CAVE DIVER REACTS TO HIS OWN BLUE GROTTO CAVE DIVE!

- We've received multiple requests to upload videos of our dives and lucky for those who have requested video I had the opportunity to record my entire dive inside the Cave at Blue Grotto.
This is NOT the Cavern side where 99.9% of the Blue Grotto videos are filmed, this one is on the Cave Side which I had never been to until this dive and it is locked and unavailable to regular divers.
So instead of just posting the entire video I decided to remove some of the uneventful parts and react to the rest, some of it of course includes my own mistakes and why they happened.
If you would like to learn more about Blue Grotto and the cave, check out this video: • THE CAVE AT BLUE GROTTO
I liked it when you said "What do I do? Panic? Cry? Yell for my mom? No, I just keep swimming." Life advice right there in or out of the water.
True
I was going to make the same comment! *high five*
actually swimming is not very useful out of the water
I need that advice right now. I'm Trying to keep my head above water.

It's a figure of speech
Love your open and honest approach. Every time we watch one of your videos we learn a ton. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for watching!
I would love to see a video of your equipment and going over how it works and what you use for your cave Dives. Your lights and everything. All of your equipment your safety equipment everything. Even if it's redundancy I would like to see those when you get a chance please
Awesome! Next time I’m diving caves I’ll record the video and walk through all the gear. Thanks for the suggestion!
The reason I respect you and Woody so much, you are not afraid to engage in self critique and own up to your mistakes. Such a rare quality, and I'd love to be instructed by you.
Thank you Doug, although that's Gus on the video. We both get confused all the time here on the channel. :)
@@DIVETALK No I had you correct, I was just commenting on both of you. Really enjoy the videos you guys put up, and your commitment to safe practices.
I wouldnt mind seeing you two go through your checklists on your kiss rebreathers just as you would before a dive.
Loved the video Gus, and yes please upload more of your personal dives. I’m sure most other people here agree and would love to see more. Thanks!
"Yell for my Mom" too funny! I did laugh out loud. But I absolutely LUVED this video and your descriptions throughout it! You made some great and valuable points/messages in this video! (Well, you and Woody always do). But let me say that having them come form the actual diver while viewing the dive is soooooo much more valuable! Thank you!
Your progression over past year or so is really interesting to see. Makes the crystal caves all the more great to watch - i'm invested! Humility is a really likeable and watchable personal quality
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback
This is an amazing channel, no matter what your level of experience is. Discovered this channel by accident yesterday and it's just a great informative channel. I've subscribed and also told all my dive partners and friends about this channel. Finally a legit diver with a legit channel. Flippers and oxygen tanks need not apply.
Thank you Erica. I appreciate the kind words and thank you for sharing the channel with your dive buddies. :)
@@DIVETALK you're welcome.
Blue grotto was a lot of fun when I was there. It was just my group and I there (6 people plus our divemaster) and the visibility was crystal clear. Didn’t enter the cave (not certified) but we swam around the cavern up into the air bell, then down to the mouth of the cave to see the grim reaper sign before turning back toward the platforms and meeting Virgil for the first time.
I've only gone snorkeling once outside of a pool. Still absolutely love this channel.
Love watching your videos. You should definitely film more of your dives!
You should also expand into dive site reviews, product reviews, etc.
This is the best dive channel on youtube.
Thanks
Love how you try to explain the reason for lighting at an angle instead of straight in front! That’s something I didn’t know about! Makes sense too cause you simply are not lighting up the particles close in front of you anymore therefor allowing you to see where your light is pointed farther ahead
I hike all the time but would never go spelunking without equipment and training. I dont understand why you would think "I can scuba dive let me go into this cave. " I love this show and learn so much. Keep it up.
Agreed!
Hey brother I live in the middle of cave country. I have dove some of the caverns to the caves IE. Peacock, gynnie, itchtucknee to name some. I enjoyed your video very much. Keep them coming
Thank you Charles. Hope to meet you down there some day. Thanks for watching!
I have a buddy interested in getting full cave so I will pass this on to him. I’m sure he will enjoy as much as I did
Stay aware
@@charleshenderson842 thank you. Yes, we have several videos about Cave Diving and many more coming in the future. I just wish we had more time to record! 😂
Great video Gus, I like the fact you highlight the need to be critical with ourselves and always strive for continuous improvement.
Everyone can improve!
