Dan, awesome content as always. I love this set. One thing to mention: (I’m not sure if someone already called this out) The Snake DOES swivel at the base as well - only it’s VERY stiff. I felt like I was going to break mine but it did finally loosen up.
My girlfriend got a huge kick out of the acid bath add-on. I swear, Skeletor had to drag Evil Lyn from it, the evil Witch hogged all of the hot water! :)
It’s a beautiful playset, very happy I decided to pick one up. Also the snake can swivel at the connection point, which allows for it to reach in front of the door.
The new cage feature is absolute genius! I wish that the classics version had this feature! And the torsos gimmick being able to snap onto the swamp water is again genius! I'm tempted to purchase it even though I no longer collect Origins . Thanks for yet another amazing video!

I managed to find this playset just recently at a Target and opened it with my son earlier today! The instructions point out where to put the bridge inside when closing it up - Put the throne in the prison cell and put the bridge on the second floor, upside down. It's takes a bit of positioning to get it just right, but it's doable. Also, the Snake has one more articulation point! At the base where it connects, it's rather tight, I assume to support the weight of the whole snake, but it *can* bite dudes who are at the Wolf Gate. In fact, not sure if this was intentional or not, but the spacing between it's fangs is the same width as your average figures' neck! Excellent video as always!
About the snake, you can also position it rotating it from the connector point all the way clockwise (looking at it from the inside of the set,) and up from the middle articulation, to kinda make it look like it's wrapped around the mountain peak, like in the cartoon.
Just opened our Snake mountain and got it set up. We love it so far. The stickers feel nice but, yeah, the art on them isn’t great. Looks okay from a distance. The giant snake was a bit of a disappointment until we got the joints loosened up. Super tight and scary to move. Now we have it wrapped around the peak so it looks great on display. Our spider doesn’t turn the wolf head but that’s okay. We love all of the little areas we can plug it and the acid pool minions onto. The trap door, cage, throne, tendril vines on the secret entrance and the other accessories are cool. We’re also having trouble storing the weapons like the shield. Other than that it’s been a huge success. My one addition I wish I could add would be to add a slime feature to the wolf head so that it can ooze onto the chained victims on the outside. Slime makes everything better!
I’ll definitely have to wait quite a while before I’m able to pick this up, Castle Grayskull is still in its box sitting at the top of the closet on our guest room…and money is extremely tight. The removable cage and the pit are definitely the best features about this play set! Saw some other reviews online and I don’t remember them mentioning that about the spider on the bottom of the snake head and what its intended use was. That’s a bit unfortunate. The quality of the plastic they’re using for many of the current toys really isn’t quite the same as it used to be 30-40 years ago. Just the way it is, I guess…
Someone else may have mentioned this by now, but there is one more peg for the spider on the inside of the mountain peak over the trapdoor. Thanks for the review! I am pleased with the new features added for the most part.
Some things could've been made with a bit more care, but all in all it's a upgrade to the vintage one. If not at least because...Skeletor has got a Throne.
It took multiple generations of release to get a cage to be able to be located directly under the trap door in a playset. If they had incorporated that into the re-release of Grayskull for the the throne room trap door that would have been fantastic. I still have my childhood Snake Mountain, but even if I was wanting to purchase this new release, I'd be looking for repro stickers to place over the ones stuck on this new release. Otherwise, it's pretty cool.
Man ole man do I love this toy! I had the vintage Snake Mountain as a kid and it was one of my first toys I can remember playing with and loving so much, so this is a huge nostalgia hit for me. But when I was little Mumm-Ra lived there, Skeletor would just visit from time to time, hahaha! I put the spider above the doorway/entrance, there's a peg for it there and I think it looks cool in that spot as a "guard" for the door
Hi Dan, actually the bottom of the snake where you attach to the playset can be rotated too. Mine was super tight as well, and I didn’t know it can be rotated untill I used a hair dryer to hit up the bottom joint.
The stickers definitely looked a rushed afterthought, more than anything. Spying Nordor in the background, Dan. What do you think are the odds of a modern update for Nordor (or Starship Eternia), Crowd funding or otherwise?
There are more spots for the spider! The mountain peak and the lower "dungeon" spot under skeletor throne. Also my spider does turn the wolf head with no problems. Maybe yours is a little warpes?
There IS ARTICULATION FROM THE BASE OF THE SNAKE! It’s a swivel but it’s just really stiff and I was scared it may crack the square connection point, but it’s pretty sturdy due to the heft of the snake itself plus that middle swivel articulation point and the head and jaw Re spider there’s at least one or two other pegs for him , and I guess wolf head turns the spider but usually the lever should be smaller than the bigger action, so I agree somewhat
Great review! Mattel did a great job. Mattel should hire you for feedback during development as many of your nitpicks were important yet easily fixable. My biggest complaint is the microphone. A modern voice modulator would have been so cool!

