Watch Me Cut My Hair Into a Tapered Fro

- My hair was really damaged so I cut it off.. I ended up cutting and styling it into a tapered curly fro. I LOVE IT!
A few tips:
Wash your hair and go section by section and roughly cut the bulk of your hair off. Then, wet & condition it again, apply products to make your curls pop, and then finish your cut. If you think you may want to cut some more, wait until your hair dries and shrinks... THEN cut more if you still want to. This will allow you to cut your hair into a curly style without cutting too much off on accident.

My hair was broke off just like yours. I did a big chop last night. I didnt leave it as long as yours in the fromt. I just said the heck with it and chopped it all off. I feel so relieved because it was all damaged.

Hey Nica! Thank you so much. It grew out terribly lol. I didn’t take care of it after I cut it so it got damaged again. I actually just cut my hair off again a couple of weeks ago and I filmed it. I’m editing it now and will be posting later today. Your comment came at the perfect time 😁 I’ve been procrastinating on my editing but I’m going to get it done!

The taper cut would have had more symmetry had you blow dried it and cut it straight and then wet it. Instead of pulling it out constantly it's not even poorly done

Hey Chrissy! I prefer a good ol silk bonnet, as long as it's not too tight around my head. I got one from the beauty supply that has drawstrings that I can tie up and I love that bonnet because I can make it fit perfectly. Good luck on the haircut!!

you used a lot of gel. it looks great but i'm always afraid of gel dripping into my face b/c i work out a LOT. i supposed i could wrap my hair at gym. what is your experience with sweating with this hairstyle? this is the exact cut i want, and your texture (even your front and back patterns) are EXACTLY like mine, so happy to see this video. Thanks Joni! And yes, I've seen women with the same type of cut wear it with no gel and it looks good on them, but I don't really like it on myself... I'm lazy with my hair too though. I keep it wrapped up most of the time to be honest lol
Yeah but I think the short hair should be easier because the longer your hair the more tangled it gets. I'm starting to think our hair is supposed to be kept short like a lot of African and Melanesian people, who live in more traditional societies. This pursuit for long hair even if you are natural, must still shaped by Western ideas of beauty, I think. Definitely planning on cutting mine, just got to find a style that will look good without defined curls or a twist out. Cannot be bothered with that.
I think you're right about that, because it really doesn't seem natural for our hair to get super long unless its kept in braids or dreads or something. But I highly recommend that you go ahead and cut it. I'm glad I finally did.. and I'm not letting it grow back yet. I keep cutting it... I cut a little almost every time I style it.. I think I'm gonna dye it too.. it feels good to not worry or care so much.. because if it gets damaged I'll just cut it again. lol
But yes, the short hair is way easier to wash and detangle, but when my hair was longer I could just throw it in a puff and gel my edges down and roll out... and now I can't do that. I can still throw on head wraps though. But yeah girl, if you can find a style that looks good on you without doing all the defining, then it will be super low maintenance..
