I'm not against the idea of what happened, but if they had done more showing and less telling about how disillusioned Luke had already become and what terrible stuff he saw that Ben was willing to do I feel like it would have gone over better and wouldn't have read to people as "Luke just tried to kill him". Despite that, we literally got the best Luke moment at the end of the movie when he uses the Force for knowledge and defense and never for attack, becoming in my opinion the most powerful and most good Jedi there has ever been. Luke had to learn of the Order's failures in the Prequels, become disillusioned and question them in order to come out stronger on the other side. His hope and belief in Jedi teachings had to be challenged to prove it was real and not just born out of ignorance. That's how I view it, anyway. I still get chills watching Luke walk out onto the salt flats to face down the walkers.

I for one was disappointed that they weren't brave enough to explore Grey Force theory. If Ben's proposal to dismiss all existing order is sincere, and Rey accept it, then what would happen, is a lot more interesting to venture into. But we are stuck with Light/Dark duality again.
You all could be the first reactors to do Carrie Fisher’s show like Wishful Drinking. She was a fantastic writer and was pretty introspective about her place in movies.
Hi from Sheffield I think and this is just my theory she made a forbe bubble around her so she can survive in space until she force pulled herself back to the ship❤❤
That was an amazing video! Now that I finally got to watch it from start to finish without interruptions all I can say is: thank you, thank you, thank you! TLJ is my favourite of this trilogy. I really like how realistic the story is (apparently, more realistic than some wanted or could handle). It showes that even the biggest hero can have huge flaws, and I'm not talking just about Luke. Take a look at the Resistance's poster-boy, Mr I'm-the-new-Han-Solo giving I-know-better speeches just like Ani. If we start counting, we'll see that he's the one responsible for the most deaths in the film. He has no respect for leadership nor for the lives of his comrades in arms; yet his image in the eyes of his fellow fighters never gets tarnished. It proves how easy it is to misjudge a person or a situation, witch seems to be the theme of the film. It also showes the reality of the "business" of war. And, that sacrificing yourself for the cause doesn't automatically make you a hero; sometimes it's unnecessary or plain stupid (Page's death, Finn's almost death). Rose's "saving what we love" is my top side-character quote. My favourite part of the film, however, is Rey and Ben's force-connection scenes. The conception of that aspect of the Force is incredible, the intimacy it creates between the characters so unique, the filming amazing and the chemistry between Adam and Daisy off the charts! No wonder Rian Johnson was adamant in having both physically present on set for each other! To me it feels like a fairytale-Beauty and the Beast with a strong dose of Pride and Prejudice.
Sounds like the tv show you talked about "Manifest" is a take on a Twilight Zone episone "The Odyssey of Flight 33".😎 Which would be a great show to react to. 🙂
1:39:04 to 1:39:06 - Hmm... Looking back on that quote, it reminds me of what Sirius said to Harry in Prisoner of Azkaban. "The ones who love us never really leave us." 1:39:26 to 1:39:30 - That was unscripted, believe it or not. Everybody hardly acknowledged Threepio, so Mark thought Luke stopping to acknowledge the Protocol droid would be a nice little moment. And y'know what? It is. Hell, I'd have done that, too, if I were him. Though now that I think about it, I feel like Anakin was acting through Luke in that moment. Anakin DID build him, after all. I dunno. Anybody else think this? Or am I just overthinking it?
I really wish more haters of this movie were like you, rather than the super vocal online crowd who like to imply (or even outright SAY) that there's something wrong with folks who like it.
Actually, Rian Johnson was offered the chance to direct ep 9 based on executive reactions to early versions of ep 8. He turned down the offer due to the film's tight production schedule.
@@lydiakaraiskou1421 is that right? it always felt like to me they were responding directly to criticism of 8 with a lot of the choices made in 9, with all the fan service. to its detriment imo.
@@captgeechI've seen it stated in several articles, including the IMDb page on TLJ. That was before ep8 was released and all that toxicity escalated. I also read that he was offered the chance to direct his own trilogy but I have no idea if that project is still alive and will ever come to fruition.
If Snape hit the gym. There was a Frankenstein movie a few years back where Radcliffe played Igor and people said he look like what of Snape had been his father instead.
There are lots of individual things to pick out that I really like in this movie, despite feeling is is the bottom tier of Star Wars in regards to the plot. Some good performances, great moments (Rose telling Finn how they will win always gets me), the return of Yoda. But I will NOT accept the raising of BB8 over the G.O.A.T. R2-D2
Yes, on the part of the bad guys. Too bad so many these days don't realize that racism is evil and dark, and if a politician has policies like that, they should not be given power.
1:51:06 when I finally got to see Rogue One in theater, Fisher was gone a while and i was going through plenty of difficult times. I had heard about the CGI work, but was not prepared for her to say that one word that had walked away from. I was a bawling mess for the entire credit scroll!
Honestly....there were a few (I stress the phrase "a few") things that were good with this movie, but I could easily have done without Luke milking that Thala-siren (the alien seal 👽 🦭 thing) and drinking it.