He visto que muchos la ponen y esta muy dura para mover de esa base y no se dan cuenta de que también tiene movimiento ahí, por lo que en total la serpiente tiene 3 puntos de articulación y no dos. 😉✌🏻⚔️🚀☠️🐍Saludos y un abrazo 🇲🇽
Great review, Dan! I’m hoping Toyhax comes through with some upgraded stickers for these playsets. As for the nitpicks, they’re all valid. I know the people designing these are big fans of the property. It’s just sad to see these things get through to the finished product.

Also, just wanted to point out for people that still have to put this together - the directions don't include the step for that little hook that plugs into the wall before you add the wolf piece.
I did actually see Snake Mountain at a local Target, so it is in stores. Though this was far away from the toy section and off in some setup near electronics for some reason.
There is more articulation in the Snake, at the base joint. It's just pretty stiff at first and you worry you'll break it. The instructions actually show it too, you're supposed to be able to move it so the Snake can eat a figure standing at the top gate.
19:51 Wow holy crap- the original sticker has actual individual teeth on the skull and I didn't realize that was a view screen of planets in outer space along the bottom. 😮 I think some people sell reproduction vintage Snake Mountain stickers, if they are out there I'm totally getting some to cover these up.
@@Rocket1377 poor quality scan or photo blown up with an "AI" filter. Photoshop has such filters since at least 15 years, but of course that's what you get when you don't have a decent file to work from. This should never have gone through QC.
A lava-cascade, like the classics version, would have been the cherry on the cake and pushed this over the top as a toy. Just a translucent plastic piece that could clip on between the two halves.
Great review as always! For me, this will be my first snake mountain, and from what I’ve seen I am super excited. I did have an original Castle grey skull. The only thing I wish they had kept from the proto type was the opening above the cage on the bone throne side. Wish they could of kept that or even put a grate above the cage on that side. I like the idea of skelator mocking his prisoners from the throne.
They should have added the microphone and speaker box on this MOTU Origins one like they had on the original Snake Mountain. It's a huge disappointment, and it makes the original SM so much better.
Great review! Sadly the new stickers look way washed out and stylized in adobe illustrator compared to the originals, and the new Grayskull stickers. I suppose you could get reproduction original stickers to cover it.