@@DIVETALK great job, thank you for your replay
Great video as always, keep up the awesome work. I had to laugh about the abysmal visibility comment, that's what we call great visibility in our German lakes. :D
Yeah, I should've said "Abysmal, for Blue Grotto"...our lakes are way worse. :D
All of your videos are so interesting. I actually discovered this channel from one of the reactions to a MrBallen video, and I just kept watching. At this point, everything I know about cave diving, I’ve learned from this channel.
Same
Yes please more videos of you guys, amazing 👍🏽
This is the coolest channel man. I've been on UA-cam since the beginning and this is top 5 for me for sure. Great stuff. Great hosts.
Wow, thanks!
Yes! I love this idea, definitely need more of you and Woody diving. That would be so awesome. Please do this. I love y'all 💕
Love the honesty as always! I have no doubt you’ll be an expert someday.
uuuhhhh....I think he kind of is already>?
Love your very thorough, detailed and happy "regular-guy" explanations of the many things going-on around the divers. That tub reminded me of a diving-bell i used of a 100lb metal tub to change a 24inch brass prop on our fishing boat. Filled it with 5gal buckets of air.
Love watching you reacting to your own diving... would love to see more especially when cave diving! 👍👍
Would you dive Eagles Nest or Jacob's Well for us?
We might be going to Eagles Nest in early August. I’ll bring the camera although I’m concerned that it will break in the process since the housing is rather to 200 feet and Eagles Nest goes deeper than 300
@@DIVETALK Can't wait to see it.. hope all goes well for you!
I love to see things I will never get to see my self. Keep them coming
Thank you for sharing this dive and being open and honest enough to admit; show us and comment on your mistakes. Really enjoyed this dive. However, I really would have enjoyed it a lot more if the full screen could be devoted to the actual dive video whenever possible. Many times you are commenting on something in the video and all I can see is a rather dark and fuzzy screen above your computer. Thanks.
Just when I thought I've watched all of their videos, another new one pops up! I love this channel, I've learned so much watching Gus and Woody, thank you guys! 💪💪❤️❤️
Great Vid! I love watching you dive and reacting to other dives. I dont dive but is definitely interesting. Love the channel! I agree with Bruh Bruh, keep up the quality work.
Thank you Brett!
Your channel inspired me to look into open water scuba diving training…!
That is awesome!
Scared the shit out of me when you turned on the volume. Great video !
Thanks
Excellent video. Although I am a big chicken and you will never find me in a cave (wet or dry) I love all the information you share. It drives me crazy when I hear the stories of divers entering these caves without the experience needed. Thank you Gus for getting this info out there.
Blue Grotto looked a lot greener over the last weekend. Cool to see the cave side
My guy Gus has a killer watch collection! 💯
Apparently I missed this video!!! Glad UA-cam recommended it to me 👌😎
I love seeing your personal diving! Thanks so much for sharing. First I’m like… I want to scuba dive but not in a cave… but slowly, with every video.. I’m like maybe I would in fact do that. 🤔 😂
This was so cool. I really hope you film more of your dives and go over the dive with us. I will never do it and this helps me see the underworld
I dove the Blue Grotto cave in 2020. It is very silty, but as it is not dived often, it is a great way to see a Florida cave in a “pristine “ condition.
I really like this channel. Great content. Although I would never do anything like this myself I think it's interesting.
Keep up the videos and I know a lot more people will find you.
Thank you for watching!
These two guys are simply awesome .
Thanks for the comment and the encouragement.
Nice , woody gus more video like this filming diving don’t worry about the quality we just want to see and how you guys dive !!! 🔥🔥
Love watching your cave diving. Thanks
Great video and great job, I didn’t realize how much a couple wrong kicks could screw things up for everyone. 🤘
Thanks for the comment and the support.
I was there on the 27th as well. Can confirm it was super packed!
Great video as usual. But have to add, the screen part with video is small. I think it would be better to have video on full screen, switch your camera with video, you know, just how many streamers do.
Facinated by Cave diving, not sure I'd like restrictions still considering an open water licence. I'm adamant ill love it if so I'm also sure by that point I'll want to move on to cavern etc.
I was adamant that I would never ever dive in caves…but yet, here we are.
Great video.. I would like to see a video on how where and if it is doable to try a cave dive to see if what I think it is before spending 25k and then finding out it's not what I want .. here in northern Ontario Canada not many caves that I heard of ..
