Very interesting! That image near the end of Danbrook Road, where I grew up in the 1960s and 70s, is the house where my best childhood friend lived (the one further to the right of the three 'newer' ones). Do you have any details of that specific incident? Thanks

VERY WELL Compiled & Presented. I enjoyed the talk. Very informative. I'm looking for an amateur actor Norman Turner who performed with the Streatham Players in 1960's & 70's. Wondered whether he was still about as he was a good friend of mine back in our younger day. Norman was a security officer & lived in Telford Avenue.

Interesting, I had so much passion to learn before watching. I can see why there's less information on the match girls than the radium girls. It's such a shame that the information lacks the biological implications and the social outcomes to industrial disease. Does anyone have any good versions of the story they can recommend that tells it better?

Thank you so much for this video, which I have just viewed with great enjoyment. I have lived in Australia for almost 50 years but was born in 1950 in Westcote Road (opposite ‘The Thrale ‘ pub as it was always known to us and upon the corner of which still stands the existing empty site where the bomb hit in World War II) and lived there for 20 years or more. My continuous family history in the street goes back to the 1800s so it’s very interesting to see the area through the eyes of my family as they would have seen in those days. One brother still lives there in fact, so the history continues. I do have one question though-there were several mentions of the Thrale Hall hotel being a hotel up until the 1960s, but unless I’m mistaken it was still a going concern when I had my wedding night there in 1973! Many thanks again and please keep up the good work!

My family lived in Babington Rd , Streatham , (1953 - 67). I used to walk past the Swing Shop every day and look at the blues and jazz records on display. Also old guitars and post war banjos. It was a strange old row of shops - next door a kind of art deco cafe, and also Streatham green, which was never built on.(consecrated ground??) The shop was a big influence, as was Jo Ann Kelly

This was quite a treat out here in California-thank you! I had never heard of Jo Ann until I tumbled down a Memphis Minnie rabbit hole last year and read about this British blues woman who did benefits for her. Luckily for me, I thought to look Jo Ann up. That’s been a revelation for sure. One think I’ve noticed while following Jo Ann around UA-cam is how many people comment that they saw her playing up close in some local club, never a big venue. I’ve taken that to be a testament to the kind of musician she was, and it comes through in her musical legacy. BTW, David Bromberg did indeed write Try Me One More Time.

The first time I heard Jo-Ann sing was on the Anthology of British Blues Vol. 1 where she sang "I Feel So Good" and "Ain't Seen No Whiskey" back in around 1967 or 68. Those two songs totally blew me away, and I've been a fan ever since. But it wasn't until youtube came along with a vast body of her work that I really honed in on her brilliant music. What really knocked me out is she was the British Blues musicians' musician. I met Bob Andrews from Brinsley Schwartz at the New Orleans Jazzfest about 8 or 10 years ago. Bob was in New Orleans gathering new influences. But I met him in the WWOZ hospitality tent and we got to talking, and I was asking about a lot of classic British Blues musicians who never made it too much in the states. I asked him about Jo-Ann and he gave me a look like "You know about her?" And he went off on how much he loved her vocals and told some wonderful Jo-Ann stories. I have a Jo-Ann Kelly playlist in my 1blastman channel on youtube if you want to hear more from this wonderful singer. I just added this documentary to it also.

Greetings from Canada! Nice little tribute to Jo Ann who I was familiar with a bit through studying the history of British Blues. When you mentioned that live video footage of her was rare and then played what you were aware of I did a search and saw that this video from French TV just popped up up about a month ago so I figured I'd post it here for anyone who's interested. The commentary is in French though but everyone in Britain must know French right? :-) I wonder if Jo Ann knew French? Cheers! ua-cam.com/video/h9xKmJFd46o/v-deo.html