The price point is very fair and super generous by mattel considering all the extras included. So happy to see skeletor throne added. The pit feature is very nice aswell. Love all the extra well thought out extra detailings. I plan to just buy the original electronic spooky voicebox wolf seperate with its battery pack and all wired etc. So can use that with it. So almost like super upgraded snake mountain by the time I'm finished with it. Maybe an idea for everyone who plans to get this. Due to wolf head having been downgraded with no sound. 👍 😉 Really loving what mattel did with it overall tho. 😊
the stickers look like they've had the colours autocorrected and then the photoshop oil paint filter was used to smooth them- but the levels were too high so it ate the detail.
After take 2 from Amazon's preorder, I finally got this playset. It's much better than the original. Amazon was the first of my preorders to say it will ship so I cancelled the other companies. Well, my original preorder is still in the warehouse, but the replacement arrived without incident ha ha. One corner had a small crunch which is better than FedEx letting my Lady Slither get water damaged when it wasn't even raining in my area. I love the box art for this. I can't wait to see what Eternia has. I like the bridge is 1 piece. The base of the snake does rotate. It's stiff but it does. I got mine to do it. No it didn't break ha ha. I like the cage much better than the net. The best thing of the inside is the second floor. My bone throne doesn't want to sit all the way on the peg though. Toyhax has started selling custom stickers for the new vehicles, maybe a new sticker set will be made for this and make it better. I like there are several pegs around the inside for the spider to peg onto and "hang out." LOL My ladder clips in and stays. You have to make sure it snaps in. My shield always works itself out ha ha. The addition to the tunnel entrance is great.
Already have mine and it's awesome, and I am thrilled for the release of Terroar, Lord Gr'Asp, and Necro-Conda. Still praying for a 200X King Grayskull though. Revelation will never hold a boney finger to the OG King.
Hi Dan, I've been watching your videos for a few years now and I have some helpful advice. I noticed your videos aren't white-balanced correctly, I've worked in media for 20 years so thought It might be helpful to let you know. That's why you kind of look pink in this video and sometimes the white background looks yellow. It's easy to fix, you can either set your white-balance preset on your camera for the lighting you're in, for example indoor lighting, or you can manually scroll through the "kelvin" (unit of measurement for white-balance) on your camera and hold up a white sheet of paper until the white looks correct. I hope that's helpful.
One of the pool pegs could've been the female size. The ledge not being wide enough is flaw that they even mentioned in the reveal video last year and didn't do much about. Seems like the wolf's head could've been a periscope. No other reviewer I've seen mentioned the spider was supposed to turn the head. Seems like the weapons could've been different than the ones from the Skeleton Warriors set.
Personally, I prefer the look of the vintage one to the new one. But the new looks kinda cool. That skull inside made me have flasbacks of the original Snake Mountain.
I’m loving these two Origins playsets. I hope they do more at retail like for the Turtles mashup they’re doing. Did you do an Origins Wind Raider review? I see it in this video but not in the MOTU Origins reviews.

I kept the box for grayskull and snake mountain. Never had them as a kid but I have them in display in my office next to my Real Ghostbusters Firehouse. If I can find a Filmations Ghostbusters Ghost Command I’ll be real happy. This line is fantastic, just hard to find the newer waves.

This would be great with the eternia mini figures I think, but this is amazing. I don't mind the stickers so much, maybe there are some better stickers you could buy for this from Toyhax or someone like that. This is a really great looking playset though!
Maybe you can help me, i remember having a prince adam figure with his white shirt but what i did not know untill i fell over and dropped him was that the white shirt was clipped on in 2 parts, the front and the back where 2 sepwrate pieces and revealed his muscley torso. Everyone i mention this figure to never inows what im talking about and say it didnt exist but i know it did, do you have that figure by any chance?
I bought one from Target 6 days ago for $79.99. It's not in the toy aisle with the MOTU figures. It's on a shelf near the big toys like the toddler cars. Unfortunately, they only had one. The store associate said they just put that one on the shelf that day. I was just lucky I guess. Also, there's a purple 'C' clip that fell out of the box. I couldn't figure out where to put it on the playset. It's not in the instruction or picture. Any idea where it goes? Maybe it's just there to keep the playset sturdy in the box?
You might’ve figured it out by now but just in case. It plugs in above the wood flooring next to the throne. It’s where the wolf head clips into when it’s assembled
I hope Amazon brings it to Brazil. Right now, only a small toy store is getting MOTU Origins from Mattel. I asked the guy that is doing that (great chap) to ask for the Snake Montain, but let's see.

I guess there is different rules for a playset for kids today than in the 80s, probably why the stickers has changed. If not this style is more in tune with modern style of art, not so gritty as in the 80s.

The fold-out pit might also be useful for those who fantasize about Teela and Evil Lyn slime wrestling. But I digress.

There is also a third one, on the left side bottom level right under the floor piece of the second level.

Yeah, the MOTU Origins stickers are awful, especially this one. It looks like a poor quality scan of the original. I recommend Toyhax stickers.

