  • This talk highlights the Museum of London’s collection of suffrage photographs taken by the commercial photographer Christina Broom at the height of the Votes for Women campaign. Christina Broom was one of the world’s first female press photographers. She and her husband ran a stationers’ shop at 87 Streatham Hill but, in 1903, an injury forcing Albert to retire, resulted in Christina changing career to support the family as a self-taught photographer. Operating from a new base in Fulham, her suffrage images provide a unique insight into the campaigning styles of both the militant Suffragettes and non-militant suffragists and their impact on London life between 1908 and 1913.
