- How do you use the manual spot metering mode on the Olympus OM2SP?
In this video, I share how I use this to get negatives exposed as I prefer them.
Here is a link to Ansel Adams' zone system of exposure:

This is the manual for the Olympus OM2SP:

Good explanation and beautiful analog camera!
Thank you Horacio! I'm glad you liked the video and found it useful
Fantastic and concise explanation.
Thank you, you’re welcome 😀
Good video and nice photos
Ta very much 😄
I use spot metering with my Canon T-90. Just as in the Olympus OM-3 and OM-4, it allows you to take multiple spot readings. I'm not sure which other manual focus cameras have spot metering at all.
Not many have this. Some of the Contax SLRs did
Pentax Spotmatic?
Another great video - Informative and succinct as usual.
Do you remember the metering system Olympus used in the Olympus OM40 Program? I think they called it ‘ESP’ - Electro Selective Pattern metering. I wonder if that was similar to what Nikon used in their ‘FA’?
It was a similar idea, but just assessing the centre and the edge of the frame.
I'm confused as to why you'd need to measure on the grey street (for example) when you're spot metering. Using the center-weighted on auto or program, sure, point it at the pavement to get a reading, but wouldn't pointing the spot at the main subject give the correct exposure?
Not if the main subject is very pale or black. Meters are calibrated for a mid-grey subject
Look up 18% gray card. This is a card you can meter on. It's often used in the studio, but you can carry it around with you. But once you get the feel for it you can look around for something in the scene that is that value and meter on that. As Three Minute Pro says, that's the gray that meters are calibrated to.
Question still needs answering.