Hi Dan, I've been watching your videos for a few years now and I have some helpful advice. I noticed your videos aren't white-balanced correctly, I've worked in media for 20 years so thought It might be helpful to let you know. That's why you kind of look pink in this video and sometimes the white background looks yellow. It's easy to fix, you can either set your white-balance preset on your camera for the lighting you're in, for example indoor lighting, or you can manually scroll through the "kelvin" (unit of measurement for white-balance) on your camera and hold up a white sheet of paper until the white looks correct. I hope that's helpful.
One of the pool pegs could've been the female size.
The ledge not being wide enough is flaw that they even mentioned in the reveal video last year and didn't do much about.
Seems like the wolf's head could've been a periscope.
No other reviewer I've seen mentioned the spider was supposed to turn the head.
Seems like the weapons could've been different than the ones from the Skeleton Warriors set.
Personally, I prefer the look of the vintage one to the new one. But the new looks kinda cool. That skull inside made me have flasbacks of the original Snake Mountain.
I always thought Snake Mountain’s slime pit was where Hordak got the idea for his slime pit.
I’m loving these two Origins playsets. I hope they do more at retail like for the Turtles mashup they’re doing.

The side-shimmie over the bridge makes it feel more like cheating-out like in a stage production, you see the figures better if they do that
Best thing about snake mountain is that it has 2000 square feet so I could totally see skeletor duplexing it for a frat
if you use scare glows boots on that skeletor it looks really cool
I kinda prefer the stickers, they look more painterly. Almost like the box illustrations.

I kept the box for grayskull and snake mountain. Never had them as a kid but I have them in display in my office next to my Real Ghostbusters Firehouse. If I can find a Filmations Ghostbusters Ghost Command I’ll be real happy. This line is fantastic, just hard to find the newer waves.

I just wish we got a little bit of deco on the snake. We just need The Fright Zone and slime pit to complete the Eternia battlefield!

This would be great with the eternia mini figures I think, but this is amazing. I don't mind the stickers so much, maybe there are some better stickers you could buy for this from Toyhax or someone like that. This is a really great looking playset though!
I positioned the spider on the inside at the top of the peak. So it can drop down and scare/attack intruders.
So I'm with ya on the nit picks. But for toy modders can't wait to see what they do with this another of potential in mods before assembly.

Maybe you can help me, i remember having a prince adam figure with his white shirt but what i did not know untill i fell over and dropped him was that the white shirt was clipped on in 2 parts, the front and the back where 2 sepwrate pieces and revealed his muscley torso. Everyone i mention this figure to never inows what im talking about and say it didnt exist but i know it did, do you have that figure by any chance?

I bought one from Target 6 days ago for $79.99. It's not in the toy aisle with the MOTU figures. It's on a shelf near the big toys like the toddler cars. Unfortunately, they only had one. The store associate said they just put that one on the shelf that day. I was just lucky I guess. Also, there's a purple 'C' clip that fell out of the box. I couldn't figure out where to put it on the playset. It's not in the instruction or picture. Any idea where it goes? Maybe it's just there to keep the playset sturdy in the box?
You might’ve figured it out by now but just in case. It plugs in above the wood flooring next to the throne. It’s where the wolf head clips into when it’s assembled

7:45 that bridge scaling can ne fixed. Just 3D printing one with a slightly wider design and taller hand rails. Then paint it.
I just received my Origins Snake Mountain. So you know what the holes are on either side of the mouth to the right of the bridge?
Would love to see one hand painted to up the detail by a high quality model painter to detail up some of the monotone colour peices

There is articulation at the base of the snake. It's just very stiff but it does move.
I wouldn't call it nitpicking, features need to work.

The spider isn’t suppose to turn the wolf head. And the snake has more articulation and works great.
Hi Pixel Dan and thank you very much for this review, the SM is excellent but I agree with you regarding the stickeys, they are of very poor quality and never compare to the vintage, but it's a great playset and I hope Mattel make the Fright Zone, rock on and blessings 🤘
I guess there is different rules for a playset for kids today than in the 80s, probably why the stickers has changed. If not this style is more in tune with modern style of art, not so gritty as in the 80s.