Have you heard of the hranika propast in Czech Republic? Over 400m deep! Also Mr Ballen does a story on some divers who died in the devils hole, Nevada
Keep em coming Gus
Cool video bro. I hope this channel explodes. 🤙🏼🖖🏼
Thanks for the comment and the support!
Someone needs to go in with a little underwater vacuum to clean up all that mess. 😂
Nice we like to see more diving from you guys !!!
I love to see more of your dives.
More coming soon!
I hereby request that you guys please explain to me how Herbert Nitsch is human in one of your upcoming videos. I would love to see your guys reaction to his world record.
Nice!
In the video it looked like you were quite far behind at times, is there any recommendations och rules on that in a cave course?
Never lose the line and signals to your buddy are with lights so near enough to your buddy to see the light signals.
Enjoyed the video. I will be doing my cave course here soon in Tulum and looking forward to it while paying attention to your reactions beforehand. Were you wearing a gopro on your helmet for this video?
Hi Sergio. No, it was a handheld camera on my right hand.
Nice oyster perpetual Gus, I have the blue face 39mm that one looks like the turquoise one but I’m Not sure, I want a Cameron deep sea next like yours
I think you should film all your cave dives. I really enjoy this as your telling us what’s going on. Maybe get a Camera you don’t have to hold.
Now that's a high candela light. It may have a lot of lumens but that nice tight beam is from a really high candela rating. Lumens is just raw horsepower and doesn't tell you anything about what the beam will look like. Candela tells you how much of that light will be focused in the center. The higher the candela, the beam becomes more like a spotlight. Less means it's a flood light.
Looks like some open waters in the netherlands at 20meters ;)
Absolutely love this!
WHen your behind the guide, how would you signal to him if you had an issue? Flash the light or something ?? tks
Correct!
That was a great walk through, thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Awesome video sea cave diving seems like an new beast entirely, or is just a matter of converting you numbers in your calculations from fresh to saline.
Blue Grotto is one of my favorite dive spots, just make certain you pick a dive buddy who knows how to stay off the bottom, otherwise stay out of the horse-shoe..
It’s a great training spot for sure.
"Gus Discovers Secret Deadly Underwater Cave Full Of Corpses And Survived"
amazing dive dude! cheers
Glad you liked it!
Why don’t you want to use your hands/arms, just leg kicks when you’re diving?
Very nice dive !
Say, this isnt all that horrible. Seems kind of relaxing actually.
We proper training it can be.
I am not a diver, I do not like react videos..... I am obsessed with these videos.
Wow thanks so much. We are honored to have you!
This may sound strange coming from someone who likes skydiving but I have no clue why anyone wants to go cave diving! Lol. Idk how I would ever enjoy the experience knowing I’m one mistake and a few seconds from dying. After you read that refer back to my first sentence lol. It just seems like so many things could go wrong and kill you. I guess because skydiving is an adrenaline rush and if worse comes to worse then I’m dead on impact where if worse happens under water ima drown. So I have no idea how y’all ever get back to the surface while towing those huge balls
This is actually a very good comment. Look for me cave diving is really hard. It just is. It takes so much training and practice and I feel I have so much improvement needed ahead. I’m glad you made this comment. Bottom line, it’s really hard. So why do it? Because it’s so fascinating to see parts of the world so very few get to see. It can be gorgeous and mysterious and intriguing and technical and mind provoking.
That’s my vida anyway and believe me cave instructors I worked with they teach me know I struggle with it as trim and buoyancy on a rebreather in a cave takes LOTS of practice. I need more.
Woody
I just fell in the rabbit hole through your videos, which are great, and ended up at Wikipedia. Which led me to a book called "The Cave Divers" by Robert F. Burgess. I guess it's less visually appealing than a video response but I'd be so curious to hear your response to the book. It reads very well - stories well told (apart from somewhat dated language...) but there were places where it almost reminded me of a book version of some of the clickbait youtube videos you have shared. But I definitely don't know enough to make any judgments and I'm also certainly learning about the history of cave diving. So anyway, I'd love to know what you think, or if there are any other fun books you'd recommend.
We will look into that for sure. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!
@@DIVETALK Just made it to chapter 20. It's about the Woody Jasper rescue covered in the Rescue 911 clip you responded to!
I don't think it has anything that the clip didn't have, except that the reason Woody had his diving gear was because it wasn't raining that afternoon. If it had been raining when they left home, he'd have taken the car without the equipment.
Also that he expected the second diver would panic on the way out of the cave, and was surprised that they were able to exit calmly and easily.
