Politics aside, metal has always been about confronting the evils of the world. About grabbing the nearest torch and pushing back against the darkness. About forging strength in the fires of adversity. Throw up the horns for those who fight for their homeland, for those forced to leave their lives behind, and for the artists who give voice to their plight! 🤘

The song was inspired by the events of 2014, when Tati was 27. They were touring and wanted to return home but the conflict that started around 2013 in the Ukraine stopped them. When they did manage to get back to Donestsk, where they had lived since they were children, the band feared for Tati's safety and got her to move to a city by the Polish border.

Your interview with Tatiana is still the one I recommend the most. The atmosphere was just so relaxed and friendly, that even Tatiana, who is usually kinda on the edge in interviews, seemed to be fully relaxed. It was really sweet to see that. I really hope the boys will stay safe, as they're still in Kyiv.

Based on latest news Kyiv is relaitively safe and will be. Ukrainian counterattack pushed back russian forces so they are too far to hit the capital city with their artillery. Russian don't have enough reserve forces to continue offensive on Kyiv. They are most probably preparing to launch a second wave of their forces within few days, but it will be focused on south-east Ukraine.

    The Lyrics :( ...
What is this? What is this mess?
What's that noise? Is this a death sentence?
    Terrifying silhouettes
    Rising over the motherland
    Are those the fireworks?
    No, it's a military quirk
    Is it a mermaid singing?
    No, it's a siren screaming
Is it an angel watching over us?
    It's an air-fighter making a fuss
Is it a unicorn galloping down the street?
No, those are soldiers' boots marching to the beat
    Marching to the beat
Is it an angel watching over us?
Is it an air-fighter making a fuss?
Why is this party looking so bizarre?
A party? No, this is W.A.R
My darling, did we wake up like this?
Isolated bodies in a boudoir of helplessness
A bullet is an early bird, a midnight owl
Morning greetings of a rooster are replaced
With fire in a hole, fire in a hole
My dear, do we have to go to sleep like that?
With a soothing cocktail and the hundredth cigarette
Morning greetings of a rooster are replaced
    With fire in a hole
    Our beds are cold
    As cold as basement floor
    Our beds are cold
    As cold as basement floor
This house is not our shelter anymore
This house is not our shelter anymore
This house is not our shelter anymore
    Anymore
    Home is not a building
    Home is liberty
    A place where memories live
    In prosperity and peace
I came back home so I want my home back
I came back home so I want my home back

6:45 As you've said, music is about feeling something, it can be happiness and the will to dance, but can also be sadness, depression, anger, hatred, and the will to scream in suffering, people that listen to metal, specially 2000- and modern metal, often fall in love with harsh vocals beacause even if we want, but can't scream in real life for some reason, the feeling we get by listening to harsh vocals do the job for us, and very often makes we relief our own pain

May latest knowledge from a few weeks ago is that Tati is in the US with her husband (she was on holiday, when the invasion started), the rest of the band is in Kyiv. It is hard to imagine that Jinjer wrote this song before the Invasion, because it feels like it was in response to it. Yet it is no surprising at all, Jinjer is originally from the Donbas region and they basically became refugees after the 2014 invasion. They already had first hand experience of what they sing about here and sadly have to go through it all again (this it is even worse of course). I hope we will hear them play again one day and that they do get their Home Back.

Speaking of which, Meshuggah is definitely a band you should check out, if only to get a very unique experience, even among metal music. Thank you for this awesome reaction. First time I heard this song about a year ago it brought me to tears knowing what happened to them back in 2014. Only the second metal song to ever make me cry. First being "Tears of a Clown" by Iron Maiden, a song about the late Robin Williams.

Jinjer is always win. Every member of that band has honed their craft so well. Tati is just metal vocalist master work, which she wouldn't be limited just to metal if she didn't want, she has some of the most beautiful cleans I have ever heard.

I saw them live back in December, and this number took the house down. So much energy. And none of us knew what was coming in 2 months.
Eugene sent a video from Kyiv a few weeks back. I hope the guys are okay.
I also love the subtlety of that 7/8 bit. They do it in "Pisces," too, where they're in that angular time, but you don't notice at first because they make it feel smooth.

Your face when it changed to the "soldiers marching to the beat" echoes mine when I first saw this video. Also, what hit me was the smooth jazz with the dark lyrics (rooster calls replaced by "Fire in a hole") . Makes me shudder everytime.

The Fairy Voice Mother describes the different pitches you hear in her screams like that of a slide flute. She's manipulating the size of the space for the false fold vibrations to resonate in and it comes across to us as pitch variations. IDK if that's correct or not. Separately, I would love to see you guys do a live collab interview, just 2 experts discussing their crafts. Yours and hers are my favorite vocal reaction channels.

    • @crhu319
      @crhu319 2 роки тому

It actually was not their decision. Males 18-60 were literally ordered to stay in the country and take military training. I don't think there was an exemption even for Ukraine's best known band. Though imho they could have done more on tour to spread the awareness that the war is 8 years old not 8 weeks, and the world has really done nothing but ignore it and help escalate it.

Firstly, thank you for such a great reaction/review Elizabeth.
Luckily, Tatiana was in America when the invasion started, but Eugene, Roman and Vlad were in Kiev/Kyiv. The song was originally done to bring attention to what happened when Putin annexed the Crimea and the Donesk region where they lived in 2014, they moved to Kiev/Kyiv for safety. The last message from the men of the band was made by Eugene about a month ago, it was a brief interview with a German radio station, he did one for their UA-cam channel a few days earlier than that, in the later one he said that they were hiding in cellars for safety, but food and water was scarce, and electricity was intermittent. I really hope that they manage to come out of this alive, my thoughts are with them.

    • @Lurch685
      @Lurch685 2 роки тому

Donetsk was not “annexed.” They seceded, because the government was ousted in a coup and an American puppet was installed that they wanted nothing to do with. Crimea
is Russian, always has been, and they voted to rejoin Russia. Nothing controversial about it except that the West doesn’t LIKE it.

  • @jbp712

Any analysis and/or reaction to Jinjer is always welcome. The symbolism of this song hits extra hard today as the invasion of Ukraine carries on. Her words so poignant from 2020 as she has seen war before this ungodly mess. The masterful depiction of wartime atrocities this song illustrates, I think, is only rivaled by their call to arms in Who Is Gonna Be The One. Again, written many years ago, so not intended for this Russian invasion. However, still extremely powerful for anyone in Ukraine who has found themselves fighting to protect their land & freedoms. It’s a powerful song, boasting some of Tatiana’s lowest growls & highest screams. As well as highlighting some of the instrumentalists’ skills. Their live version is best from Aug 31, 2017. As always, great reaction & dissection on this video. Prayers For Ukraine’s People

The lowest end of this growl is a technique that's also employed by some of the really low Bass singers like Tim Faust and Geoff Castiluichi at the very bottom of their subharmonic range, something I've personally been practicing this past while since I've found that I can easily go really really low.

Seeing this made me realise that one of the things I like about reaction videos is having the ability to experience something the first time, although vicariously. Add to that the anticipation for specific parts of a song, and it elevates it so much. Last a good/skilled person to do reaction and analysis is paramount, and I like your ability to convey both emotion and very good insights.
