Just one correction. The batteries aren’t chargeable. That USB Type C port is for emergency power incase you run of of power and can’t get back inside.
Can u install rechargeable ones in there ?
@samuelugh5729 Final(?) Edit: If not supplied in the original packaging, I seriously doubt that is possible. According to the video, they are rechargeable. After watching other reviews, I’m not sure. I haven't purchased it yet but, ANY attempt to recharge regular batteries is a fire hazard. The idea that they have incorporated sensing technology to determine the difference between battery type is (IMO) VERY unlikely. ASSUME THE WORST! Please read the labels clearly printed on battery packages. Be safe.
@thegreekgodphysique610 If “yeah baby” means: “That sounds like a feature that I’d want.” According to the video, those batteries are (though they don’t appear to be) rechargeable. So, "Yeah, baby!"
@@GLACIOUS13 Just got and installed mine tonight. The lock does not charge batteries through the usb-c port on the keypad (video is wrong). The usb-c port is there so you can provide power to the device (from a portable rechargeable battery for example) to unlock the door in the event that the AA batteries have died and you're locked out. That said, you could certainly use rechargeable AA batteries in the device, but you'd have to take them out to charge them. Not sure it would be worth the effort though considering 4 AA batteries supposedly last up to a year.
@@VR6R Ah, thank you so much for your input. Good to know. Take care!
I had the Google/Nest camera and they lasted a year or two and then it was $200 each for replacement. So I replaced them over time with the WYZE. Then my Nest door lock died and they did not offer a way to update replace it (4 years old). So that was another $350 wasted. So I tried this WYZE lock. I like it so much better and don't have to plug a controller into an outlet for it to work. IF it dies it is an inexpensive replacement. I seriously like this lock!
Thanks for a Great review of the Wyze Lock Bolt!
Thank you for all the information. I'm seriously considering purchasing this bolt lock. You're awesome.
Thanks! We really enjoyed using it. Sometimes simple is the best approach
Great review, thank you
Does the usb c port in the key pad give power to the lock portion incase the AA batteries die?
Does it autolock while open, or does it work only when the dorr is already closed?
Thanks for the video. Question, If I give 1 time code to a person, how can I know if person leaved door opened? Thank you
Good question! The lock will tell you if the lock is opened or closed, but that doesn't always mean the door is completely closed. That's where you might want a simple entry sensor on your door to help.
what happens if the batteries die and you are locked out ? Not sure Id be carrying a usb c around with me and a batterypack back up
Can you restrict specific PINs for certain days or times? Or is that type of feature only available on WiFi locks?
That might be a little too complex for this lock. You can assign different people PINs of their own or create temporary ones for folks like maintenance workers or housesitters
how did you test it before adding the batteries ? Are the batteries only for back up?
She manually moved the bolt. The batteries are NOT rechargeable. If you ignore the low battery warning and find yourself locked out you can use an external supply with a USB-C connector to give temporary power to the unit to allow you to open it.
Do you have to be in the vicinity of the lock to assign one time codes, or can this be done remotely?
Great question! And no, you can be anywhere to assign those codes, you just need the app
Since it’s Bluetooth accessible, you will need to be within 30ft to assign a new code.
The codes and finger prints are stored in the Wyze Bolt lock encrypted. Not on the cloud. Wyze has no access to these codes or fingerprints.
@@CyberMikes Just need access to the app. You do not need to be connected by bluetooth.
Can you use this without installing the touch pad?
Nope, the touchpad is the front part of the lock that holds everything in.
Zooey Deschanel wow making info videos cool
Why did you say the batteries are rechargeable when they are not?
One question. Is this waterproof?
It is! It's got an IPX5 weatherproof rating, meaning it's dust and water tight
@Safewise Thanks, appreciate the response. If this was on a garden gate. Can it be unlocked by someone on the inside? The reason I ask is, what’s to stop someone jumping the fence and unlocking the gate. Just trying to get the right solution.
@@HousewerkRecords The other side of the bolt is a turn knob (I think that's the right term). So unfortunately it would be pretty easy to flip if someone could reach that other side.
That said, the Wyze app tells you when the door has been locked or unlocked. So you'd still know if anyone was going through when you weren't home
That’s funny I’m buying it because of the “cons” not everything needs to be connected to our overlords 😅
Plus, no wifi I suspect will the extend battery life which is more important to me
Cheap and easy but not made for Canada. Three locks died. 1st one the touchscreen shorted out. 2nd one the lock would constantly beep like it was being touched. 3rd one on the garage jammed inside and bent internally. Do not recommend at all under 6 months old. only kfferes a return with a gift card as a reolacement.