I agree, there's some weird thematic cliffs where they introduce odd slapstick humour into the movie but whatever, not enough to destroy my enjoyment. - Steejo
@@SuzySteejo It was still an enjoyable movie. I won't let naysayers who deny the existence of the sequels in Star Wars lore. Even if there's an instance in the last movie that confuses the crap out of me. (I'm not spoiling it)
The things that bother a lot of star wars fans about this film never bothered me. Luke having Trauma over failing Kylo Ren I really like, so Luke gets a redemption arc in this film. The things that I find annoying about this film are the side adventure to the Casino planet, which mostly just messes up the pacing of the story.
The problem with Luke's trauma over failing Kylo is that it makes no sense for him to fail him. He spends all of ROTJ arguing with everyone that Vader has good in his heart, and Vader has done much, much worse than Kylo. And in the end, he's right. Vader is good at heart. So...why would he forget all that with his best friend's son? His sister's son? When he argues with Ben and Yoda for Vader's life, he sacrifices himself and refuses to strike his father down in front of the Emperor. I'm not saying this could never happen, but it just comes out of nowhere, which is why most people say this movie assassinated Luke's character...because it objectively did. He has a redemption arc that's semi-decent, but he never needed redemption to begin with because his character in the previous films would never do something like this.
It 100% makes sense. Internalised trauma is a real thing and he thought he was watching the creation of another Sith Lord at his own hands. The problem with the Jedi and their future sight (and with a lot of other stories with prophecy etc) is that them knowing doesn't mean that they will change it and a lot of the time their knowing is the thing that fulfills the prophecy. - Steejo
Why wouldn't it? It's physically there. That's how people can see it. I don't think it's an all-in-the-mind kind of thing, cus these force ghosts just pop up when people aren't even expecting it.
@@ProtossWannabe1984 Cus they're not ghosts! But...liquids and gases absolutely DO cast a shadow. Even air casts a shadow, you just don't notice, because there's no direct comparison, cus you can't just open a tunnel of vacuum up into space. But when the air is moving, and there are areas of very different density moving around, you can see the shadow. Check out the shadow of a smokeless flame.
Probably the most visually impressive of the sequels. I think one of the main dividers for this is that it pulls form Star Wars orignal sources, not Star Wars itself as most stories tended to, like classic war films, and samurai fair, so the guys who obsessed over the old eu materials felt slighted for it not rewarding their sense of expertise. Seriously half the most vocal criticisms I've heard is over so called breaks in lore which never got mentioned on-screen.
I didn't like these last 3 films. The star wars FAN films are much better so after episode 6 that's what I like to watch now for star wars. I watched "episode 7, 8, 9" at the theater but I could care less about them. The fan film about REY at 6 or 7 years old was cool though . The Greedo in it was awesome. Hope you enjoyed your watch.
Oh, do they still make those Unreal Engine shorts about those two stormtroopers? Those were pretty fun. And I remember seeing a bunch of pretty good fan movies. I think on SciFi3d
Rian Johnson directed this, my favorite film of the Skywalker Saga. I loved how the Force Lore was expanded, similar to how The Empire Strikes Back expanded Force powers. I wish they had opened on Canto Bight instead of beginning with that silly Poe Dameron trolling the Dreadnought Captain.
so crazy how split the fandom is over this film. personally, i love it and it's actually the only prequel or sequel film i like besides Revenge of the Sith i think it's very important to see that even Luke Skywalker can fail. we ALL fail at different points in our life, multiple times. but Yoda's lesson about how we need to help the next generation learn from our mistakes is so important it's the next film that absolutely ruined the sequel trilogy, for me anyway. Disney was so scared about the half of the fandom that didn't like The Last Jedi that they let JJ Abrams make a movie that pretty much nobody liked
I'm glad you enjoyed it but this movie is ASS...and so is it's director. This movie broke the fandom......and my brain. Shout out to George Lucas and REAL Star Wars. Not Kathleen Kennedy and (C)Rian (for having a small) Johnson
The fandom was actually broken by fans who believe there is such a thing as correct and incorrect opinions. Without such fans, this movie would still have been very controversial, and a lot of folks would still have disliked or even hated it, but the fandom would not have been fouled up by the immense toxicity that it was.
How about you let them watch as they wish? It’s their choice to watch the sequels and if they enjoy it, allow them to do so. They’re not causing any harm
There were good parts in these movies, a lot of good parts actually. But what they did to my boy Luke ruined it all for me tbh. You're telling me, the greatest Jedi knight, who saved Vader from the dark side after he felt a tiny bit of good in him would try to kill a kid because he showed parts of the dark side while sleeping? It felt like to me that Disney/the director just wanted to disparage our childhood heroes to build up the new cast
No offense, but your comment "It felt like to me that Disney/the director just wanted to disparage our childhood heroes to build up the new cast" is ABSURD. Absurd. The only explanation I can think of is that you have an irrational hatred of Disney and/or its writer-director.

