. Nothing but positive energy coming from this video, i just love it.
I do hope they add those "fixes" in an update or DLC. Maybe following pokemon should be added as an update but stuff like multi battle could be added in a dlc. Maybe add a new land like the Battle Zone and also finally introduce multiplayer exploration and battling. It would be a perfect fit for a "Battle" Themed DLC.
This is my first entry into the Pokémon series ... sort of, I think... I have to say it’s such a fun and addicting game. It’s one of those games where I have to finish it 100%. The story’s great, the battle mechanics are awesome, the world is massive, and the mini quests are fine. There might be a few things that needs to be improved and added like the npcs could be more livelier, village customization, cooking mechanics (tired of seeing them eat potato mochi all the time), time change in the village, training camp, more difficult mini quests, more villages besides Jubilife, and climbing elevated areas. Can’t wait for Pokémon scarlet/violet. Hopefully it’s a more improved version of Pokémon legends Arceus.
So far loving the game. The graphics are pretty horrendous when compared to other switch exclusives like Mh Rise or BOTW, but it stands on its own and is really fun. Great Review!
Yeah, visuals are crazy bad considering the Switch has games like SMTV and Luigi's Mansion and the fact that even the Pokemon Mobile games made by Chinese EA Tencent look better is laughable. But at the end of the day it's the heart and content of the game that matters most and while presentation certainly is a nice detail that can do very well it's tolerable to ignore it's shortcomings if the rest of the package is good enough, which it more than is in this case.
Switch exclusives and mh rise in the same sentence? xD Rise released on pc a few weeks ago. But I get your point. It was developed for switch hardware, and they did such a good job at optimizing its performance given how cluttered things can be

Thanks Wood! Amazing review as always!
Oh how the tables have turned!!! 🤣🤣
Ya
Professor Oak has been telling us for 26 years that the tall grass is dangerous. Clearly this is how the wild Pokemon learned ambush tactics. It's our fault. XD
So pokemon became ninja, because original trainers were ninja. I see… 🤔
@@skydragonfire93 it's funny that it basically ties in like that. It actually works!
I feel like this exactly
They so badly need voice acting.

@@thesandman2426 I'm shocked I actually got it right. I thought I was huffing copium
Only thing I wish they had thought about was letting wild encounters fight each other as an AI function for Emerson. Wild monsters don't ever see each other as a threat which felt out of place
or how they act.... a little to artificial

Just imagine what this could be like in one or two generations. Voice acting, more polished graphics... This could became the Pokemon game of my dreams, existed to see if GameFreak will continue to make these types of Pokemon games, and how they will expand on it
Right, take this game make map bigger add all Pokémon ever, add gyms in city's and make it so it's online and it's the greatest game of all time lol
My kids love these games but the walls of text are big hurdles for my youngest two
Agree, even indie games have voice acting but Pokemon franchise is so stingy with its consumers
leave the voice acting out, i like the reading and more kids could use the chance to read considering no one picks up books anymore.
I'd like to see some more exploration of ruins and such and some more random villain encounters but I think it's a good start.
and a better graphic that is appropiate
they defiantly are in the right direction. dlc may address a few of the issues such as lack of interactions post game, and adding more "bandits" i.e trainer battles. im expecting us to get dlc earlier than they meant to due to the massive success, which could mean them adding more dlc.
all things considered arceus is a masterpiece of a pokemon game, in comparison to the past, and it can only go up from here.

The most enjoyable game review on UA-cam, EVER! The perfect example of what a review by a OG fan looks like!
You mean biased?
Its a step back from the original formula. Wrapped in excuses.
Graphics are subpar, glitches. Battle system unchanged (even gigantimax added a new dynamic)
It had so much potential..

This sums up my thoughts, and I believe most people's, on this wonderful experience.
I have not enjoyed a pokemon game since pokemon red. This one is fantastic.
One of my favorite things in the game is battling on water, it's pretty simple, but instead of having a pokemon just float on water like a Luxray, it gets a little raft/boat thing to stand on, flying types are still doing the flying, which makes sense.
And the water ones swim, when i saw samurott padling i was like omg, the water pokemon can actually swim!
It took me forever to figure out that if you jump with Basculegion and go to aim a thrown item, time slows just like shooting an arrow in BotW. Though I do wish they had carried that over to falling from Braviary, but I'll take what I can get.
Yeah. And another neat thing is Decidueye. On land it stands on its legs but on water it actually flies with its wings. Pretty cool detail.
I just hoped they will fixed the fish-water type pokemon not to float while on land.
for gen9 (or future dlc for this game if possible), I would love if they added this:
- ability to ride your own pokemon (if they’re rideable, eg: rapidash, gyarados)
- command your pokemon to follow you
- battle with 2 pokemons
- certain pokemon with high friendship level could automatically shield you while you’re being attacked by wild pokemon
- pet your pokemon, play mini games with them and feed them
- breeding system
- hold item
I really hope they expand on this a lot. There's so much more they could do. Imagine an open world pokemon game with all regions and all pokemon, expanding the mounts concept but make it any pokemon that can use the move, etc. There are so many ideas I have for what they could do to expand on this. It's freaking awesome
Your reviews are always so FUN, like hyping up with a friend... if he could do video editing magic on reality itself while he talks with a musical number suddenly. It's just so nice to hang out in your reviews, even for games I don't play.

Hard mode, huh? Like officially?
Normal Pokémon games print money, based on the legends sales numbers, legends games also print money. I think Pokémon Company would like to print as much money as they can, which means both.