@@tflbo unbelievable!!!
Why don’t they use a bright colored steal cable or something as a line so the chances of it snapping are very low. it doesn’t have to be very thick just more durable and they should make the lines glow in the dark that’d be pretty neat
I just don’t think it would matter to be honest
An advanced recreational trimix class. WUUUUT ?
It’s a great class!
@@DIVETALK I was more "shocked" by the combination of recreational and advanced trimix. Trimix is not for recreational divers ...
@@TheMarcoflint Don't shoot the messenger iantd.com/index.php/en-us/iantd/intl-licensees/62-advanced-recreational-trimix-diver
@@DIVETALK oh wow. I had no idea that thing existed. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the idea 😅
@@TheMarcoflint oh it exists, and it’s a pretty awesome class
When commenting the video, I think it's better to see bigger picture of video and small window with you commenting.
Very interesting what type of lights are they battery operated or flood lights can they run out of power?
Towards the end of the dive you showed a large pipe thats pumping water from the cavern to the cave. Does that pumping of water then introduce a "delta p" vulnerability in the cavern?
I’m not sure
How can you tell if somebody is cave certified ? Dont worry they will tell you 😂😅
🤣
Sorry about my weird comments sometimes. I have seizures and sometimes I make comments and then realize it probably is weird and forget which video I made the comment on to delete it.
Do you guys ever worry about dying when you dive ? because of others like Dave Shaw 🙏🤍 2nd question What panic would come over a diver if a body pops up like say if you would of hit the line and then wow hello there is a deceased person? What training do y’all have in any training for that ? Not a diver total respect but wonder 💭
Hey have you seen the movie Sanctum? Could you do a "When did things go so wrong" or How accurate is it. It was my nightmare fuel and the reason I never wanted to even attempt cave dives...
I’m hoping to watch it this weekend and record a reaction video to be posted next week!

I am not a scuba diver (yet) let alone a cave diver, I didn't realize you don't use your hands at all.
We try not to
Love the aquaman shirt!
Thanks!
JUST KEEP SWIMMING JUST KEEP SWIMMING - DORA
I have a question
I live in pa and I’ve seen them give classes in pools. To me is weird because a pool is very very different then ocean and to me you don’t learn that way.
We always start out with pool sessions when learning to dive. For cave training we even practice a lot on land before doing skills in the water.
I'm wondering about the comments you make (here and elsewhere) about getting tangled in the guide line. It looks like the line is straight and taut (at least wherever it isn't tied off to go around a bend), so how do you get tangled in it?
You may have explained this at some point, but how would you communicate to the person in front that you need help?
It depends on the problem but typically hand signals.
Gus, is it rather easy to adjust your buoyancy on the fly?
It’s tricky at first but you get better at it over time.
@@DIVETALK Okay cool. Thanks!
who else jumped as he hit play on the first clip
I thought this whas gona be the bleu grotto in malta aldo i dont know if there is a cave for divers to go in to
What would you recommend to the tec student you videotaped whose stage was pointing upwards? Shorten the line of his bottom boltsnap, or do you have a different solution?
A combination of things but mainly the use of bungees and shortening lines are the way to go.
I know there are too many factors to give a hard number but if a room or tunnel gets silted out, how long does it take to settle?
It depends on the type of silt. It can be seconds or it can be weeks.
@@DIVETALK it's probably a factor of how much water flows through the area, correct?
Do you ever panic? 🙈 this looks scary
This was a pretty easy dive. Super short too. It’s a small cave.
If I were to visit my aunt in oscala FLORDIA would they have a dive company there. ?
There are more dive shops in Florida than aligators :D
Which agency did you do your certifications through Gus?
Can you recommend a light
Sure, what will you use it for?
Do they make a line that glows? I'm wondering if the lights could charge parts of it enough to allow you a way to find it if you lose light and line on return to exit?
They could, but they don’t. I don’t think it would help that much to be honest, because the only time where it would help is if all the flashlights in the team go bad and somehow you have to follow the line in the dark to the exit. But even in that case we do it by “Okaying the line” which doesn’t involve seeing it. It would definitely look cool though!
@@DIVETALK Thank you, that point does seem silly now since you carry 4 lights, just on you. I once used alot of glow paracord making bullwhips and the idea just popped up. Non-diver, former caver in East Tn. Love the channel, you're doing great stuff.
Why so many cards, why not just one that's updated with a new certification code each time you achieve a competency
Good stuff 💪
Thanks!