I agree but we should have got an explanation of how emperor paperplane returned after darth elevator killed him
@BatteryAcid87 Uh, didn't they spell it out in that movie? Didn't Palpatine hint at it himself in Episode VI?
So instead, they went for an unsafe retread.
@@EntertainmentFan11 Maybe Poe explained it through morse code blinks
Yep I hoped someone would see it awesome if you didn't get it you have to play the starwars games it called a force breathing shield 🛡
He read the intro text crawl exactly the way Clone Wars episodes start.
put a ring on it my dood
45:04 i must say i like this expression of "the Force" the most of all the other previous attempts

Ignore the whiny babies who act like they know how to direct anything
Obligatory "Don't listen to the haters" comment.
When are you posting on Suzy lu gameplay again
Skellig Michael in County Kerry was the location to film the final planet of Ach-to Where Luke is found.
Sounds like the tv show you talked about "Manifest" is a take on a Twilight Zone episone "The Odyssey of Flight 33".😎 Which would be a great show to react to. 🙂
Silver Armor trooper is Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth)
Did you know that the silver storm trooper lady is the same actress as Lady Brie of Tarth from GOT?
1:39:04 to 1:39:06 - Hmm... Looking back on that quote, it reminds me of what Sirius said to Harry in Prisoner of Azkaban. "The ones who love us never really leave us."
1:39:26 to 1:39:30 - That was unscripted, believe it or not.
I hate this film, but I hope you guys enjoy it.
I really wish more haters of this movie were like you, rather than the super vocal online crowd who like to imply (or even outright SAY) that there's something wrong with folks who like it.
Thanks, I just figure the movie wasn't my cup of tea, but I am not going to yell at someone because they liked it. I hope people enjoy it.
@@dc1975as someone who liked this movie I really appreciate this
Phasma is played by the one and only Brienne of Tarth😁
Despite what the haters say I love this movie. I wish Rian Johnson did the third one as well.
Yeah I wish he would've done the whole trilogy.

Carrie Fisher died while Rogue One was out. This was released a year after her death.
Carrie was alive for Rogue One’s release
@DDDiego First week of release, sure, but it was still in theaters by the time she died.
@@EntertainmentFan11well you should’ve said after it came out then
Wait till you guys see star wars 9 ❤
If you liked BB-8 you should watch Star Wars Rebels and see Chopper in action lol
Y’all should watch Star Wars the Clone Wars animated movie
They need to go chronological order. The movie is third in that order.
What is that on his face? That would be the scar from when he got hit in the head with a lightsaber from Rey.
Am I only one thinks kylo ren looks like Severus Snape
If Snape hit the gym. There was a Frankenstein movie a few years back where Radcliffe played Igor and people said he look like what of Snape had been his father instead.
I was saying that last movie (only it was during the scene where he was trying to use Force Probe on Rey)!
I’m glad I didn’t watch the last jedi in theaters because in the trailers and tv spots none of them showed Luke vs Snoke
So what