I'm loving this game so far. Just caught the alpha rapidash and I screamed in victory like a lunatic. It FINALLY feels, like I'm in the pokemon world, with its seamless transitions. Great review man!
hub world is a little far from seamless.
After sneaking bait capturing that rapidash,
suddenly every other "boss battle" is easier than that first alpha.
@@dsproductions19 hopefully with this game they'll make a bit of money and be able to expand their animation and graphics team for next time. 🙄

Same but too bad you need Diamond and Pearl to get Darkrai 😑
@@ZeroEon I think Darkrai and Shaymin are not counted in the Hisuian Pokedex so no need to beat yourself up about it
@@7swordquanta459 shayman is just an in-game request mission not like darkrai that you actually need a save file from D&P
@@ZeroEon I think you need a Sw or Sh save file for that based on what I found
I started to play it on release day and immediately fell in love. Unfortunately I have to write an exam on Monday and couldn't play more than a few hours, because I had to learn, but playing Pokémon Arceus is the first thing I am going to do after finishing that exam
Gl on your exam!
@@tom22333 thanks
The wood grain is made by sanding down the ancient apricorn, and the smooth red top is crafted by polishing a tumblestone. That's how I perceived it.
I'd love a more real world version of this. Where you actually need to explore vast environments to track down specific pokemon rather than seeing them littered around small areas. Tracking them back to nests and capturing them while they're asleep or something as an option.
like monster hunter
I'm absolutely loving this game tbh. Been playing it almost nonstop since I got it I already have a few shinies, finished all the quests and working on getting a perfect pokedex.
Same, I'm loving it!
I CANT STOP
Man your voice sounds so much like Gary/Professor Oak from the Pokemon Kanto cartoon! haha sick video.
So much potential... Remember slashing obstacles away on the Gameboy? What if you could control your pokemons and do it yourself, like when you fly or climb in this game. How about directly controlling the pokemons during the fights (without it being too action-based)?
That would be icing on the cake.
All i could think when I was playing this game is “wow I’m having SO MUCH FUN” it was unbelievable
This game has totally become my favorite Pokémon game ever.
The wriggling animation for Gyarados and Onix are exactly what was missing for well, 2 decades.
9:18 Wood singing is something I didn't know I needed in my life 😂
As much as I love this game, I don't know if it will work with a whole new region and gyms.
This is like the Pokemon Researcher game I've always wanted. I hope they double down on the next one and make the character more of a researcher.
Great review! I never got to play pokemon games as a kid (we were broke af) but this game feels to me how those games would've felt back then. I'm so excited for what's next!
I know almost nothing about Pokémon and this is my first game besides the new snap. And I am also obsessed. It is SO GOOD
As an OG Pokémon gamer, I suggest you get the game boy red, blue or yellow version from somewhere. It is important to know where this all started. You will hate it after seeing legends but it would be equal to playing halo infinite as your first halo game and not playing any others.
One thing I'd love is to move between maps without having to go back to the main village
Good review! Kleavor is pronounced like "cleaver", it cleaves things.
bought this game halfway through 2022 and was immediately happy with my purchase
I’m hoping the DLC will include a zone with a more vibrant pallet. Honestly, the landscape would at least look decent if it had some color to pop. One of the aspects I liked about brilliant diamond is that the colors seemed to pop
First Pokémon game I’ve ever played and loving every second of it. A sign of good things to come. Would be exciting if they have DLC for this game 😁🔥
There are leaks that confirmed that the devs are working on dlc at the moment.
Your comment got stolen by a bot...and hearted
@@akamiddlechild Thanks for the headsup:)
if you run towards a wild blissey while being damaged (black border around your screen) it will not fight you but follow you around and keep cheering you up and its the most adorable thing ive ever seen in a pokemon game

Finally someone who was as confused as me.
That was the most hilarious Pokémon review I’ve ever watched! Laughing the whole way through. Thanks for the laughs
Your reactions are what I felt during FFVIIR. Also I’m addicted to Zenith in VR and when I’m not sleeping or need a break I’m playing Arceus
Weird I could have sworn they said. "Three pokemon in a SINGLE DAY no One has done."
Ok now THIS is the content I signed up for 😂 I loved this video, it was hilarious and your rendition of CYLLENE will probably live in my mind rent free. You are so funny and entertaining to watch 😂 keep it up brother 👏✨
I’m addicted. This is the Pokémon game for add people who fall asleep during the old battles
"The best game gamefreak has ever made" and "brought my childhood to life" both explain this game perfectly. Awesome game, but they are lucky pokemon is such a good idea
He also says “one of [his] favorite video games [he’s] ever played” so… and literally not 15 seconds after those two quotes.
Loving this game so much! Taking my time with it for sure and completing the Pokédex as I go!
This new pokemon game is great. A fresh take on the old and tired pokemon formula.
Switch exclusives and mh rise in the same sentence? xD
Rise released on pc a few weeks ago. But I get your point. It was developed for switch hardware, and they did such a good job at optimizing its performance given how cluttered things can be
This is my first Pokémon game and am enjoying it so far!
I love running away from the battle when you know it's gonna be done but isn't quite done just yet. Makes me feel like a arsehole I love it.
I feel a lot of Nostalgia I Starded watching your channel, before I traveled to america, cause I wanted to practice my English (I'm mexican) and one of the first videos I watched is that pokemon video, Amazing to see how far and how changed we are now
