    Nice vid! I think this is Dominick Cruz' favorite takedown. I saw him pull something like this takedown every time I see him fight. He pulled it off on Urijah Faber at least four times in a row in the last round of their rematch fight.

    I love that you've added footage of the technique being used in a real situation. I think more UA-cam instructional should be doing this.

    I recognise this. Fedor Emilianenko has done this many times when he misses an overhand right. Terrific takedown.

    Ok well don't shoot on concrete if you recently had knee surgery. Don't do any takedown if that's the case because if you trip them or just football tackle, you will still fall to the concrete and land on your knees. But a shot works on concrete fine as long as you are healthy, so drill them.

    all takedowns in mma are good for the street. what are you talking about? If anything the street will help you because the hard surface will help KO the guy or knock the wind out of him

    • @heightcopecentre

      @Jacob Sirak You can do blast double without putting your knee on the floor.

    i dont think it will work, relies more on power then technique, what if for ex a guy is skinny n thte other guy is muscular,legs r stronger then arms. i like the move tho, its quick and effective for a bigger guy doing it do a small guy

    At last! A MMA takedown that doesn't suck for the street.
    Heheheh! Flame on! ;d

  • @danielskipp1
    @danielskipp1 10 років тому

    Correct... Hence the need to hit and not grapple...palm heels and elbows to the chin and nose and stomping shins and feet when merciful and attacking the eyes and throat when needed. You can always hold back from damaging the eyes while pressing them anyway.. you still get a nice controllable impulse from them [I suggest towards the ground!]. A ninjutsu guy floored and pinned a guy by his eyes twice in a row! Seems some people don't learn easy when you don't hurt them.

  • @danielskipp1
    @danielskipp1 10 років тому

    Really? Wow! I just can't understand then how that Gracie broke his knee shooting for a takedown on a mugger.
    Oh, I get it: it was impact with concrete reality, not dojo mats.
    Then there's broken glass [like in the ghetto or bar fights] and needles etc.
    Of course grappling on the ground is never the best move when attacked by multiple thugs... so MMA training for takedowns all the time is really suicidal. No good saying "I would not try to go to ground in a real fight": you fight how you train.

  • @danielskipp1

    Great for the MMA ring.. not great for the street. It is just luck that running into a guy with your arms wide as in 0.58 does not get you a KO/lost eye/broken face/jaw/collar bone from his punch/elbow/forearm. Boxers and real fighters have a guard for a reason. Martial arts have limb destruction, trapping and deflections to more safely work towards the head for a reason.
    If his highside arm blocks your clothesline or hits you away then the technique fails and you are open to further striking or grappling.
    It is just luck [that is to say a slow and/or unaggressive and/or incompetent opponent] that "the bad guy" does not instinctively grab you as he falls. Not only does getting grabbed sometimes tear tender parts off but it tends to pull you into the concrete for some groundwork... not a smart place to be on the mean streets. Vale Tudo is a nice testbed for fighting but unless you realize that real conflict often comes mob-handed and/or armed that makes all this ground-grappling suicidal you are dangerously deluding yourself and others. MMA experts, quit hyping your style for self-defence... it is criminal neglect.

      +Daniel Skipp It's a matter of timing and setting it up. You can set it up by punches, and you can also make the takedown reactive, so when he throw his jabb you use this takedown (using the "jedi mind trick").
      Also i dont understand how you think people are harder to take down in "the streets" than in an MMA ring. In a competition you will meet other trained fighters, on the streets you're most likely not to come across the same level of skills. So a technique is always harder to perform against someone who has actual skills (an MMA fighter) against someone who has none (an "street fighter").

    • @danielskipp1
      @danielskipp1 8 років тому

      Björn Karlsson
      you may be surprised to see I agree with all your points... of course a setup is preferable, optimally with a controlling pop-up on their arms to create the timing space for the shoot.
      Still a risk, though probably worth it IF the risk of grappling overall is worth it. THAT is my main point that you seem to miss. Grappling is great for 1 on 1 sports competition, even highly preferable [assuming superior skill] in 1 on 1 real no-rules fighting... my point is that 1 on 1 unarmed is rarely guaranteeable. It is a risk.... many things can go badly, even fatally, wrong.
      Once you are in grappling it is difficult to notice, evade and quickly escape if needed [such as the surprise intro of weapons or other hostiles]. That is my message. If your MMA technique does not account for tearing grabs from the free arms of falling targets and the possibility of them producing a knife or friends behind you then it is a dangerously flawed self-defense technique.
      My point is that we fight how we train and that these threats, weapons and multiples, are often not seen or even perceivable until after the decision is made to grapple, so any training programme that leans heavily on grappling, especially wrestling and BJJ with its dearth of standup striking and focus on newaza, is bound to produce a fighter full of bad habits [shooting for the takedown] very dangerous for the street. I have yet to get any BJJ fan to accept these simple points. The cult of UFC is too strong with them.

    OK fine... but let's get back to reality, BJJ fans. No decent streetfighter likes to go to ground. Ask about... ask people who actually really do fight a great deal on the streets and in bars. Ask a bouncer. Ask anyone who has a fucking clue. That would be not be another BJJ fan BTW.
    There is a reason for that. People who fight a lot who are less than high level BJJ dans would get creamed if they tried ground shit a lot. Even high dans would give up BJJ for the street once they tried it on gangs