Made it through the 11th best Star Wars movie....
You should do a reaction to Hardware Wars - a short Star Wars spoof.
In the bloopers Carrie slaps Oscar Issac several times
Not sure if you noticed but Carrie Fishers daughter is in episode VIII - episode IX
And VII.
@ your right I meant to say episode vii I just forgot how romantic numerals work
Thanks for the great reaction to my favorite Star Wars movie!
1:41:37 laughed too hard at that one!😂
While for sure not my favorite Star Wars. I still like a fair bit of it. Visually it's just stunning and there's still many powerful scenes
Manifest sounds interesting, I remember hearing about it but never watched it....would still love if you guys "reacted" to Highlander the Series 🙂
BTW on the topic of racism, I'll just say the empire and first order seems to be mostly human. So yeah there seems to be some racism in Star Wars.
Yes, on the part of the bad guys. Too bad so many these days don't realize that racism is evil and dark, and if a politician has policies like that, they should not be given power.
They're definitely racist against woookies, which there's a glimpse of in Solo, and much more in the shows like Clone Wars & Rebels.
CHEEKS!!!
Stee-3P-jo, you know your the baddy when you wear a skull.
1:51:06 when I finally got to see Rogue One in theater, Fisher was gone a while and i was going through plenty of difficult times. I had heard about the CGI work, but was not prepared for her to say that one word that had walked away from. I was a bawling mess for the entire credit scroll!
Love this
Luke became force ghost :9
I thought this movie was awesome
How come when Luke disappears at the end does all of him disappear? Like his robot hand as well?? wtf is that???
Obi-Wan only left his brown outer robe. No tunic, no belt, no boots.
The Force permeates everything. Even your boots. 😅 - Steejo
"MORE"
That was disturbing
Honestly....there were a few (I stress the phrase "a few") things that were good with this movie, but I could easily have done without Luke milking that Thala-siren (the alien seal 👽 🦭 thing) and drinking it.
It was a comedic misfire, to be sure, but the absolute MOUNTAIN some fans turned this tiny little molehill into was beyond ridiculous.
(I'm not spoiling it)
What happened 😢
@@jesussantos7380 As Luke himself said in this film, he had become a legend after that. Yet what do people often say about legends?
It 100% makes sense. Internalised trauma is a real thing and he thought he was watching the creation of another Sith Lord at his own hands. The problem with the Jedi and their future sight (and with a lot of other stories with prophecy etc) is that them knowing doesn't mean that they will change it and a lot of the time their knowing is the thing that fulfills the prophecy. - Steejo
@@SuzySteejo Exactly.
@@SuzySteejoBut Force Visions aren't entirely reliable. He already learned that in Empire Strikes Back.
Yoda’s Force “ghost” casts a shadowy silhouette in front of the fire. WTH>:(
Why wouldn't it? It's physically there. That's how people can see it. I don't think it's an all-in-the-mind kind of thing, cus these force ghosts just pop up when people aren't even expecting it.
@@ashscott6068Ghosts aren’t solid masses so they shouldn’t cast a shadow. Fluids and gases definitely don’t, so why should ghosts?
@@ProtossWannabe1984 Cus they're not ghosts! But...liquids and gases absolutely DO cast a shadow. Even air casts a shadow, you just don't notice, because there's no direct comparison, cus you can't just open a tunnel of vacuum up into space. But when the air is moving, and there are areas of very different density moving around, you can see the shadow. Check out the shadow of a smokeless flame.
Clouds brother....clouds....-Steejo
@@ProtossWannabe1984 Fluids and gases definitely do. If they are reflecting light, then they are casting shadows.
Visual in this film were fantastic. Other then that I didn't enjoy the film just my opinion
I always thought he said “Yamcha” too😂
Only Star wars film the I dislike. I really tried to be fair.
this is one of my two favorite Star Wars movies . this and Star Wars 4
Honest I don't like this movie; a lot of wasted potential, abandoned plot points, pacing, being unsure of what type of movie it wants to be.
To be honest I don't mind if people didn't like the movie. Just don't be a whiny baby about it and you're OK. - Steejo
What Leia did in that scene with being blown up, Luke did that in Star Wars legends!
so crazy how split the fandom is over this film. personally, i love it and it's actually the only prequel or sequel film i like besides Revenge of the Sith
i think it's very important to see that even Luke Skywalker can fail. we ALL fail at different points in our life, multiple times. but Yoda's lesson about how we need to help the next generation learn from our mistakes is so important
it's the next film that absolutely ruined the sequel trilogy, for me anyway. Disney was so scared about the half of the fandom that didn't like The Last Jedi that they let JJ Abrams make a movie that pretty much nobody liked
They were split since the Originals, apparently. Just wasn't made clear 'til now.
@@newdayatmidnight We've already seen Luke fail.

The fandom was actually broken by fans who believe there is such a thing as correct and incorrect opinions.
Without such fans, this movie would still have been very controversial, and a lot of folks would still have disliked or even hated it, but the fandom would not have been fouled up by the immense toxicity that it was.

@joshhendley4437 better than all the prequels tho 🙊
@@BowieZ No offense taken, I dont hate Disney, I just dont like the direction they took with the old characters in these movies. How is that absurd?
